"This book has the perfect blend of small-town feels, an unputdownable mystery, and a love story that will have you cheering for the happily ever after. I loved this book!"
~Willow Aster, USA Today bestselling author

Beneath the Wreckage, an all-new moving and incredible love story from bestselling author Catherine Cowles is available now!

It was supposed to be a summer we’d never forget.
Instead, everything was stolen from me.
The best friend who was more like a sister. The innocent way I looked at life.
Leaving me with only unanswered questions.

Returning to the island is the second chance I didn’t know I needed.
And Hunter is the surprise that knocks me sideways.

There’s a hurt in him that calls to my own.
A strength I find in sharing our scars.
Igniting a spark that turns to flame.

But someone isn’t happy about the world I’m building for myself.
And nothing will stop them from tearing it all apart…

NIKKI'S REVIEW:

Contemporary/ Romantic Suspense
4 stars= A

Beneath the Wreckage

Wrecked series Book #5

Release Date: September 21, 2021

Review Copy Provided by the Publisher

This series has captured me from the first page of the first book. I’ve fallen so hard for all of the characters. I love small town romances, and the “homey” feel that comes with them. Catherine Cowles is a master at writing these. I was eager to dive into this latest instalment.

I have wanted Hunter’s book since the beginning. He’s just this great guy that you can’t help but like. He’s everyone’s friend, and an amazing brother. I wanted him to have an equally likeable heroine to make him fall to his knees. That’s where Piper comes in. From the get go these two have great banter, and a friendship quickly develops…and a whole lot of attraction. Isn’t that the best kind of blossoming romances? I think so.

Piper’s story pulled me in right away. The book starts off with a bit of a bang and a tragedy. I seriously wanted to give this girl a big squishy hug.

This book is full of all the things that I love about romance novels. It’s got a character driven plot, amazing chemistry between the hero and heroine, a healthy dose of mystery, and ALL. THE. FEELS. Ms. Cowles is a pro at bringing out every freaking emotion. Do yourself a favour and start this series at the beginning with, Reckless Memories. I mean, they could all be read as stand alone books, but I really think the connection you develop with all of the characters, and their stories, makes the journey through the series just a little bit sweeter.

PERFECT WRECKAGE BLOG TOUR

“Catherine Cowles writes characters that are real, relatable, and will have you rooting for their happily-ever-after with all your heart!"
- Mia Sheridan, New York Times bestselling author

Perfect Wreckage, an all-new, breathtakingly beautiful small-town romance from Catherine Cowles is available now!

My past taught me to play it safe.
To stay far away from handsome men who promised it all.
My life was good without them. Stable, secure, predictable.

But one kiss showed me that I’d been playing it safe for far too long.
One night, and all I wanted was more of his wildfire.
One challenge and my carefully constructed walls tumbled down.

Amidst the rubble, I realized there was more to this man than I ever dreamed.
When everything fell apart, he showed me what it meant to stay.
How to truly live.

But some demons don’t stay buried.
The past can come knocking when you least expect.
And the life he’s showing me might be shorter than either of us expected…

Excerpt:

I leaned against the tree at the edge of the beach, taking in the show. The woman seemed to be one with the water. Smooth strokes cut through the inlet’s subtle waves. They were both graceful and powerful, restrained and explosive. A juxtaposition so similar to the woman herself.

Kenna made her way towards the rocky shore. Climbing to her feet, rivulets of water traced paths down curves that even her full-coverage, black Speedo couldn’t disguise. She wrung out her hair, and the long, dark sheet sprang up in unexpected curls. They reminded me of that part of Kenna she liked to hide away from the world.

Her movements faltered, and then she swiped her towel up from the beach. “What are you doing here?”

I grinned, pushing off the tree trunk and striding towards her. “Caelyn told me this was a good spot for paddleboarding.”

Kenna mumbled something about her friend being a traitor. “I’m surprised you’re even up this early.”

I gave a little shrug. I had to be at a meeting at ten, so this was the only opportunity I’d have all day to be on the water. “Every day is different.”

“Must be nice to just flit around wherever the wind takes you.”

My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I slid it out. A familiar number, one I wished like hell I could forget, flashed across my screen along with a text.

Hey, Crosby. Can we talk? It’s important.

My face went hard as ice seemed to slide through my veins. Alicia’s gamble hadn’t paid off, and now she was trying to get her second choice back on the line. Not in this lifetime.

A cold hand grazed my forearm, yet somehow, the touch seemed to heat my skin. “Are you okay?”

I gave my head a little shake, plastering on my signature carefree smile. “Just those damn telemarketers. They never give up.”

Kenna’s hand fell away, and she took a step back. “You can just tell me to mind my own business. You don’t have to lie.”

I instantly felt the loss of her heat, the faint buzz on my skin where she’d touched me. “Fair enough.” Kenna kept her gaze locked to mine as if daring me to tell her the truth. I took the coward’s way out and changed the subject. “I like these.” I reached out and took a strand of her hair in my fingers, releasing it and letting the curl bounce.

Pink tinged her cheeks. “I prefer it straight.”

My grin grew wider. “I don’t know, Brown Eyes, I think you should let it run wild.” And what I would give to see this woman free and untamed.

Nikki's Review:

Catherine Cowles never ceases to amaze me with her phenomenal writing. She is truly one of my unicorn authors! Perfect Wreckage was everything I want in a romance. The characters were well developed and I cared about them, the plot was amazing, and the angst was enough to pull some tears from me. All

the ingredients were there.

Kenna and Crosby were wonderful together. I adored their banter. Kenna was snarky, but not mean, more witty and funny. Crosby was sweet, adventurous, smart, and sexy AF! All of these things together provided a ton of off the charts chemistry.

Both of these characters had so many layers. It was amazing to see everything peeled back, and reveal all their growth as a result. Speaking of characters...I LOVE all the players in this series. I love the small island town setting, and the closeness that this group of friends share. Ms. Cowles has the magic touch when it comes to making me really invest my heart into a series. Like all of her other books, I put Perfect Wreckage down at the end with a sense of warm and fuzzy. It’s kinda like coming home.

Perfect Wreckage is simply...perfect. I’m so excited to see where the rest of this series will take the characters, and the readers. Kenna and Crosby’s book was a heartbreaking, but uplifting, delight.

I loved him before I knew what the word meant.
From skinned knees to first dates and everything in between.
But he was never mine to love.
I settled for friendship, even though I always wanted more.

That was before.

Before he ripped my world apart and didn’t bother sticking around to help me pick up the pieces.
I knit every last shred back together all on my own.
And I’ve all but forgotten his name.

Now, he’s back, and everything is torn apart once more.
But he’s not the only one doing the tearing this time.
And there might be no stopping the person who has it out for us both.

Excerpt:

My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I stood to pull it out. My brother’s name flashed on the screen, and I winced. My finger hovered for a count of three before I hit accept. “Hey, Hunter. What’s up?”

“You need to come home.”

My blood turned to ice. “Dad?” My voice grew hoarse on the single word. Memories of the call I’d gotten from my hysterical mother, telling me that my father had suffered a stroke, flooded me.

“He’s okay. The same. But I need you to help out at the bar.”

I eased back in the chair, my gut souring. “I can float the bar some money to hire more permanent help.”

“What the fuck is wrong with you, Ford? This is your family’s legacy. The Catch has been run by a Hardy for generations. We don’t need your fancy Hollywood money, we need you. Or are you too good for your family now, too?”

I gripped the arm of my chair, the sleek metal frame biting into my palm. “You know that’s not why I left.”

Hunter blew out a long breath. “You were never going to be able to avoid this place forever. Mom and Dad miss you, and I can’t keep covering for your ass.”

“I see Mom and Dad plenty.” It was true. I regularly flew them out to LA or some other place they’d been dying to visit, but I hadn’t set foot on the island in years. Shit, it had been over a decade now, eleven years. At first, my parents hadn’t minded. They’d understood. And they’d gotten a kick out of seeing new and exciting places. But over the years, I’d seen the sadness, the disappointment.

“They need their sons. Both of us. I’ve been trying to run the bar and my construction business at the same time, and I just can’t do it anymore. They’re both suffering. It’s time for you to step up.”

A vise tightened around my rib cage. “I can’t.”

Hunter was silent for a few moments. “If you don’t come home, we’re going to have to sell.”

His words seemed to slice at my chest. I hadn’t seen the bar in what felt like forever, but somehow, the idea of losing it, letting go of something else that felt like it was a part of me, was more than I could take. “Okay.”

“Okay?” There was shock in my brother’s voice. Maybe he’d expected me to tell them to sell, but I couldn’t. Because he was right. The Catch was our family’s legacy. I wasn’t going to let them down because I couldn’t deal with the ghosts of my past.

“Yeah, okay. I need a couple of days to close up shop here and get a manager in place at my LA bars. But I’ll be there soon.”

Hunter cleared his throat. “Thanks, man.”

The words seemed to be dragged out of him. And didn’t that make me feel like an asshole? When had things gotten so strained with my brother that thanking me was akin to pulling teeth? “Thank you for all you’ve been doing. I’m sorry I haven’t been pulling my weight.”

“You covered all the medical bills, that helped a lot.”

I heard the unspoken words, “but you haven’t been here.” God, I was a selfish prick. Sure, I’d spent a month in Seattle with my parents when my dad was in the hospital and then a rehab clinic, but as soon as they’d returned to the island, I’d run straight back to LA like the coward I was. I couldn’t pull that this time. I’d just have to hope that I could get the bar back on its feet quickly.

“I won’t leave the hands-on stuff to you anymore, Hunt.” I’d get the pieces we needed in place before I came back to LA so there wasn’t such a heavy load on my brother’s shoulders.

“It’d be a nice change,” he grumbled.

Shit. I had a lot to make up for with my brother. “I’ll see you in a few days.”

“In a few days.”

Hunter hung up without a goodbye, and I let my phone clatter to my desk. A few days. Seventy-two hours to wrap up my life in LA. Four thousand, three hundred, and twenty minutes before I had to face a daily reminder of the cruelest truth. I’d killed the one person I should’ve protected above all others.

Nikki's Review:

I’m just gonna get down to business and say that I freaking LOVED this book! In the last year, Catherine Cowles, has taken a spot on my list of unicorn authors. You know, those authors that are almost mythical because everything they write is so crazy good? Unicorns!

One of the things I can expect from a book by Ms. Cowles is some good angst, and a full throttled snot and bawl. And like always, it was amazing.

This is a second chance, friends to lovers story. Bell and Ford have shared history and tragedy. They share heartbreak and loss. Ford has to earn Bell’s trust when he comes back to town after a decade long absence, and it isn’t easy on either of them. Their feelings are more than friendship now, or maybe they always were. Well, Bell definitely had those teenage love feelings for him!

This book is very character driven. Even if you didn’t have the suspense element of the story, you’d still be so lost in the people of this book. I want to know everything about them. I’m already making up stories for the secondary characters in my head. So if you read this, Catherine, I’m gonna need more books ASAP. The emotions of this book just burst off of the page. I felt very connected to Ford and Bell. Man, did I mention that I LOVED this book?

Reckless Memories has everything that I adore in a romance novel. There’s a healthy dose of angst that pulls at my heart, there’s palpable chemistry between the characters, then there’s the writing and the way everything just pulls together...it is absolutely fantastic.  Catherine Cowles has given her readers another amazing book to fall in love with.
