I’m not gonna beat around the bush here, this book was phenomenal! I mean, the first two in the series were great, but this one just had that...oomph. I think it had a lot, or everything, to do with the hero, Roman. He’s broody, a bit of an asshole, and a whole lotta sexy. I knew from the start of this series that it would take a very special heroine to bring Roman to his knees. She wouldn’t put up with his bullshit or his standoffish attitude. And that’s exactly what he needed. 

Isabel Santiago is a brilliant virologist, and she’s wonderfully sharp tongued. I loved her instantly. You could feel the heat emanating from the pages when she and Roman were sparring...or eye f**king each other. When they finally got down to hot sexy times I was over the damn moon. The sexual tension was killing me! 

Ok, I mentioned that Isabel is a virologist, and that brings me to the plot. They’re trying to save the world from a deadly virus. A little close to home right now, right? Except the virus in the book liquifies all your internal organs, and gives its victims a really nasty fever and rash. Think Ebola. I honestly didn’t have a hard time enjoying this book because of that aspect. I was able to separate what’s going on in the real world from the books fictional situation. So don’t let this aspect put you off because you’ll be missing out on all the awesomeness. 

I love the camaraderie between the team mates/family members in this series. It’s just a really comfortable feeling, and often times, humorous. I can’t wait for uber smart ass Liam to get his own book!

Fatal Deception has a perfect balance of thrilling suspense and panty melting romance. I knew Roman’s book would be spectacular, and Ms. Hunt definitely delivered!

What could be better than a hot cowboy from Texas? Not much, in my opinion. Well, maybe if that cowboy was also the Sheriff of a quaint little town, and he wears a Stetson!

Case is surly and mean when it comes to Aspen. He sees her as the person, and lawyer, who helped his ex-wife take away his little boy. Of course there are circumstances that he never knew about. Even though he has a crazy hate on for her, I couldn’t help but really like this guy. He was kinda like an onion, you had to peel back all his layers to get to the heart of him.

Aspen is trying to rebuild her life after leaving her husband, and dealing with the Sheriff who was once her childhood crush, but now hates her, is not on her list of fun things to do. Circumstances throw these two together and that’s when the sparks fly. And it wasn’t always the sexy kind. 

I loved the push and pull that Case and Aspen had going on. It kinda made my head spin, but being kept on my toes makes things so much more interesting. You could really feel the anger radiating off of Case, but there was also some strong sexual tension simmering under all the that. The author did a great job in making the emotions feel almost tangible. 

I really enjoyed watching the relationship between the hero and heroine evolve. There was so much history and hurt surrounding them, and it seemed to cling tightly. There was a ton of character growth in this book. All of their vulnerabilities were laid bare. I think at the end of the day, they were just what the other needed. Even if it took them a long time to figure it out.

This is the first book I’ve read by Jay Crownover, but it won’t be the last. I’m so excited to read the next installment in this series! Good thing I have the ARC of Unforgiven waiting for me, because patience is not one of my virtues.

When the publisher offered me this book for review, I said yes without realizing that it’s book 2 in a series. I have rules, and one of them is to never read books out of order. So, I quickly went to Amazon and grabbed the first book. And that started my love affair with April Hunt’s books. 

I love the heroine! We meet Grace Steele in the first book and it was so easy to like her. She’s all snark and sass, with a side of kick ass FBI agent. I found myself laughing whenever she was on the page. The banter between her and her male cousins was hilarious. 

Cade, the hero, is drool worthy. He’s super protective of those he loves, and that’s one of my favourite traits in a hero! This is a second chance romance, and Grace and Cade have history. Even when she’s actively trying to stay away from him, the attraction is palpable. The author did a great job of showing these characters vulnerability and hurt, even when they present a tough exterior to the world.

I love romantic suspense novels, and two of my favourite authors that write in this genre are Maya Banks and Pamela Clare. This series by April Hunt has that same “feel” that I get when reading those two authors. Ms. Hunt makes her stories uniquely hers, and her style is her own, but I just get that same thrill. Does that make sense? 

The writing was stellar and the characters were well rounded with a lot of depth to them. This book was action packed, angsty, thrilling, and all kinds of sexy. I’m definitely going to have a peek at this authors backlist!

What were you thinking about just then?” His gaze fell to her mouth. “Never mind. You don’t have to tell me. It’s written all over your face.”

She licked her lips as he stepped closer, as he backed her against the wall and bracketed her in with his hands on either side of her head. He felt bigger in this position, as if his shoulders could block out the very sun. You have to get him to back off. You’re too close. She leaned against the wall, the move arching her back just a little. Beckett’s gaze dropped to where her breasts pressed against her blouse, and he dragged in an unsteady breath. As if he was using every ounce of willpower not to touch her. He dragged his eyes up to meet hers. “You were thinking about that night.”

She could deny it, but it would be pointless. “Yeah.”

Slowly, oh so slowly, he moved one hand to sift his fingers through her hair. When she didn’t immediately answer, he leaned closer yet. “I think about it, too.” He trailed his fingers through her hair until he reached her shoulder and his thumb dipped beneath the fabric of her shirt. “All the fucking time.” He dropped his hand farther, the tips of his fingers tracing over her breast in a touch so light she was half sure she imagined it.

Might have convinced herself she imagined it if her entire body wasn’t tuned to his in that moment.

Touch me.

As if reading her thoughts, he shifted closer, his leg sliding between hers. The move forced her skirt up as she spread her legs to accommodate his thigh. Higher and higher until he was firmly pressed against her clit. It throbbed in time with her heartbeat, and it was everything she could do not to rub on his thigh like a mindless version of herself.

She felt mindless. Samara gave up her determination not to touch him. She couldn’t wrap her legs around his waist because of her damn skirt, but she ran her hands up his chest. “We can’t.”

“I know.” But he didn’t stop. He slid his hands down to her ass, urging her to grind against his thigh. Slowly, so incredibly slowly, as if he had all the time in the world. He dragged his mouth over her collarbone, the faint rasp of whiskers drawing a whimper from her lips.

Samara dug her fingers into his hair, and he went still. Waiting. She pulled him up and took his mouth the way she’d wanted to since she’d snuck out of that hotel room six months before. She flicked his tongue with hers, teasing him even as he resumed the delicious movement between them again. Yes, yes, do that, don’t stop.

Beckett let her have control for all of two seconds, and then he deepened the kiss, pressing her more firmly against the wall. He took with his mouth even as he gave with his body, hitching her higher until her toes barely touched the floor and she was completely at his mercy. Pleasure sparked through her, and she kissed him harder. It wasn’t enough, might never be enough, but she couldn’t stop.

Not when she knew that, as good as this was, what came next was even better.
