Excerpt:
Duke jogs up the stairs, looking so fine that I want to take a picture and post it on Instagram for the entire world to see. “ “You look pretty.”

My cheeks heat and I all but twist my foot around in awkward celebration. “Thanks. So do you. I mean, not pretty. Good. You look good.”

A smile pushes at the corners of his mouth, transforming his sexy good looks into positively sinful. I get so hot that I start fanning my face. “It’s a little hot this evening, isn’t it?”

“No more than usual.” He offers me his arm and I have the presence of mind to take it before we walk to his truck parked on the driveway below the porch. “It’s a lot cooler in my truck, so you shouldn’t melt on the way to Ten Blue.”

“That’s very considerate of you. I’m really excited about dinner.” I moan happily. “All the seafood.”

He doesn’t reply right away, or at all until he opens the passenger side door. Maybe the happy moan was too much? I don’t know, but I make the same noise when I eat food I like, or at least Sunny accuses me of moaning like a ghost in church. Not really sure about that analogy. Sunny’s from SoCal, so who knows really.

“I’m sure you’ll have plenty to choose from and if you don’t, we can ask.” He pauses as I climb inside and I take the opportunity to spend a great deal of time getting situated.

“Fair warning. I like to eat. I really like to eat my favorite food, so if the happy moaning bothered you, I’ll try to keep it to a three.”

His brow quirks. “Out of three?”

     I snort. “Five. Duh.”

“You really are an odd duck,” he says, but it sounds more like a compliment than an insult, so that warm feeling he’s inspired in me grows. “Anything else you need to warn me about before we go?”

I shake my head. “Not that I can think of.”

“Damn. I was kinda hoping you did.” He winks at me and shuts the door on my shocked face.

Liza's Review:

I have mad love for the Kings of Castle Beach series of books. Marquita Valentine once again gives her readers a wonderful second chance romance with Picture Perfect Summer. I've wanted to know more about Duke King from the moment we first met Duke and realized his ex-wife wasn't the reason he was heart broken. When I discovered True Prince was the reason for his heartbreak, I needed to know how they met and what caused them to be apart. Ms. Valentine gives her readers everything they could possibly want with Picture Perfect Summer.

With Part 1 we get to see how Duke and True first met and how they quickly fell in love, as in pretty much at first sight. I loved there was much humor and lightness to the beginning of their romance. Insta-love doesn't always work for me, yet with Duke and True it totally did for me. They just seemed to get each other on a level no one else really did and they could talk to each other pretty much about anything. However, the twist of Duke's soon to be ex-wife showing up with news of her pregnancy, about broke my heart as I saw True and Duke go their separate ways.

Part 2 picks up 10 years later and Duke is a single father still in Castle Beach and True comes home to get her childhood home ready to sell for her parents. True has a wonderful teaching job she loves in Arizona and her parents had followed her out there soon after she moved. Of course, True and Duke see each other again, along with his precious daughter River, who Duke has raised on his own pretty much since she was born. Sadly his ex is still there to cause trouble, and I really have to say she might be my least favorite character ever to hit the page, but I also felt like her being a part of the story helped True and Duke find their way back to each other faster. I loved that True did initially give Duke a hard time about their past, yet couldn't seemed to stay away from him or his daughter. Seeing both Duke and True admit they never stopped loving one another gave me all the happy feels! Books with kids can go really well or be distracting. River was such a fun character for me and she totally added a great dimension to the story rather than acted as a distraction. I think I fell even more in love with Duke as I watched him love and guide his daughter, yet let her be herself as well. I really felt from the beginning the Duke, True and River were a family and loved seeing them together.

Picture Perfect Summer gave me all the feels as I read it. I've loved getting to know the various members of the King family and really need to know what happened to Laird when he was lost at sea! Marquita Valentine has once again pulled me in and I can't wait to read what she gives to her readers next.

 Excerpt:

“I’d rather you drop off the face of the earth. Oh wait, you already did that… At least we can agree you are a fool.”

Guilt surges, hitting me square in the chest. “I’m guilty, but I’d like the chance to tell you my side of the story.”

Those silver orbs of hers shift away, as if the memory of what I’d done hurts too much. “I don’t see why you can’t share on the way to town instead of at dinner tomorrow.”

“Because it’s going to take a hell of a lot longer than twenty minutes, Quinn, and you already agreed. Don’t go back on your word.”

“I’m a King. We don’t play those kind of bullshit games with people.”

I stride to my car, opening the passenger side door. “Grab your keys and whatever else, and get in.”

She stands there for a moment, a proud, gorgeous vision of a woman. My mouth goes dry. She radiates power and vulnerability, a true juxtaposition.

But that’s Quinn.

That’s one of the reasons I fell in love with her. It’s also why I can’t let her have the upper hand in this. “I want to renegotiate.”

“What?” she says, clearly annoyed. “You don’t want to have dinner with me?”

“Oh, I do, but I want it to be the first date of many for the next month.”

“The next month?”

My grip tightens on the steering wheel, and I force myself to loosen it. “I want your word now, Quinn. I want you to agree to give our marriage a shot over the next thirty days. I’m all in. I want you to be, too.”

“Just like that.” She snaps her fingers.

“Absolutely.” I sneak a glance at her. She’s regarding me with anger, confusion, and another emotion that I’m certain is hope contorting her face. “I dare you to take me on.”

Her lips purse, brows rising. “I dare you to win me back. If you don’t, you’ll sign the divorce papers.”

“Challenge accepted. “At the next light, we shake hands.

Liza's Review:

Big Talking Man was such a fun and sexy book to read, yet I found it to be way more emotional than I had expected as well. I absolutely loved that Quinn and Tate had grown up together as friends first before becoming so much more years later. The fact that Tate and Barron, Quinn's older brother, were best friends made this story even more perfect. I also loved Tate and Quinn had secretly gotten married; yet most of her brothers seemed to know it while keeping it from their mother.

I loved the banter between Tate and Quinn anytime they were together. There was always an underlying spark there that you could just feel between them, and they both gave as good as they got when bickering.  I loved seeing Quinn and Tate find their way back to each other, yet wasn't prepared for many of the bumps in the road they encountered along the way. Quinn seemed way more easy going and go with the flow when we first met her in Picture Perfect Lie. I won't lie, when I found out Quinn was supposed to be with Laird on the day he disappeared, I cried a bit. I could feel Quinn's anguish as she pushed Tate away and stayed in her safe life almost as punishment for surviving.

I loved that Tate loved Quinn so much he was willing to fight to have her stay his wife. It was fun to walk down memory lane with these two and watch them build new memories along the way. I absolutely loved Tate was Quinn's assistant at the face painting booth and it made me laugh this big Hollywood star was being a lowly assistant to the woman he loved. Tate knew he had messed up big time and was going big in every way possible to try and fix the situation. I did feel like Quinn held onto her guilt for way too long without sharing with her family. The Kings are such a close-knit group, it just seemed so wrong that Quinn wouldn't have confided in one of her brothers.

As big as Tate was willing to go to make things right with Quinn, I loved Quinn was willing to go even bigger. I really felt like Quinn owed it to Tate to put herself out there in a big way and the fact that Quinn agreed and went all out made me respect her so much. Tate and Quinn just worked as a couple for me; even with all they work they had to do to make it work. Maybe that is why I ended up loving them as a couple so much.

Big Talking Man left me wanting so much more from the Kings of Castle Beach. Seriously, I can't wait for the rest of the King men to find their HEA in the future. I'm a huge fan of books in a series centering on a family, and Marquita Valentine is a master at such books. As a series purest, I tend to read books in a series in order, but can say with all honesty that Big Talking Man reads just fine as a stand-alone story.

BIG TALKING MAN COVER REVEAL

I, Quinn King, do solemnly swear that I’m not the least bit attracted to my brother’s best friend, all around pain in my tail, and sexiest man alive, Tate Prescott… anymore.
He’s a big shot actor turned director out in L.A. and spends his days sweet-talking actresses right out of their Agent Provocateur Lingerie… or so the tabloids say.
Apparently he’s run out of playmates, because Tate’s returned home under the guise of giving back to our community by filming his next blockbuster here in Castle Beach. The salon that I own is busier than ever because of it, too.
What the women around here don’t realize is that Tate is the love them and leave them type. But I haven’t forgotten and I refuse to be the girl who wastes her time on him.

Then one day on my way to work, my car breaks down and who ends up rescuing me, but Tate himself. Before I can say thanks but no thanks, he’s demanding to be repaid with a date.

Then one date turns into two, then three and…I might be addicted to his kisses, his washboard abs, and… well, you get the picture.
Now everyone thinks we’re a couple.
Worse, I think we’re a couple.

In the end, though, Tate will go back to L.A., no matter what he promises... just like he did before, because he's nothing but a big talking man.

PICTURE PERFECT LIE (KINGS OF CASTLE BEACH #1)

SBPR_BT_PPL.jpg

Picture Perfect Lie by Marquita Valentine
Publication Date: March 25th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance

All Campbell Faircloth wanted was a safe place to call home.

All Knight King wanted was to leave his hometown behind.

I never expected to end up in Castle Beach, surrounded by a family who believes that I’m not only their brother’s wife, but the mother of his infant daughter.

I can’t tell them the truth—Knight and I met only three days earlier, during a layover in Atlanta.

He was headed out to fight in a war that hardly anyone talked about anymore, and I was headed back home to a family who pretended that I didn’t exist.

He helped me with my baby.

He kept us safe while we slept.

We shared lunch and dinner… and I spilled all my secrets to him.

Then he gave me an address, along with an offer I couldn’t refuse.

*

Six months later he’s back to bury his brother, and my lie is about to be exposed.

Only Knight doesn’t say a word.

He goes along with the charade, and each day we spend together, pretending to be husband and wife, it’s getting harder and harder not to believe in our lie.

Could our picture perfect lie turn into a picture perfect forever?

Read Today!

Excerpt:

ALTHOUGH I HAD SWORN to never be a woman who needs a man—well, to never be that woman again, I find myself being led by Knight and following him like he’s leading us to the Promised Land.

“Free food, free hot shower... and my company,” he says as we walk to the USO Lounge.

“What else can you ask for during an ice storm?” On second thought, maybe he is leading me to the land of soft beds and all the food I can eat.

“There’s something I didn’t tell you,” he says, stopping short of the entrance. Unease scuttles through me.

“What’s that?” I hold Hazel closer to me, breathing in her baby scent like it’s a talisman that can protect us.

“They think we’re married.”

Liza's Review:

Fans of Marquita Valentine will quickly fall in love with Picture Perfect Lie. She once again has given her readers a family of characters they will want to more about as soon as they meet them.

Knight King is totally sigh worthy from the moment he appears on the page. Whether he is with his family, his friends, or coming to the rescue of a damsel in distress, his name is absolutely perfect for him. I loved how quickly he and Campbell connected. They started out as friends first, which I loved as Campbell hasn't had the best past where men were concerned. I also have to say with the exception of her brother, her family seemed pretty worthless on the whole. I can't say her dad was worthless, except by his lack of action. I was so glad when Campbell and Hazel were stranded in the airport they met Knight King, and in turn his family.

I fell in love with the members of the King family right along with Knight, Campbell, and Hazel. His momma Jane Ellen is the most wonderful mother and grandmother. We really only had glimpses of Knight's brothers, but I loved his twin sister Quinn every bit as much as I loved his momma. I loved that Campbell and Hazel found a really family with the King clan. Part of what I love about each and every story from Marquita Valentine is the wonderful families she writes about in each series. She writes people who seem real and makes me wish I could be friends with them.

I loved that Campbell and Knight became friends before they moved to a physical relationship. It helped that Knight was initially deployed when they first started talking, but I think Campbell needed that distance to help her be able to trust again. I loved Knight knew it was love pretty much from the beginning and that Campbell fell in love with Knight the more time they spent together. I loved the little family they became and adored that Knight looked at Hazel as his daughter from the moment he met her.

I absolutely loved Picture Perfect Lie. It is the perfect book for romance readers who love a sweet and sexy story filled with love and family. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!
