NOT YOUR CRUSH'S CAULDRON (SUPERNATURAL SINGLES #3)

In April Asher's new Supernatural Singles novel, a witch takes a stroll on the wild-ish side, sparking an alert that saddles her with her very own Guardian Angel…who happens to be her secret crush―and new roommate.

Olive Maxwell much prefers teaching about the supernatural world to taking part in it and leaves the magical shenanigans to her two sisters―the Prima-Apparent and Bounty Hunter-In-Training. But after assigning her college students a project designed to nudge them outside their comfort zones, Olive realizes that she’s never once stepped a toe over her own…and it’s about time that changed. Her first
trip into the unknown? Moving in with her long-time crush―and friend…tattooed, motorcycle-riding, and pleasantly pierced, Baxter Donovan.

Bax Donovan, Guardian Angel not-so-extraordinaire, has acquired so many black marks on his record it looked like a scantron sheet. He’s given one last chance to keep his Guardian wings intact, a high-profile Assignment he knows all too well. Olive is usually as low-risk as it got. Hell, she wrote the safety manual. But something landed her on the Guardian Affairs radar and his guess was it had something to do with the heart-pounding stunts she’s determined to check off her Dare I Docket list.

Keeping Olive out of trouble is about to be his toughest assignment yet, and not because he’s forced to shake the dust off his feathers and embrace his inner aerialist. He’s at real risk of shattering the only Guardian Angel Code of Conduct Rule he’s yet to Don’t fall in love with your Assignment. And he isn’t so sure that’s a bad thing.

If love didn’t play by the rules, why should they?

Liza's Review:

Not Your Crush's Cauldron is the 3rd book in the Supernatural Singles series by April Asher, and it's Olive Maxwell's turn to get her happily ever after.

I loved the first two books in the series, and was so ready to finally get Olive's book, and the fact that her crush is Guardian Angel Bax Donovan, only made me more excited for this book. I enjoyed this story so much. I loved that Olive decided she needed to step outside her comfort zone along with her students and try a list of new things. As Bax has just been assigned as her Guardian Angel, he steps up and offers to help her check off all the items on her list.

I really enjoyed Not Your Crush's Cauldron. Olive has always been the sister to stand back and weight the pros and cons of every situation before jumping in. I felt like the more time she spent with Bax pushing her comfort zone, the more Olive became the woman she was meant to be. She was always such a strong woman, but seemed to be a bit in the shadow of her other two sisters. I also liked that to watch over and protect Olive, Bax also had to step outside his comfort zone.

I loved Olive and Bax together as a couple. I've always sensed their attraction to one another from the very first book. I loved their chemistry, and just found them to be the sweetest couple. I really did feel like they each became the best version of themselves the more time they were together.

I've adored each of the books in the Supernatural Singles series, and really hope we will get one more story to get Harper's book. The Maxwell triplets are characters I've come to love along with all their friends, and I know I'll be re-reading these books again and again.

RESONANCE SURGE (PSY-CHANGELING TRINITY #7)

 About RESONANCE SURGE:

Twins Pavel and Yakov Stepyrev of the StoneWater bear changeling clan have been an inseparable unit since birth, but now their lives are moving in different directions.

Pavel is in the mating dance with Arwen Mercant, the only man to ever bring him to his knees. A Psy empath, Arwen is free to feel emotion now that Silence has fallen. While he is free to love in the open now, it doesn’t come easy. Pavel walks a fine line in loving Arwen, careful not to push him too far, too fast.

Another pair of twins, Pax and Theodora Marshall, have a bond with a far darker history. A low-Gradient Psy, Theo is considered worthless by everyone but her violently powerful and loyal brother, Pax. She is the only person he trusts to investigate a hidden and terrible part of their family history—an unregistered rehabilitation Center established by their grandfather.

The Centers, places of unimaginable pain designed to psychically wipe minds, are an ugly remnant of the Psy race’s Silent past.  And now Theo must uncover the awful truth of this secret Center alongside Yakov, who certainly doesn’t trust her. Especially considering that Theo has been haunting his dreams since he was sixteen…

Yakov is the great-grandson of a foreseer and he’s already seen Theo’s death. The question is how can he stop it?

Liza's Review:

Resonance Surge is the latest release in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series by Nalini Singh. This series remains one of my favorites ever, and I loved we got more than one romance in Resonance Surge. As the parings in this story are between Psys and shifters, it was total catnip for me, since those are my favorite pairings in the series. Add in we are back with the bears, and I was totally in my happy place.

Pavel and Arwen have been in a mating dance for some time, and I've loved watching them find their way in their own time as a couple. Pavel's twin Yakov has been seeing the same woman in his dream since he was sixteen. Enter Theo Marshall, twin to Pax Marshall who is sent to discover what went on at The Centers, places that were established by their grandfather. Yakov is the one to help Theo learn more about The Centers, and about her past while working together. I liked the slow burn of their relationship. Theo had really only ever had the connection with her twin Pax for most of her life, and even that was somewhat a secret between them, so I loved seeing her come into her own the longer she was with Yakov (Yasha),

I had all the happy feels watching the 2 couples find their happily ever afters. My heart broke the more we learned about Theo's past with her grandfather, and while I liked we weren't beaten over the head with the Scarab issues, I do see Pax Marshall and his neurological issues being at the forefront of what happens next with the Scarab Queen. Resonance Surge was a really great addition to the Psy-Changeling Trinity series, and I can't wait for the next installment next year.

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh returns to a world devastated by change in her award-winning Psy-Changeling Trinity series, where two people defined by their aloneness hold the fate of the Psy in their hands…

Termed merciless by some, and a robotic sociopath by others, Payal Rao is the perfect Psy: cardinal telekinetic, CEO of a major conglomerate, beautiful—and emotionless.

But Canto is also an Anchor, part of a secretive designation whose task it is to stabilize the PsyNet. Now that critical psychic network is dying, threatening to collapse and kill the entire Psy race with it.

To save those he loves, Canto needs the help of a woman bound to him by a dark past neither has been able to forget. A woman who is the most powerful Anchor of them all: Payal Rao. Liza's Review:

Last Guard is the newest book in the popular Psy-Changeling Trinity series from Nalini Singh. In Last Guard we learn about another Psy designation, Anchors, which has never been mentioned as an important designation in past books.

The pairing of Canto Mercant and Payal Rao is a Psy-Psy paring, which is sometimes a challenging pairing for me. I honestly felt like Last Guard moved slowly for about the first half of the book. I really loved that Canto and Payal had saved each other as children, but hated they had been kept apart for much of their lives. Where Canto was welcomed back into the Mercant family and always protected, Payal was constantly challenged and threatened by her older brother and her father.

I have to say I saw so much growth of each character once they were reunited in Last Guard. I really felt they needed one another to realize their true need in both the PsyNet, and in the world itself. They seemed to complete one another in a way no one else in their lives ever had. Canto raised with love had the appearance of being soft at times, even though he truly had a will of steal. Payal was so much more than I expected when the book started. I found myself wanting to learn more and more about her, and was on pins and needles anytime she was near her father or brother. I did end up falling in love with Canto and Payal as a couple, but it took a while to get there.

The Architect continues to keep me guessing. I feel like once I find out who she really is, I'm going to be like of course she is, but at this time she is still a mystery to me, and I can't wait to see all she tries in the next Psy-Changeling Trinity book. Nalini Singh left me wanting more, and I'm already counting down until the next Psy-Changeling book is released next year.

Nikki’ Review:

Where to start with this one? First, I DNF’d this book. It was...weird. If I’m being honest, I think I would have enjoyed it if I smoked a joint or had some shrooms before reading it. It was that kind of weird. The whole white rabbit running around and other Alice in Wonderland references made me roll my eyes more than once. The heroine, Zyah, could connect with people’s thoughts when she took her shoes off and put her bare feet on the ground. You see why I think being stoned would have been beneficial? Honestly, I can’t even talk about the characters or their chemistry because I couldn’t get past this other crazy stuff. This book was nutters even for paranormal romance standards, in my opinion.

I’ve liked the other books in the series, but this one was just not my jam.

Liza’s Review:

Alpha Night is the newest addition to the amazing Psy-Changeling series from Nalini Singh. My absolute favorite pairing remains when the couple has on Psy and one Changeling. Add in the fact we had a female Alpha Changeling and a Psy Arrow, and Alpha Night was complete catnip for me!

Selenka Durev is the wolf Alpha of the BlackEdge pack. Ethan Night is an Arrow, who is damaged so he doesn’t really feel like a true Arrow. When they meet at a symposium in Selenka’s city, her wolf recognizes Ethan as her mate, and they have mating at first sight. I absolutely loved the journey Selenka and Ethan took in Alpha Night. Selenka and her wolf sense something is different about Ethan. I loved how quickly Selenka and Ethan accepted one another as mates, even as they each had much to learn about and from one another. Their courtship to HEA gave me all the happy feels.

With each new book in the series, I feel like we learn a bit more about how the Architect, Consortium, and the rapidly destabilization of the PsyNet are all intertwined. I also felt like we learned the Architect was a woman in the book..if it had been revealed before, I had missed it.

Alpha Night is another winner from Nalini Singh! The romance was filled with emotions and beauty, and there was just enough action to keep readers on the edge of their seats

Charley Davidson, a god with a penchant for maiming first and asking questions later, was going to kill Garrett. No, that wasn’t right. Charley’s husband, Reyes Farrow, also a god with a penchant for maiming first and asking questions later, would start the whole process by ripping him to shreds, then letting Charley finish him off. Gladly. And with much glee. Garrett had one job. One. Fucking. Job. Watch his best friends’ daughter, Beep, aka Elwyn Alexandra Loehr, a kid who just happened to be destined to save the world from a catastrophic demon uprising. He was supposed to guard her with his life. To keep her safe. To protect her from all the ghosts and goblins—metaphorically speaking since he didn’t have a supernatural bone in his body—hell-bent on doing her harm before she could prevent said catastrophic demon uprising. He failed. Yesterday, at exactly 3:33 p.m., the precocious five-year-old was running across a sun-drenched field of sagebrush and wild grasses when she disappeared right before his eyes. One second she was tripping over, well, absolutely nothing—so much like her mother, it startled him—and the next, she was gone. If he hadn’t been looking right at her, if his gaze hadn’t been laser-locked on the long, dark tangles cascading down her back, if she hadn’t disappeared between his strategically placed blinks, he would’ve questioned the entire event. But there was simply no doubt about it. She’d vanished into thin air. The way she disappeared would suggest a supernatural influence, especially considering the fact that she was the daughter of two gods, but her celestial parents had placed a shield over the entire area. No supernatural entity could penetrate it. Was there some loophole they’d missed? Some escape clause they’d overlooked? Garrett didn’t hesitate. He immediately called in his entire team, but even his most preternaturally enhanced members couldn’t figure out what had happened, and one of them was a bona fide angel. Well, former angel. After thirty-six hours of scouring every inch of Santa Fe and the surrounding area for even a sign of the little hellion, a storm had rolled in, and the search had to be abandoned. Garrett left his team at the compound, as well as the Loehrs, Elwyn’s grandparents, panicked and scrambling to figure out what’d happened. In the meantime, he went in search of the only woman he knew who could see past the veil of not only space, but time as well. He had one clue to go on. Elwyn’s last words before she took off across the rugged New Mexican terrain. Surely, he’d heard her wrong. He prayed he’d heard her wrong as he fought the winds and icy pelts of the desert storm, then raised a fist and pounded on the door of his ex, Marika Dubois.

Liza's Review:

I've wanted more of Elwyn Alexandra Loehr aka Beep's story from the moment I finished reading Summond to Thirteenth Grave. When I saw we would be getting a new story in the Charley Davidson world, and it would be from Garrett Swopes's point of view, I was so very excited. I wanted to learn more about Garrett, and  I knew he was protecting Beep, so I would get a much needed update on her.

The Graveyard Shift opens just as Beep has disappeared from the compound. Garrett knows he needs more help than those available at the compound and knows his son's mother Marika Dubois is just the person the help him out. Garrett and Marika have a very tumultuous relationship as Garrett is still mad about Marika getting pregnant on purpose, but he absolutely adores his son Zaire and knows he needs Marika's skills to help his search for Beep.

Garrett and Marika have much to work through as the story begins, and while I had been mad at Marika since she tricked Garrett, I found myself seeing her in a whole new light and actually loving her character. I also could see from the beginning that Garrett and Marika had real feelings for one another and their attraction to each other was off the charts hot!

As Charley and Reyes aren't on this plane, Garrett and Marika are working with Uncle Bob, Cookies, Donovan and the gang, Artemis, and the Hellhounds. I've missed these characters so much and loved getting to spend time with them again. I have to say Beep is so much like her mother, it had me laughing out loud at times. She loves coffee and horror books and has loved them since she was a 3 year old. I loved getting to see Beep as she is growing up and learning more about all her powers and how she handles her friends and family. Seriously she is Charley made over and I loved it! With any book set in the Charley Davidson world, there are demons galore and once the action starts, readers are pretty much on the edge of their seats.

The Graveyard Shift really just made me want more books in the Charley Davidson world. I loved getting this novella length story, and it totally made me remember why I've loved this series from the moment I read the very first book. I'm super excited we will get The Gravedigger's Son next year, especially since we will get Amber and Quinten's story at last!

Lilliana woke to someone tap dancing on her bladder.

Groaning, she rolled over and bumped into Azagoth. Pleasantly surprised that he was still in bed, she ignored her need to pee and curled up against him.

She’d missed this so much while she was gone.

“Good morning,” he murmured, his husky voice even more gravelly than usual.

“Morning.” She snuggled into his shoulder. “I’m surprised you’re not working.”

He yawned. “You wore me out last night.”

Smiling against his skin, she trailed her fingers along the hard ridges and deep valleys of his abs.

“I wanted to show you how grateful I was that you threw me a baby shower.” And she’d done it without getting too active. Eidolon couldn’t begrudge her one orgasm, right?

“Mmm.” He pressed a kiss into her hair. “You must have been very grateful.”

She slid her hand under the sheet and meandered her way to the curve of his hip. She might be a million months into her pregnancy, but her sex drive didn’t care in the least.

“I’m still grateful.”

He hissed as her knuckles brushed his shaft. “Not complaining.”

It truly had been sweet of him to gather together the denizens of Sheoul-gra for a big celebration of food, drink, and games in the traditions of people from the human, demon, and angelic cultures. She’d suffered two more bouts of intense nausea and some cramps, but they’d passed quickly. What hadn’t passed was Azagoth’s concern.

Which was probably why he was still in bed with her.

It was cute the way he hovered. Annoying at times, but cute.

“I just want you to know that you’re my life,” he said. “Without you, I’m a monster.”

“And what are you with me?”

He gave her a rare, boyish grin, made even more playful by his mop of bedhead. “A happy monster.”

“I’m very happy about the happy.” She rubbed her eyes and yawned.

“Things are good, Lil,” he said. “I never thought much about being a partner, let alone a parent, but I want to do these things with you.” He settled his hand on her belly and smiled with wonder. “This will be my first child born without a predetermined future. He or she can be anything. Do anything.”

“Incredible, isn’t it?” She pushed up on one elbow and leaned in to kiss his chest. She’d kissed every inch of him last night. Maybe she’d lick every inch of him this morning. “And our baby will be born to parents who love each other.”

Determined to show him how much she loved him, she kissed her way lower. Her lips whispered over his nipple, but before she could taste him, a cramp wrenched her insides. She sucked in a harsh breath, her hand going to her belly.

“What is it?” Azagoth jackknifed up, his expression dark with worry. “Is it the baby?”

Fierce heat swelled beneath the surface of her skin as her abdomen tightened.  “I think it might be Braxton Hicks,” she said between panting breaths.

“What?”

“Cara had them.” Closing her eyes to stop the room from spinning, she eased back onto her pillow. “They’re like practice contractions.”

She didn’t remember Cara complaining about being hot and sweating buckets, though. Another cramp streaked through her, and she moaned. Cara had said they were painful, as if someone were squeezing her intestines.

This was more like someone was driving a red-hot blade through them.

“You’re white as a ghost, Lilli.”

Something’s wrong.

No, nothing was wrong. She was being paranoid.

Azagoth rested his palm on her forehead, testing her temperature. “Are these Hicks things supposed to be like this?”

She heard the panic in his voice but not the words. Her ears were buzzing. Her head was pounding. And, suddenly, a wave of agony wrapped around her and squeezed so hard she screamed. Vaguely, she heard Azagoth call out her name as a warm gush spread between her thighs.

“Lilliana? Lilliana!” His voice droned in and out as the room began to tilt. There was shouting. More pain. Her thoughts fragmented.

And then, finally…nothing.

Liza's Review:

Reaper is Azagoth's full length story and brings to an end the Demonica series. While I'm sad to see the series come to an end, I have to say Larissa Ione did a great job wrapping up such an iconic series.

I loved all the moments on the page with so many of my favorite characters from the series. I had many highs and many moments of OMG while reading Reaper. I'm pretty sure I might have screamed out loud a few times while reading as well. This book is filled with action from page one and it pretty much was non-stop until the very end of the book.

I'll be honest, I missed a couple of the novellas in this series, but was able to catch up on what I'd missed pretty easily. I loved Azagoth and Lilliana as a couple, and felt like Lilliana helped Azagoth see beyond where he normally would because of her love. Add in his first child conceived in love, and I totally loved this little family.

Without giving any spoilers away, I loved the action and overall pacing of this story. There were a few threads that went back to some of the very first Demonica books. I honestly didn't see some things coming, and was absolutely shocked by some of the things that happened along the way. This was a high adrenaline read as the battles built more and more with each new chapter. I have to say I breathed a sigh of relief as we reached the end of the battle as it was so very intense.

Overall, I liked how the series ended, and felt like Ms. Ione gave her readers what they wanted. I'm excited to learn we will soon have a new series from Ms. Ione and hope we see some of my favorite characters once again in her next series.

THE DEMONICA SERIES RETURNS…

He is the Keeper of Souls. Judge, jury, and executioner. He is death personified.

He is the Grim Reaper.

A fallen angel who commands the respect of both Heaven and Hell, Azagoth has presided over his own underworld realm for thousands of years. As the overlord of evil souls, he maintains balance crucial to the existence of life on Earth and beyond. But as all the realms gear up for the prophesied End of Days, the ties that bind him to Sheoul-gra have begun to chafe.

Now, with his beloved mate and unborn child the target of an ancient enemy, Azagoth will stop at nothing to save them, even if it means breaking blood oaths and shattering age-old alliances.
