Mansplainer is the 3rd book in the Last Man Standing series from Avery Flynn. Nash Beckett is sure he has found a way to meet the terms of the bet and win Grandma Betty’s last Christmas gift. Enter Michelle “Chelle” Finch, who he plans to marry and still go on the 6 dates required to win the bet.

Nash is more than a bit of a know it all…he mansplains everything pretty much to anyone around him. Since he has always had to take care of his family thanks to his wacky parents, it isn’t something he really even realizes he is doing most of the time. When he and Chelle decide to get married to help him win the bet with his cousins, and her meet the terms of her father’s will, so she can continue to run the family’s charity foundation, they both plan for a short-term marriage in name only.

Chelle’s family is absolutely horrible and pretty much have treated her like a second class citizen her entire life. While she is a beautiful woman, she is older (42) and described as a bigger woman, and they shame her about her size and advanced age. Nash is smoking hot, and Chelle really doesn’t believe anyone would want her for herself, but after just one kiss, Nash wants to turn their in name only marriage to more. 

I loved the chemistry between Chelle and Nash so much! It was smoking hot, and it really only made their relationship more real. They had already become real friends with all they shared about their lives. I did think Nash was very slow on the uptake on not mansplaining everything and believing he was always right in actions he took. I liked that Chelle had no issue telling him how much of an ass he was at times when he mansplained too much.

I really enjoyed Mansplainer overall. I had an issue with Chelle being described as older and big as a bad thing. I was really glad she found Nash who saw the beauty in her when others were blind to her beauty. I loved the Last Man Standing series of stories and really hoped we get more books with the Beckett family in the future.

Tracy Wolff and Avery Flynn have teamed up to give readers a laugh out loud sexy contemporary romance that had me crying at times I was laughing so much. There were plenty of drama along the way to keep your emotions jumping as well.

I really loved Mallory pretty much from page one and have to say I also had some mad love for grumpy neighbor Nick just as quickly. Mallory is pretty much at her lowest low as Back in the Burbs begins. She recently caught her husband cheating on her, she lost her job in his law firm, and had to move back in with her parents. When she learns her Aunt Maggie left her home to her, Mallory has big goals, and isn't prepared when she arrives, as the home is in major need of repairs, clean out, and HOA violations seem to be never ending.

Mallory is starting over when she moves to Huckleberry Hills. She needs to find a job and then a contractor to help get her new home back in shape. As no one in her family had been in her aunt's home in years, she wasn't prepared to the hoarding her aunt had in her home. That part of the story pretty much broke my heart. Her parents were aware that Maggie had hoarding tendencies, yet hadn't checked on her at all. While Mallory had every right to be completely overwhelmed, I love that as she cleaned out her aunt's home, she had so many fond memories of her aunt as she cleaned out each new room.

Nick aka grumpy neighbor actually ended up being one of my favorite characters in this book. I loved that he was actually friends with Maggie and did all in his power to help her out and take care of her when she was his neighbor. I really loved that Nick and Mallory had some pretty great chemistry from the very first time they met, even if they didn't start off as friends. Part of that was Mallory having trust issues due to how her ex treated her. I really liked that Nick was there to help Mallory along the way with the house, finding her an attorney to battle her ex, and even finding her a perfect job. When Nick and Mallory finally made love for the first time, I had all the happy feels. Their differences and strengths made them such a great couple. My only real problem with this story was Malloy comparing Nick to her ex for way too long. Nick really did go out of his way to take things slow so Mallory would feel comfortable and help her in any way needed. As he was absolutely nothing like her ex, other than also being an attorney, Mallory really made me mad when she compared Nick to her asshat ex. 

Back in the Burbs kept me glued to the page pretty much from the moment I picked it up. I don't know about everyone else, but my reading has taken a huge hit since the start of the pandemic. The fact that I pretty much read this book in one day was huge for me, and a testament to this wonderful story. Thank you to both Tracy Wolff and Avery Flynn for giving me the wonderful rom-con in Back in the Burbs!

When I see a book is written by Avery Flynn, I know I'm in for lots of laughter, sexy times, usually a few tears, and I love every single moment. When Hadley Donavon needs a pretend date for her sister's wedding, she asks her best friend Web Holt. Everything is perfect until she discovers his "evil" twin Will in his place. Will and Hadley have been at odds pretty much from the moment they met, as Will believes Hadley is only friends with his brother to try and get to the Holt fortune.

I adored both Hadley and Will so much from the very first. They had such amazing chemistry and I loved watching them go from adversaries to lovers before either really saw it coming. I really didn't love Will when we first met him. He was so suspicious of Hadley for no reason other than his ex had only been in a relationship with him to increase her social standing and finances. I really felt sorry for him at first, and hated he seemed to paint all women with that jaded brush. Hadley had her own problems with being home. She had painted her life in Harbor City as perfection, only to be fired right before her sister's wedding with no prospects of a job when she returns. 

The humor and the chemistry between Hadley and Will kept me reading late into the night as I couldn't put the book down. I saw so much growth with both characters, especially in how they dealt with one another and especially their families. I loved that Web put the mirror up to Will's face and helped Will to finally realize why he gave Hadley so much crap from day one. I also loved how Hadley finally had to come clean with not only her sister but her entire family about what was really going on in her life in Harbor City. I have to say I adored her family so much and they had me laughing out loud many times as I read this story. This book was so very family-centric and that is something I've come to expect and love from books by Avery Flynn. 

The Wedding Date Disaster was such a fun, sweet, and sexy romance. Fans of romantic comedies will find this book to be like catnip and much like me, want more from all the characters. The Wedding Date Disaster was everything I was looking for in a romantic comedy and just what I needed to read at this time.

Seriously I was super lucky to read so many amazing books this year, and it was really hard to narrow down my favorites from the 150 books I read this year. These books are in no particular order, and I loved each and every book.

Easy Ride by Breezie Bennett

Breezie Bennett is a new author who has hooked me as a reader from her very first book. Lots of sexy football players, smart women, laughter and tears in each book.

Tomboy by Avery Flynn

We finally got Fallon Hartigan’s story and it was totally worth the wait. She is probably my favorite character every written by Avery Flynn. I own this book in print, digital and audio I love it so much!

Old Dog New Tricks by Roxanne St. Claire

We waited forever for the Dogfather to get his books after he took care of helping his adult children each find their mates. I knew it would be a tough thing for Daniel to love again after his true love Annie had passed away. This story was full of love, along with some laughter and tears. Loved every moment of this story!

Total Surrender/Absolute Pleasure by Erika Wilde

I love the grown up fairy tale series of books from Erika Wilde. Seriously I couldn’t pick which one was my favorite so far, so I had to list them both. Super sexy stories with a bit of intrigue along the way. Highly recommend this series of books!

As Long As I Have You by Bella Andre

We finally got to meet the London part of the Sullivan clan, and I fell just as in love with this part of the family as all the other members of the family. The Sullivan series of books remains some of my favorite stories I’ve ever read.

Dare Me Tonight/More Than Sexy by Carly Phillips

I love the Dare family so much!!! With Dare Me Tonight we got the baby of both family’s story, Sienna Dare. I’ve wanted her story from the beginning and loved seeing her meet her match in Ethan Knight. More Than Sexy wrapped up our Florida Dare siblings with Jason Dare’s story and introduced us to the best friends in his life who are just like brothers to him. Loved both stories so much, I’ve read them each multiple times this year.

Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh

The newest Psy-Changeling book took us back to DarkRiver/SnowDancer territory and I was so freaking happy to be back with so many of my favorite characters. Memory and Alexei’s story was a wonderful addition to the series and I felt like I was coming home with this story.

Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs

Honestly one of my favorites in the Mercy Thompson series. I love that Mercy seems to become stronger with each new book. I also really loved the time we got with Mercy and Adam together and seeing Mercy and Mary Jo finally find some peace.

Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev

Seriously this was such an amazing contemporary retelling of Pride & Prejudice. Sonali Dev pulled me in from the very first page and I loved the entire ride. I fell in love with the entire Raje family and can’t wait to read more of their stories in the future.

Black List by Lynn Raye Harirs

The first book with Ian Black’s Bandits, and I totally loved this first book. Loved Jace and Maddy, and especially the times we got to spend with Ian Black. These books have every bit as much suspense as the Hostile Operations Team books, and I can’t wait for future stories.

“So why are you on Bramble?”

She took another small bite from her roll before answering. “My best friend is blackmailing me, and my dad wants a SAG card.”

That was definitely not the answer he’d been expecting. “And I thought my reasoning was twisted.”

“I’m sure it all makes sense in Gemma’s head,” Zara said. “She thinks I work too much and need to loosen up. She’ll let me be her plus-one to go meet a collector if I do the Bramble five dates thing. And my dad? Well, let’s just say he’s never met an unlikely plan he didn’t think he could pull off.”

All the possibilities this created sped around inside his head until one broke free like a perfect fast break late in the third period when the game was on the line. All he had to do was put the biscuit in the net.

“So neither of us really wants to be here,” he said. “We’re each other’s solution to getting back to our regular lives as soon as possible.”

It was fucking perfect. Petrov’s job with the team would be safe for another season—well, as safe as he could be, considering he didn’t have a no-trade deal in his contract.

Zara, though, didn’t seem to be seeing the genius of it, going by the suspicious look she gave him as she took another bite of her roll. Finally, she used her napkin to wipe the corners of her mouth, straightened her spine, and looked him dead in the eye. “We’d have to have ground rules.”

“Sure. Whatever you want.” Ice Knights season tickets? He’d make that happen. A photo op with her dad’s favorite player? Done. Whatever it took, he’d do it.

“This isn’t a real or fake relationship, it’s a temporary alliance,” she said without an ounce of humor in her tone. “I’m not pretending to be your girlfriend or the random chick you’re banging this week.”

“Agreed.” All of that sounded like it would cause more problems than it would solve anyway. “I’ve got a condition. Dressing up is not required. I’m not putting on a suit.”

The best thing about the off-season was not having to strangle himself with a tie multiple times a week just for a bus ride to the rink or a plane trip to another city. Coach Peppers was old-fashioned about doing things the original way.

“Fine.” Zara held up three fingers. “The third stipulation is that I’m not putting on a good attitude. If it’s been a crappy day, I don’t have to pretend to be a manic pixie dream girl.”

He snorted. “No one who’s met you would believe that. You’re a little salty.” That was putting it mildly based on her attitude when she showed up for their date.

“I have my reasons.” She added another finger, so she was holding up four. “Oh, and no making love. Sex?” She paused and looked him over quickly. “Maybe. Emotional, heartfelt, staring-each-other-in-the-eyes making love? Not gonna happen. No offense, but you’re not my type.”

What the hell? Not her type? He was a professional athlete making millions. He’d been led to believe he was everyone’s type.

“Not a problem, since I don’t think we could see eye to eye while having sex unless you magically grew a foot,” he said.

“You’re not into being creative?” Zara rolled her eyes. “I guess that’s expected for someone who has probably had women throwing themselves at him for years. You haven’t ever had to work for it.”

Caleb had no idea what to say to that. He’d been punched square in the face by the most feared goons in hockey and it hadn’t knocked him as senseless as this little five-foot-nothing of a snarky woman had done with a few choice words.

I love a fun and sexy hockey romance, and Avery Flynn nailed it with Parental Guidance. I have to say I laughed out loud on more than one occasion and fell absolutely in love with Caleb and Zara as a couple.

So I'll say right now I didn't think it was fair that Caleb took all the grief for the video with his playmates being jerks about puck bunnies. He never said a word during their tirade, and yes that was a mistake someone who wants to be a leader shouldn't make, but still felt others should have been on the punishment end. That being said, the fact that his mom and Zara's dad were put in charge of picking out their dates on their dating app had me laughing so hard. Zara's profile post alone had me crying I was laughing so hard.

Caleb and Zara were so very different, yet I felt like they pretty much connected from the first time they met. I loved all the rules they set for their arrangement in the beginning and loved even more seeing them not breaking all the rules, but really working hard to never meet a couple. It was fun for me to see them begin to share more with one another the more time they spent together, even to the point they each seemed to make of reasons to see each other or chat on the phone either via text or facetime. There really was a sweetness about them as a couple I didn't expect, considering their chemistry was off the charts hot.

Avery Flynn once again delivered a strong, funny, sexy, and emotional romance that had me wanting more. I first fell in love with her voice with the Harbor City books, then the Hartigans, and now I need all the Ice Knights books now. I highly recommend Parental Guidance and suggest all of her back list as well.
