BLOG TOUR: TRUTH IN PIECES

Cross my heart, hope to lie.

Truth in Pieces by RC Boldt is now live!

From the author of Hell Hath No Fury, RC Boldt melds sizzling romance with this unique tale of intrigue and deceit that will keep readers guessing until the very end...

Ruthless. Cunning. Deadly. That's Nico Alcanzar, Miami's biggest drug cartel leader.

And I've found myself directly in his crosshairs. He plans to use me to eliminate his number one competitor.

I become embedded in his life where he watches my every move. Then, I find myself doing the unthinkable: I fall for the glimpses of the man beneath the dark, menacing exterior.

I want him. The criminal. The murderer. The lover. The protector. The man who never asked for my heart.

The further I fall, the more ensnared I become in his tangled web of lies, masking the truth beneath.

Because when it comes to the art of deception, nothing is as it seems.

Confusion riddles me. I stare at him for a long beat before finding my words. “My

parents died in a plane crash years ago.”

“Your freshman year in college, to be exact.” His features harden. “But they weren’t

your real folks.”

Horror ekes past my defenses. “What?”

Deep brown eyes holding a slight tinge of gold assess me. “That’s enough talk for now.

Ain’t got time to waste. Need to get you outta here.”

“As I said before, no, thank you.”

His gaze turns glacial. “You don’t understand—”

“I understand just fine! You’re obviously a criminal.” I gesture between him and where

Goliath remains standing. “And I want nothing to do with any of this. I pay my taxes. I return my

damn shopping cart at the store while the other assholes leave them in the parking lot. I’m not

someone who gets involved with people like you!”

He lets my outburst settle in silence. His lips press into a thin, irritated line before he

speaks in a low, deceptively subdued voice. “Can’t tell me that fancy professor brain of yours

ain’t dyin’ of curiosity ’bout your folks. That you ain’t eager as fuck to find out if your real dad

was murdered.”

I flick my eyes to the gun holstered at his side. “How do I know you’re not lying to me?”

“I always follow through on my end.”

“Right,” I say derisively.

His expression turns ferocious. “You questionin’ my word?”

Bravely, I lift my chin while maintaining eye contact. “I’d be stupid not to.”

He stares at me for a long moment. Wordlessly, he pulls his cell phone from his pocket

and scrolls through it. When he stops, his eyes flick up to mine, eerily watchful before he turns

the screen of the phone my way.

I suck in a sharp breath at the sight of the woman pictured on the screen, shock

ricocheting inside me.

“That’s Johanna Santilla. Your mom.”

Oh, my God. OhmyGod. I’ve heard of that name. Hell, anyone who hasn’t been living

under a rock has heard of the Santilla drug cartel. They originated in Cuba and began calling

Miami home over sixty years ago.

No photos exist of Johanna Santilla—at least none that have hit the internet. Photos of

her father, Carlos Santilla, have surfaced since his death, but they’ve often been grainy and

slightly pixelated, like the ones featured on Dateline NBC and other true crime television shows.

As for Johanna, however, once she took over the cartel for her father years ago, it’s as

though all photographic traces of her were somehow wiped clean. According to rumors, she

decided to keep a low profile when word got out about the FBI poking around in her business.

With criminology being my specialty, stories such as these fuel my brain, making me analyze the

psychological reasoning these particular individuals employ. I recall learning that once Nico

Alcanzar came into power, taking over for Salvatore Vega, Santilla allegedly grew more

secretive. Authorities couldn’t gather enough substantial evidence to pin any murders on her,

and she’s remained elusive to them ever since.

My eyes lock on the photo of Johanna Santilla standing beside her father, Carlos. But

that’s not what has me struggling to draw oxygen into my lungs.

“She looks…” I’m unable to finish, so stunned.

It’s as though I’m peering into my future. It’s undeniable that we have the same dark

hair and facial features.

“That viral video put you on everybody’s radar. One look at you and nobody could deny

you weren’t the goddamn spittin’ image of her.” His eyes flick to the phone a second before the

screen times out and goes dark. “Luckily, I’m the first to track you down.”

Nikki's Review:

I should probably start this review off in a more civilized manner, but all I can think about, days after I finished reading this book, is HOLY HELL I WAS NOT expecting that twist in the story! I kinda thought I had the ending all figured out, but nope! I was like...wait. What?! And of course I’m not going to share what the twist was because that would spoil everything! You gotta read it to find out what I’m talking about.

Ok, now that those jumbled thoughts are out of my head, I can go into this review a bit more calm and collected.

At first I was a bit bothered by the way Nico spoke. I’m a bit of a grammar freak, so whenever he said things like “ain’t”, I shuddered. I got over it quickly enough because the speech was authentic to who he was. And who he was was the leader of a drug cartel. In my head I was thinking, well, he isn’t THAT bad. I mean yes, he deals in drugs, but he’s sexy AF. That’s when I fully realized that Stockholm Syndrome is real. 🤷‍♀️

Anyways, yes, he’s a bad guy, but the chemistry between Nico and Olivia is HOT! The banter was off the charts and brilliant.

This book is raw and gritty. RC Boldt never ceases to amaze me, or pull me into the world she has created. Phenomenal is the word I’ll use to describe my final thoughts. Seriously though...That twist was CRAZY!

TOO GOOD AT GOODBYES

Title: Too Good at Goodbyes

Author: RC Boldt

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: October 29, 2019

Blurb

First Top 40 hit at age seventeen? My first
tabloid breakup scandal quickly followed.

Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest
was embezzling my money.

Landed a leading role in a movie? My fiancé
called off our engagement the next day.

I might have a multi-million-dollar recording contract, a
sold-out world tour, and more money in the bank than I ever imagined, but every
time I hit a milestone in my career, my personal life suffers.

Then in steps my new bodyguard, rugged and with a past I
connect with. The closer we get, the more powerful my feelings grow,
complicating our professional relationship.

I thought Kane would be different. I hoped he’d be the one
man to stand by my side, undaunted by the fame and attention that trails
me.

The press calls me the “Ice Princess of Pop” because of my
unyielding façade throughout heartbreak and betrayal. Perhaps it’s time to show
them the real me.

With every syllable, I pour out my emotions and allow them
to puddle, forming lyrics from my soul’s breath. And with each word, my broken
heart cries out for Kane, begging him to help me break this pattern.

To help me stop being so damn good at goodbyes.

SIMONE

Present Day

The Super Bowl Halftime Performance

Hard Rock Stadium

Miami Gardens, Florida

Facing what’s estimated to be over sixty-seven thousand
people with my favorite guitar strapped snug against me, I prepare to sing my
final song.

Standing up here in front of thousands of fans is second
nature. I performed in countless dive bars before breaking onto the scene and
securing my first record deal, then moving on to sold-out world tours. Which
means I shouldn’t have sweaty palms like a preteen working up the nerve to talk
to her crush.

My heart shouldn’t be racing like a horse competing in the
Kentucky Derby.

My stomach shouldn’t churn as though I’ve eaten ceviche from
a questionable food truck.

Tremors shouldn’t affect my hands like a virgin embarking on
their deflowering.

None of this should be afflicting me. But it is.

Because of him.

Because of the current state of my heart.

But this is how I deal with heartache. With tragedy. With…life.

“This is a little different, and I hope you like it,” I rasp
into the mic. Noise from the cheering fans is deafening, and like every time I
perform, the surreal quality never quite fades.

Tonight marks the first time I’ll share a song I wrote about
someone who eviscerated my heart entirely. My other relationships—and
subsequent failures—pale in comparison.

It’s no secret that love and broken hearts inspire great
songwriting. With regard to the latter, it’s never hard to find someone
mourning an unrequited love, suffering heartache, or wishing they’d find their
own glorified everlasting love.

But have you noticed when male musicians write about it,
they’re never on the receiving end of the snide, sarcastic comments of, “Oh,
poor thing. He’s rich and famous and can’t find love. Boo-freaking-hoo.”?

Yet when I write lyrics that are the closest thing to
ripping out my heart and putting it on display for the world, I receive the
“She’s probably selfish and put her career first” or “She probably cheated, and
now she’s regretting it” or “Mm. So sad. The Ice Princess of Pop is
heartbroken.”

My response? Fuck that noise. I’m writing from my heart and
soul, regardless of how damaged they might be at any given time. And as long as
my fans continue to support me, I’m going to keep on keepin’ on.

“I’d like to dedicate this song to a special person.” I duck
my chin, willing myself to maintain composure. “It’s called ‘Embers.’”

Once I strum the first note on my guitar, everything around
me fades. My voice emerges from the shards scattered within my chest where my
working heart once was.

When I play that final chord, I see tears streaming down the
faces of the fans in the front rows. And yet again, I’m reminded of something
all too easily forgotten. That there are others who can relate to lyrics
written from my soul’s breath.

Because in heartache, we’re never truly alone.

Nikki's Review:

It’s official, RC Boldt is my unicorn author. Seriously, her writing is genius. All. The. Feels, people.

Kane is a little bit different than any other hero I’ve ever read. He’s goes through a bad break up, but he doesn’t tuck all the emotions away. He feels them, and they suck. He’s definitely more visibly vulnerable. I loved this about him. He still has that alpha thing going, but he kinda wears his heart on his sleeve.

Simone has been betrayed and mistreated by most people in her life. There’s a few people that she keeps close in her inner circle that she trusts. But trust is hard to come by for a pop star. The chemistry between Kane and Simone was palpable right from the beginning. Both of them kept a distance, but I swear, the simmering heat was just under the surface.

I really liked that these two kinda became friends before any real relationship stuff happened. I think they both needed that because of past hurts. It was fun watching them peel back the layers slowly.

I adored how Ms. Boldt included entertainment articles about Simone. It felt like I was reading a People magazine. It was so fun! The text messages between Simone and Kane were touching, and I seriously got choked up a few times. Also, drunk Kane texting is hilarious!

This book was just kinda perfect. Actually, not kinda, it WAS perfect. This author is nothing short of amazing. I devour her words and soak up all the emotions that play out on the pages of her books. I think about her characters long after I’ve finished reading, like they hold onto me or something. I’m being honest when I say that I can’t remember the last time an authors work meant so much to me. I know that sounds sappy, but it’s the truth. I love the world that she created in this book. I love the characters. I also love the painful journey they take to find their HEA. I simply, loved it all.
