Nikki’s Review:
It feels like another life when I opened up book #1 in this
series, Wicked Ties. I knew within a
few minutes that I'd found an author who could knock me off of my feet and take
my breath away. Shayla Black has been an auto-buy for me ever since. Each book
sucks me in and holds tight from start to finish. Falling in Deeper is the next
instalment to this seductively wicked series, and it didn't disappoint.
Lily Taylor ran away from her old life. She changed her name and
hoped that the demons of her past wouldn't catch up to her. Lily witnessed a
terrible tragedy when she's just a young teen. She's lived a sad life and had
to endure things that would break most adults, but she isn't quite
defeated.
Stone Sutter has made his share of mistakes in life. Lily could
be his ticket to freedom, his chance at redemption. He's a good man and exactly
what, Lily needs.
I love that Stone is sort of an anti-hero. He's done things that
put him on the other side of the law, but the core of who he is a protector. He
wants to protect, Lily from someone in her past who wants to silence her and
send her and the secrets she's holding in, to the grave. I went into this book
with a bit of trepidation. I knew, Stone was an ex-con, and I was anxious about
him not being redeemable. I was worried that he couldn't be the hero that, Lily
needed. I was wrong. He was exactly who she needed to regain her strength and
confidence as a woman. He was exactly what she needed to believe in herself. He
was the perfect man to love her.
The sexual tension in this book is off the wall. It's a slow
simmering burn that singes the pages. When you get to the moment when these two
finally come together, it's incredible. It's beautiful and it made my heart
thump. In true, Shayla Black fashion, the love scenes were hot, sweaty, and
combustible. But there was so much tenderness and raw emotion. Lily needed
that. Her heart needed to feel the emotions involved. It couldn't just be sex
for her. Stone was with her all way. He was able to master her body and her
heart. It was perfect.
One of the things that I love the most about this series is
seeing all of my favourite heroes from past books! I love me some, Jack Cole
and Hunter and Logan Edgington page time! These guys are all friends but
they're brothers too. Not necessarily by blood, but sometimes by choice. They
have each other's backs...always!
There's always a suspense theme with the Wicked Lovers series.
But there's a fantastic balance that doesn't detract from the romance aspect.
It enhances the romance actually. It draws the characters closer together. It
tests their loyalty and love. If you can survive the crap thrown at these
characters, then your love is forever. Most relationships would crack under the
circumstances of this book, but not, Stone and Lily.
You could read this book as a stand alone, though you get the
beginning foundation of, Stone and Lily's story in book #10. My recommendation
to you is to start with book #1, Wicked
Ties. It may seem daunting with 11 books in the series, but it's so worth
it. If you're looking for a series that will make you sweat in your socks, fall
in love with fictional book boyfriends, and enough suspense to make your race
heart, then read these books! Falling in
Deeper was an incredible addition to this beautifully written series!
