NOWHERE TO HIDE (HOLLYWOOD HEAT #2)

No celebrity secret stays buried for long in USA Today bestselling author Leslie A. Kelly's sexy and suspenseful Hollywood Heat series.

A cold case is suddenly too hot to handle

Police officer Rowan Winchester wants nothing to do with his family's A-list Hollywood legacy. Working with the LAPD is his way of atoning for the Winchesters' dark and secretive past. And, right now, the last thing Rowan needs is true-crime novelist Evie Fleming nosing around the most notorious deaths in Los Angeles - including the ones that haunt his own family.

To make things worse, he's torn between wanting the wickedly smart writer out of his city... and just plain wanting her.

While researching her latest book, Evie suspects that a dangerous new killer is prowling the City of Angels. Now she just has to convince the devastatingly handsome cop that she's right. Soon Evie and Rowan are working together to try to find the killer, even as their attraction ignites.

But when the killer hones in on Evie, she and Rowan realize they'll have to solve this case fast if they want to stay alive.

Romantic Suspense

Liza’s Review:

Leslie Kelly has been an auto-buy author for me since I read the very first Harlequin book by her years ago. While I adore her super sexy books, I have to say her romantic suspense books have always been my favorites. Wanting You hit on all my favorite things about a romantic suspense with the action starting on the very first page. I'm not going to lie, I wanted Rowan's story as soon as we met him in I’ll Be Watching You. I always find a favorite character when I know there is a trilogy, and usually have to wait for the third book to get that story. Was so happy Rowan's book was second in the series.

Rowan Winchester was one of the famous Winchester kids of Hollywood legend, but now is a police officer for the LAPD. When he stepped up to rescue Evie Fleming from an attack on the streets of LA, they both worked on the theory it was a random attack. However, as Evie is in Hollywood to look into many famous unsolved mysteries, the LAPD soon assigns Rowan to be her bodyguard of sorts. Let me just say the chemistry between Rowan and Evie was there pretty much from the very first. I loved seeing them move from cautious friends to lovers. It really did give me all the feels.

While the romance between them was strong, the suspense was the biggest focus of this book and I loved every single second of it. Just when I thought Ms. Kelly was going one way with the story, she totally and completely threw me off. I've been reading romantic suspense books for years, and have to say Nowhere To Hide was one of the best ones I've ever read. I honestly make it my goal to figure out all the thought process of the bad guys before the reveal, and while I did have part of my theory correct, I was completely wrong in my final guess. I love when an author pulls me so deeply into the story, I don't want the story to end.

I also can't wait to find out the final truth to the mystery surrounding the Winchester family and the death of Harry Baker. I'm impatiently awaiting the final pieces of the puzzle in this amazing series! I highly recommend Nowhere To Hide to fans of romantic suspense and have to say it is my favorite romantic suspense book I've read this year.

About Jodi:

Jodi Ellen Malpas wrote her debut series, The This Man Trilogy, in secret, worried about what people might think if they knew what her imagination was capable of. She was shocked herself. But she finally found the courage to unleash her creative streak and self-published THIS MAN – the first book of the This Man Trilogy – in October 2012. She took a chance on the story with a hero who soon became one of modern day fictions most prolific alpha male characters. Jesse Ward – also affectionately known as The Lord of The Manor, sparked incredible reactions from women across the globe and catapulted Jodi into the world of romance.

She was soon signed by Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hachette Book Group, and the third book of the trilogy, This Man Confessed, took Jodi to the top of the bestsellers lists, earning her the proud title of #1 New York Times Bestselling Author. This Man has since been voted one of the top romance novels of all time. With so much love and enthusiasm for her words, Jodi suddenly wasn’t afraid of her imagination anymore and has since let it run riot. Writing powerful love stories and creating addictive characters has become her passion—a passion she now shares with her devoted readers.

Jodi was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, England, where she lives with her real-life man, her boys, and a beagle. She is a self-professed daydreamer, a Converse and mojito addict, and has a terrible weak spot for alpha males.  Her work is now published in more than twenty-five languages across the world.

Nikki's Review:

This is the first book I’ve read by Jodi Ellen Malpas. I was excited to dive in and fall hard for her newest alpha hero. That was my hope, anyways.

Speaking of Alpha heroes...I love them. I love them a lot. But in all honesty, Theo took that to a whole other level. He had some major stalker tendencies. I liked him enough, but he shook me up a time or two with his over the top personality.

I wanted to like Izzy, I really did, but she was a ridiculous push over. I won’t give too much away, but that whole awful scene where Theo shows up her work, and charges into her supervisor’s office was enough to make me cringe. I would have walked away and never looked back. Izzy convinced herself that it was because he wants to protect her. I may have rolled my eyes at that!

I think the thing I liked best about this book was the secondary characters. I was more intrigued by them, and I hope they get a book. I would definitely read it.

While I wasn’t a huge fan of the hero and heroine in this book, I thought the writing was well done. The plot was interesting and kept me turning the pages. I just wish I was able to connect with, and understand,  Theo and Izzy’s personalities better.

THE BILLIONAIRE BACHELOR

Title:  The Billionaire Bachelor
Author: Jessica Lemmon
Series: Billionaire Bad Boys
On Sale: June 28, 2016
Publisher: Forever
Contemporary Romance

Manwhore. That's what the board of directors—and the tabloids—thinks of billionaire bachelor Reese Crane. Ordinarily he couldn't care less, but his playboy past is preventing the board from naming him CEO of Crane Hotels. Nothing—and no one—will keep him from his life's legacy. They want a settled man to lead the company? Then that's exactly what he'll give them.

Merina Van Heusen will do anything to get her parents' funky boutique hotel back—even marry cold-as-ice-but-sexy-as-hell Reese Crane. It's a simple business contract—six months of marriage, absolute secrecy, and the Van Heusen is all hers again. But when sparks fly between them, their passion quickly moves from the boardroom to the bedroom. And soon Merina is living her worst nightmare: falling in love with her husband…

Nikki’s Review:

Remember when you were a child, and you got your mitts on a tasty treat? Remember the barely restrained manner in which you opened said tasty treat? That is exactly how I feel every time I get my mitts on a, Jessica Lemmon release! The cover alone for this book reduced me to a giddy child!

Reese Crane is a businessman through and through. He doesn't have time for emotional entanglements. But there’s something that even his readily available billions can't secure for him. Now that his father is retiring, he wants the position of CEO of Crane Hotels. In order to obtain that he needs an image makeover. He needs to shed his playboy persona.

Merina Van Heusen wants nothing more than to secure her families’ legacy, The Van Heusen Hotel. But the " Sewer rat in a suit " has bought her hotel out from under her. Reese offers her an opportunity to get the hotel back; marry him for six months, help him show the Board of Directors that he's settled down and can represent his family's company...then it's all hers.

This is a modern spin on a marriage of convenience. This is a well loved trope of mine! These two think they're going to treat this arrangement as a business transaction; feelings and mushy stuff won't get in the way. Silly silly people. The heart has its own agenda!

I really liked, Merina! She has such a spunk about her. She's smart, stubborn, and has a sense of humour that constantly put a smile on my face. Reese is her exact opposite. He's all business all the time. His life is organized and spotless...at least that's what everyone believes. He's hurting. He's struggling with life changing events from his past. When, Merina comes barreling into his life, his world is knocked off its axis...in a fantastic way!

These two together are a hoot! They build a fragile friendship and reluctantly move to lovers. Sex muddles everything up, right? But lust is often stronger than the conscience. And thank goodness for that! I was biting my nails for these two to finally make the bedsprings creak! In true, Jessica Lemmon fashion, I wasn't disappointed. She writes sultry love scenes that make can make your cheeks flush. I really loved that even during intimate moments there was some humour. It was well placed. It didn't detract from the love scenes, it made those postcoital moments beautiful and funny!

Jessica Lemmon is a brilliant writer. She writes characters that I want to invest my thoughts and time in. I want to really know them. I'm always sad when I hit the last page. I feel like I have to say goodbye to friends. She also has the uncanny ability to make me laugh on one page, and then bawl on another. She does those " black scenes", the moment you think that the characters can't come back from, like a boss! Ms. Lemmon tears my damn heart to shreds and puts it back together flawlessly.

I'm excited that this is book #1 in the series. It means that I have a lot more awesomeness to look forward to! I can't wait to see, Tag Crane fall hard for his heroine. Of course, he won't go down easily, but the journey will be outstanding! I'm just going to throw out there that you should read EVERYTHING that Jessica Lemmon has written. She's that damn good! I've never walked away from one of her books feeling anything less than fantastic. Wait! That's a lie. I always walk away disappointed. Disappointed because the book is finished and I have to wait for the next one. I wonder if Ms. Lemmon would consider giving up any kind of social life or sleep to pound out more books? Just joking...kinda :)

Excerpt

The Van Heusen Hotel was the love of Merina Van Heusens life. The historical building dominated the corner of Rush and East Chicago Avenue, regal and beautiful, a living work of art.
Her parents’ hotel had once been the Bell Terrace, home away from home to celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn, Sammy Davis Jr., and more recently, Lady Gaga and the late Robin Williams. The original structure perished in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, only to be resurrected bigger, better, and more beautiful.
There was a life lesson in there.
Latte in hand, Merina breathed in the air in the lobby, a mix of vanilla and cinnamon. Faint but reminiscent of the famed dessert invented in the hotels kitchen: the snicker- doodle. On her way past Arnold, who stood checking a guest into the hotel, she snagged one of the fresh-baked cookies off a plate and winked at him
The dark-skinned older man slid her a smile and winked back. Having practically grown up here, the VH was a second home to her. Arnold had started out as a bellman and had worked here for as long she could remember. He was as good as family.
She dumped her purse in her office and finished her cookie, holding on to the latte while she meandered down the hallways, checking to make sure there were no trays outside the doors that needed collecting. At the end of the corridor on the first floor, she saw a man outside one of the rooms, drill whirring away.
“Excuse me, she called. Then had to call again to be heard over the sound. When she came into view, he paused the drilling and looked up at her.
He wore a tool belt and navy uniform, and the antique doorknob was sitting on the floor at his feet along with a small pile of sawdust.
“What are you doing?” she asked, bending to pick up the heavy brass. Her parents had done away with “real keys” the moment they took over, installing the popular keycard entry hotels now used, but the antique doorknobs remained.
“Installing the fingerprint entry. From his pocket, the uniformed man pulled out a small silver pad with a black opening, then went back to drilling.
“No, no, no. She placed the doorknob back on the ground and dusted her hand on her skirt. Were not doing any fingerprint entry. She offered a patient smile. You need to double-check your work order.
He gave her a confused look. “Ma’am? He was looking at Merina, but his voice was raised.
Merinas mother, Jolie, appeared from behind the hotel room door, her eyebrows raising into hair that used to be the same honeyed shade of blond as Merinas but now was more blond to hide the gray.
“Oh, Merina!” Her mother smiled, but her expression looked a little pained.
“Can you give me a minute with my daughter, Gary?” Like she was Garys mother, Jolie fished a five-dollar bill from her pocket and pressed it into his palm. “Go to the restaurant and have Sharon make you a caramel macchiato. You wont be sorry.
Gary frowned but took the cash. Merina shook her head as he walked away.
“Sweetheart. Jolie offered another smile. A tight- lipped one meaning there was bad news. Like when Merinas cat, Sherwood, had been hit by a car and Jolie had to break it to her. “Come in. Sit. She popped open the door and Merina entered the guest room.
White duvets and molded woodwork, modern flat-screen televisions and artwork. Red, gold, and deep orange accents added to the richness of the palette and were meant to show that a fire may have taken down the original building but couldnt keep it down.
Jolie gestured to the chair by the desk. Merina refused to sit.
“Mom. Whats going on?”
On the end of a sigh that didnt make Merina feel any better, her mother spoke.
“Several changes have been ordered for the Van Heusen in order to modernize it. Fingerprint entry is just one of them. Also, the elevators will be replaced.
“Why? Merina pictured the gold decorative doors with a Phoenix, the mythical bird that arose from the ashes of its predecessor, emblazoned on them. If there was a beating heart in the Van Heusen, it was that symbol. Her stomach turned.
Instead of answering, Jolie continued. “Then theres the carpeting. The tapestry design wont fit in with the new scheme. And probably the molding and ceiling medallions will all be replaced. She sighed again. “Its a new era.
“When did you take to day-drinking?” Merina asked, only half kidding.
Her mother laughed, but it was brief and faded almost instantly. She touched Merinas arm gently. “Sweetheart. We were going to tell you, but we wanted to make sure there really was no going back. I didnt expect the lock- smith to arrive today. Her eyes strayed to the door.
Merinas patience fizzled. Tell me what?”
Your father and I sold the Van Heusen to Alexander Crane six months ago. At the time, he had no plans on making any changes at all, but now that hes retiring, the hotel has fallen to his oldest son. Evidently, Reese had different ideas.
At that pronouncement, Jolies normally sunny attitude clouded over. Merina knew the Cranes. The Crane Hotel was the biggest corporate hotel outfit in the city, the second biggest in the nation. Alexander (better known as “Big Crane”) and his sons ran it, local celebrities of sorts. Shed also read about Big Cranes retirement and Reeses likely ascension to CEO.
But none of that mattered. There was only one newly learned fact bouncing around in her brain. You sold the Van Heusen?”
She needed that chair after all. She sank into it, mind blanking of everything except for one name: Reese Crane.
“Why didnt you tell me? Merina stood up again. She couldnt sit. She could not remain still while this was happening. Correction: This had happened. “Why didnt you talk to me first?”
You know wed never include you in our financial difficulties, Merina. Jolie clucked her tongue.
Financial difficulties?
“Bankruptcy was not an option, her mom said. “Plus, selling gave us the best of both worlds. No financial responsibility and we keep our jobs.
With Reese Crane as your boss!” Her mind spun after she said it aloud. My God. They would be answering to that arrogant, idiotic . . . “No.Merina shook her head as she strode past her mother. “This is a mistake.
And there had to be a way to undo it.
