Faerie Fate 4/9/10 Release!!!

Faerie Fate is the debut novel by Silver James to be released on April 9, 2010. I ordered my paperback copy from Wild Rose Press 2 weeks ago and received my copy last week. All digital copies will be available for download starting tomorrow. I posted my thoughts when I won the ARC from Silver's blog back in November, but wanted to make sure everyone marked their calendars for the actual release date of 4/9/10. From the back cover.~

If you could go back, do it over again, would you take a chance to find true love? What if you had no choice?

On her fiftieth birthday, the faerie send Rebecca Miller a thousand years into the past to find her happily ever after with Ciaran MacDermot, Chief of Clann MacDermot, the last Fenian warrior in his line. In the twenty-first century, Becca is old enough to be Ciaran’s mother. In the tenth, she’s young enough to be his bride.

The fae forgot to mention one slight stipulation. The lovers must be bound before the Festival of Light, or Becca will forever disappear into Tir Nan Óg , the faerie Land of the Ever Young. Will they discover the binding words before time runs out and they’re torn apart forever? Or will their eternal love defeat their Faerie Fate?

When Becca goes to bed on her fiftieth birthday, she wakes up in a different century and twenty-five years younger. Ciaran and Becca share a link to each other where they can feel each other’s pain and location, so Ciaran knows where to find Becca. Ciaran must seek help from Niall and his wife Siobhan to help heal Becca, who they find close to death. Neither Becca or Ciaran realize why they are connected or they must be bound before the Festival of Light.

I loved Faerie Fate! I loved the main characters Becca and Ciaran, and the supporting characters of Niall, Siobhan and Riordan just as much. I especially love Riordan and can't wait to read more about him in his book Faerie Fool. Silver gives the reader very strong characters and a strong story filled with the fae, a sexy & spicy romance, a touch of mystery and a bit of time travel. The second book in this amazing series, Faerie Fire is scheduled for release on September 17, 2010 and Silver is currently finishing writing Faerie Fool.

Faerie Fate

Faerie Fate is the debut novel by Silver James. I had Silver email me the back cover blurb, which can also be found on her upcoming releases page on her website www.silverjames.com.

Vampire Academy

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead is the first book in her Vampire Academy series. From the back cover.~

Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies...

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess:a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Stigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires-the ones who never die.

The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Stigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them.

After two years of illicit freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking Academy hearts.

Fear made Lissa and Rose run away from St. Vladimir's - inside the Academy's iron gates, their world is even more fraught with danger. Here, the cutthroat ranks of the Moroi perform unspeakable rituals, and their secretive nature and love of the night creates and enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever...

Vampire Academy is a wonderful paranormal young adult novel. Richelle Mead gives the reader a wonderfully complex story set in the world of vampires.  I loved the true-to-life friendship between Rose and Lissa. Both girls will do just about anything for each other. Even though they are vampires, they still have the same concerns as any other teenage girl, the right clothes, fitting in, and guys. There was also a bit of mystery thrown into the story to keep the reader on their toes. I liked that about this book and figured out much of the mystery before the end of the story, although I didn't figure out everything.

This was my first book by Richelle Mead, but I really enjoyed the story and plan to read many more books by her in the future.  There are currently 2 more books in her Vampire Academy series. I also recently found out about her Georgina Kincaid series that I can't wait to read.

Romeo, Romeo

Romeo, Romeo by Robin Kaye is the first in a series of books about the Ronaldi family. From the back cover.~

Rosalie Ronaldi doesn't have a domestic bone in her body...

All she cares about is her career, so she survives on take-out and dirty martinis, keeps her shoes under the dining room table, her bras on the shower curtain rod, and her clothes on the couch...

Nick Romeo is every woman's fantasy-tall, dark, handsome, rich, really good in bed, AND he loves to cook and clean...

He says he wants an independent woman, but when he meets Rosalie, all he wants to do is take care of her. Before too long, he's cleaned up her apartment, stocked her refrigerator, and adopted her dog...

So what's the problem? Just a little matter of mistaken identity, corporate theft, a hidden past in juvenile detention and one big nosy Italian family too close for comfort...

Romeo, Romeo was laugh out loud funny and very sexy. Robin Kaye wrote an amazing debut novel that kept me reading late into the night. I couldn't put this book down and loved the relationship between Rosalie and Nick. Romeo, Romeo is a fun fast-paced romance that is filled with humor and passion. I loved this debut book and look forward to reading more books by Robin Kaye in the future. The next book in the series, Too Hot to Handle, is currently out and sitting in my ever growing to be read mountain.

The Magic Knot

The Magic Knot is a magical book by Helen Scott Taylor. From the back cover.~

He's A Biker With An Attitude

What woman wouldn't be attracted to Niall O'Connor's soft Irish brogue and dark good looks? But Rosenwyn Tremain must find her father, and she isn't going to let a sexy, stubborn Irishman and his motorcycle distract her. Rose's intuition tells her he's hiding something, a secret even the cards cannot divine. Her tarot deck always reads true, but how can one man represent both Justice and Betrayal?

She's A Woman On A Mission

Magic. Niall's body tingles with it when he finds the woman snooping in his room. Rosenwyn might believe she's a no-nonsense accountant, but her essence whispers to him of ancient fairy magic that enslaves even as it seduces. Her heritage could endanger those he'd die to protect, but her powers and her passion, if properly awakened, might be the only thing that can save both their families, vanquish a fairy queen bent on revenge, and fulfill a prophecy that will bind their hearts together with...The Magic Knot

I really enjoyed The Magic Knot. It was filled with magical creatures that most people only believe to be fiction. I loved reading about fairies, leprechauns, and other magical beings. Rose and Niall are attracted to one another from almost the first moment they see each other. But Niall is so worried about protecting his family that he wants nothing to do with Rose, and Rose isn't sure she can trust Niall because of her tarot card reading about him.

There was both romance and adventure in The Magic Knot. I really liked this first book by Helen Scott Taylor and look forward to more books from her in the future.

Knit One, Kill Two

Knit One, Kill Two is by Maggie Sefton, a new-to-me author. Knit One, Kill Two is the first book in a new series. From the back cover.~

Despite the fact that her aunt was an expert knitter, Kelly Flynn never picked up a pair of knitting needles she liked--until she strolled into House of Lambspun. Now, in the first in a brand-new series, she learns how to knit one, purl two, and untangle the mystery behind her aunt's murder...

Kelly Flynn would be the first to admit her life in Washington, D.C., is a little on the dull side. But coming back to Colorado for her beloved aunt's funeral wasn't the kind of excitement she was seeking. The police are convinced that her Aunt Helen's death was the result of a burglary gone bad, but for the accountant in Kelly, things just aren't adding up. After all, why would her sensible, sixty-eight-year-old aunt borrow $20,000 just days before her death? With the help of the knitting regulars at House of Lambspun, Kelly's about to get a few lessons in cranking out a sumptuously colored scarf--and in luring a killer out of hiding...

I stumbled upon this book while looking for a new book when on a business trip last week. I love reading mysteries and very much enjoyed Knit One, Kill Two. Sefton wrote a pretty fast-paced story that had me guessing a few times as to who was the bad guy. I really liked that the mystery wasn't really a forensic book. I enjoy reading those types of mysteries, but this was much lighter and enjoyable. I also really love that the book includes a recipe and knitting patterns. I have always wanted to learn to knit and think I might even give it a try now.

The relationship between Kelly and her new knitting friends was so realistic. I loved that Sefton portrayed each of the women so differently, but still showed how they could become friends. The friends became amateur detectives to help solve the murder of Kelly's aunt. I enjoyed the first book in this series, and look forward to reading more books by Sefton in the future.

Just the Sexiest Man Alive

Just the Sexiest Man Alive is the first book by Julie James. From the back cover.~

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan. In the courtroom, she never lets the opposition see her sweat. In her personal life, she never lets any man rattle her-not even her cheating ex-fiance. So when she's assigned to coach People's "Sexiest Man Alive" for his role in his next big legal thriller, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob's charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews.

Jason Andrews is used to having women fall at his feet. When Taylor Donovan give him the cold shoulder, he's thrown for a loop. She's unlike any other woman he's ever met: uninterested in the limelight, seemingly immune to his advances, and shockingly capable of saying no to him. She's the perfect challenge. And the more she rejects him, the more he begins to realize she may just be his perfect match...

I loved Just the Sexiest Man Alive. It was a fun and sexy read with lots of sass and sexual tension. Taylor only thinks about her career and Jason believes that everything he wants in life will always fall into his lap. Put the two together and you get an explosive combination. Taylor is the first person ever not to give Jason what he wants when he wants it. She also won't put up with any of his crap when she feels that he is disrespectful to her. Jason is intrigued by Taylor and really doesn't know how to act around her. It was fun watching them fight their feelings for one another as they fell in love.

James writes a really fun and sexy first read and I look forward to many more books from her in the future.

Regina's Closet

Regina's Closet:Finding my Grandmother's Secret Journal is by Diana M. Raab. From the book flap~

When glamorous Regina inexplicably ends her own life, her ten-year-old granddaughter, Diana, is devastated by the loss, and haunted by questions she wishes sh could have asked her grandmother. Diana's discovery of Regina's secret journal three decades later gives her a window into the unknown events of Regina's tumultuous life. Diana looks to the journals for answers, trying to reconnect with her beloved grandmother.

Through Regina's words, Diana learns of the privations of World War I, the heartbreak of being orphaned, and the pandemonium of events during her immigrations from Poland to Vienna to Paris and finally to the United States.

Diana draws strength from her grandmother's example, which sustains her when she receives some of her own shattering news. To share her personal story, Diana must first tell Regina's. The end result is a unique braided narrative, with excerpts of Regina's diary interwoven with Diana's own life experiences, which creates a touching portrait of a relationship between a granddaughter and her grandmother.

Raab tells an emotional story that draws the reader in from the very first page. Regina's story showed what an amazing woman she was, especially after the hell she had lived through. Regina's story made me think about my mother who died when I was only twelve-years-old. My mother also suffered from depression, but unlike Regina, it was not the cause of her death. I did recognize many of Regina's symptoms of depression in the memories of my mother. So far, I've managed to keep depression at bay, but I do believe that it is a hereditary disease, that can strike at any time. Reading about Regina and Diana's relationship also made me very grateful for the many years I had with both of my grandmothers, one of which I still have in my life today.

I enjoyed Regina's Closet very much and really liked the fact that the story made me think about so many other things in my life and the life of others. I look forward to reading other works by Diana Raab in the future.

So Yesterday

So Yesterday by Scott Westerfeld is a young adult novel. From the back cover.~

Ever wonder who was the first kid to keep a wallet on a big chunky chain, or wear way-too-big pants on purpose? What about the mythical first guy who wore his baseball cap backwards? These are the Innovators, the people at the peak of the cool pyramid.

Seventeen-year-old Hunter Braque is a Trendsetter, on the second level of the pyramid. His job: find the newest, coolest thing for the retail market. His MO: observe, don't get involved.

But he has to get involved when he and his crush, Jen, discover his boss's cell phone in an abandoned building-and his boss missing. Hunter and Jen are soon snared in a web of brand-name intrigue: a missing cargo of the coolest shoes they've ever seen, ads for products that don't exist, and a shadowy group dedicated to the downfall of consumerism as we know it.

So Yesterday was the first book by Scott Westerfeld I've read. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more books by Westerfeld. So Yesterday is a fast-paced story about trends and how they come to be popular. There was really no products mentioned by name, but many were described well enough to know who made the products.

Hunter and Jen meet when he snaps a picture of her shoelaces to send to his boss. Hunter even gets Jen an invite to a focus group with a group of other Trendsetters. The adventure for Hunter and Jen begins when they are asked to meet his boss, Mandy, and only find her cell phone. While looking for Mandy, they find the coolest shoes ever made, go to a magazine launch party, are chased repeatedly by an unknown group, and seek the advise of other Trendsetter friends of Hunter.

I love the humor and the action in So Yesterday, and look forward to giving more books by Westerfeld a try.

Devil in Winter

Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas is the third book in "Wallflower" series. From the back cover~

Four young ladies enter London society and band together to each find a husband. Has the third "Wallflower" now met her match?

Easily the shyest Wallflower, Evangeline Jenner stands to become the wealthiest, once her inheritance comes due. Because she must first escape the clutches of her unscrupulous relatives, Evie has approached the rake Viscount St. Vincent with a most outrageous proposition:marriage!

Sebastian's reputation is so dangerous that thirty seconds alone with him will ruin any maiden's good name. Still, this bewitching chit appeared, unchaperoned, on his doorstep to offer her hand. Certainly an aristocrat with a fine eye for beauty could do far worse.

But Evie's proposal comes with a condition: no lovemaking after their wedding night. She will never become just another of the dashing libertine's callously discarded broken hearts-which means Sebastian will simply have to work harder at his seductions...or perhaps surrender his own heart for the very first time in the name of true love.

This was the first book I've read by Lisa Kleypas, but won't be the last. I found out about this book from CJ at http://thethrillionthpage.blogspot.com, and decided I must give it a try for myself. Evie seems to be a really weak person at the first of the book and Sebastian appears to only care about himself. As Evie and Sebastian spend more time together, they both seem to see something special in the other. Of course, Evie ending their lovemaking after their wedding night, only makes Sebastian want her even more.

Devil in Winter is a historical romance, which I haven't read in many years, but reminded me how much I enjoyed them in the past. I really liked the relationship between both Evie and Sebastian. Evie's friendship with the other "Wallflowers" shows how women really act as friends.

Overall, I really enjoyed Devil in Winter, and will look for more books by Lisa Kleypas in the future. I plan on reading the rest of the books in the "Wallflowers" series, once I get a few more books read from my TBR pile.

Jacob

Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank is the first book in her The Nightwalkers series. From the back cover~

Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers-the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one make makes certain to uphold this ancient law:Jacob, the Enforcer...

For 700 years he as resisted temptation. But not tonight...

Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them an they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total...until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire.

I really enjoyed the first Nightwalker story, which focuses on the Demons. There was much of the Demon history that was given in the first book, plus we met many of the most important characters for the series(many already have their own books). Jacob and Isabella have a very symbiotic relationship that explodes off the pages. Isabella was a librarian before meeting Jacob, so she is the perfect person to help look into the history of the Demons. Isabella finds something that totally changes the world of all Demons in the future. Isabella and Jacob find a love and passion with each other that goes beyond any laws.

I'm late to this series and can only thank my cousin for telling be about the books. She told me the series was wonderful and I can only agree. I look forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing if each of the Nightwalkers can find their own true loves like Jacob and Isabella.

Reaction Time

Reaction Time is the first book by debut author Alannah Lynne. Reaction Time is in ebook format and can be purchased directly from the publisher Samhain Publishing(www.samhainpublishing.com).

Nikki Kincaid is a race car driver in a job that is mostly dominated my men. Adam "Tight Ass" Guthrie, is an off-duty detective and friend of her brother, Nate. Adam is with Nikki at her latest race due to multiply threatening letters suggesting she would be better off if she no longer raced. Nikki and Adam have been attracted to each other from the time they first met, but Nikki doesn't want anyone to control her and she can tell that Adam would need to have control. Her theory is confirmed when Adam admits he is a sexual Dominant. Adam must convince Nikki the only place he wants control is in the bedroom, all while protecting her from whoever wishes her harm. Nikki and Adam's chemistry leaps off the screen(ebook format only for now) and the passion between them explodes. This was my first book with BDSM, and I was glad that Adam explained to Nikki how their relationship would work in detail.

I really enjoyed Reaction Time and look forward to many more books my Alannah Lynne in the future.

Primal Male

Primal Male by Sasha White is the December book club read from Jennifer's Random Musings. From the back cover~

An empath with the ability to sense others' emotions, Drake Wheeler has survived by keeping his own feelings shut off from the whole world. But nothing has prepared him for the sudden smoldering need that overtakes him in the presence of pureblood shape shifter Melissa Montrose. Even more surprising-he can't sense anything around the sultry bookstore owner...except for his fierce urge to take her here, now, over and over again...

Melissa has lived her life in a small town, hiding her family's mysterious birthright. A fling with the sexy tourist who wanders into her bookstore seems like a delicious, temporary diversion, until Drake touches her in exactly the way she craves, teasing and tempting every inch of her body into explosive ecstasy. Drake's obviously a man with secrets, but Melissa's go a few of her own, and she's going to show him just how wild and raw pure, primitive desire can be...

Sasha White is an new to me author. I'm glad Jennifer picked this book as I might a missed a really great read just browsing the bookstore. I really enjoyed the story and will look for the past books in the series. This book can stand alone, but I always want to know about the background of the other characters.

Melissa and Drake were both very strong characters and I loved the chemistry between them. They literally burned up the pages through much of the book. I also really love the mystery and the paranormal elements that were thrown into the story. Ms. White gives the reader a little bit of everything in a very strong story.

Wuthering High

Wuthering High by Cara Lockwood is the first book in her Bard Academy series. When Miranda, a slightly spoiled fifteen-year-old from Chicago smashes up her father's car and goes crazy with her step-mother's credit card, she is shipped off the Bard Academy, a boarding school where she is supposed to learn to behave. Miranda knows something is different about Bard Academy from the very first night. Her crazy roommate is convinced that Dracula is prowling the campus and Miranda and her new friends feel like they are caught up in some of the classic literature they are learning in class.

To complicate matters, Ryan Kent, a basketball player from Miranda's former school, has been sent to Bard Academy too. Ryan shows interest in Miranda from the beginning, but there are forces around the school that don't want Miranda near Ryan.

Miranda and her friends must solve the mystery of Bard Academy to not only stay alive, but to save the school. Miranda seems to be the key to keeping everything going on the right track for Bard Academy.

Lockwood writes a really fast-paced YA book that keeps the reader interested from page one. I look forward to reading more books by Lockwood.

Kill Me Twice

Kill Me Twice by Roxanne St. Claire is the first in the Bullet Catcher series. This was my first book by Roxanne St. Claire, and I loved it!

Alex Romero is the hottest "Bullet Catcher" in the business. Lucy Sharpe, the owner of Bullet Catchers, sends Alex to Miami to be a bodyguard to Jessica Adams, who is one of the news industry's rising stars. Unknown to Alex, Jessica and her twin sister Jasmine have already arranged for Jazz to "fill in" as Jessica for a week while Jessica finishes up some work on a huge story she is researching.

Alex and Jazz are instantly attracted to each other, but neither will initially give into those desires. They also must work together to find out where Jessica has gone, as the pieces start to fall into place that she actually might be in big trouble.

Lucy finally reveals to Alex who really hired them for the bodyguard job, just in time for two other Bullet Catchers to arrive to help Alex and Jazz find Jessica. Kill Me Twice has mystery, romance, and adventure, and I look forward to reading each of the other Bullet Catcher stories by St. Claire!

Marked

Marked by PC Cast and Kristin Cast is the first in A House of Night novels. This book is classified as YA, and I loved it. Zoey Redbird is marked as a fledgling vampyre at age 16 and joins the House of Night, as school where she will train to become an adult vampyre. She has been given special powers by the Goddess Nyx and soon discovers that she isn't the only fledgling with special powers. Zoey is even invited to join the exclusive Dark Daughters and Sons society.

Zoey soon realizes that the current leader of the Dark Daughters, Aphrodite, is using her power to bully others around and not revealing all of the visions that she sees. Zoey also is having problems with her ex-boyfriend showing up at her new school. Zoey must look into herself for the strength to battle Aphrodite and she finds it with the help of her new friends.

PC Cast and Kristin Cast write a fabulous book that I couldn't put down. I have the next two in the series in my TBR pile and plan to start Betrayed, which is the next in the series, right away.

One Night in Memphis

One Night in Memphis by Allie Boniface is a fast paced romance that takes place over the course of one day. Dakota James seems to attract men that are attached to other women. When her latest boyfriend, Sean McCabe doesn't finalize his divorce, she is finished with him for good. On the spur of the moment, she decides to leave her little New Hampshire town to visit her best friend Sarah in Memphis. Before she leaves, she finds a flash drive in her laptop and throws it in her purse on the way out the door. Unknown to Dakota, the flash drive contains a video of incriminating information on her ex-boyfriend Sean. When he discovers the flash drive is no longer in Dakota's apartment, he follows her to Memphis sure he can get the flash drive back with no problems.

Dakota and Sarah go with her friend Gunnar to the park to watch Gunnar play basketball and Dakota meets Ethan Meriweather briefly, but figures a chance encounter will never turn into anything. Sean even shows up at Sarah's apartment later to convince Dakota to return the flash drive. At that time, Dakota sees Sean for the person he really is and decides to never see him again. As luck would have it, Dakota and Ethan run into one another again that night in a local bar and the attraction between them builds the longer they are together.

With lots of suspense and several run-ins with Sean, Boniface gives the reader a great read with both action and adventure and romance. This was my first book by Boniface, but will continue to look for her books in the future.

Whispers in the Dark

Whispers in the Dark is the first book released by Kira Sinclair. I loved it and hope the there are many more books to come from Sinclair.

Karyn Mitchell once thought she would never let another man touch her, until she listens to Dr. Desire every night on the radio. Christopher Faulkner, Dr. Desire, has built an on-air career in carnal counseling. Karyn calls in because she is still trying to get past a date rape that happened 5 years ago. She knows that having sex with Dr. Desire will make it so she can lead a normal life.

Karyn and Chris both grow over the course of the book. They both learn to first stand on their own and then to trust another person. Sinclair writes a wonderful fun and sexy book.

Midnight Encounters

Midnight Encounters by Elle Kennedy is the very hot story of Maggie Reilly and actor Ben Barrett. Maggie is a hard working woman working her way through college as a waitress. She has met up with the same guy, Tony, 2-3 times a year for one hot night of wild sex. Maggie has gotten the call that Tony is in town and goes to meet him when she gets off work. She mistakenly shows up in Ben Barrett's room and things only heat up from that point.

Ben is fascinated by Maggie, because she has no idea that he is a famous actor. Maggie is just frustrated that once Ben is around, he won't leave. He distracts her from her school work, her volunteer work, and her actual job. Ben is hiding out from the press because he is the focus of a scandal.

Ben and Maggie both struggle with the attraction and the feelings they have for each other. Maggie has never been in a relationship in her entire life. She was abandoned as a child by her mother and doesn't really trust easily. Ben doesn't want the press to learn the real reason behind the scandal because he is trying to protect his mother.

Kennedy writes and amazing story that keeps the reader glued to the computer, as Midnight Encounters is currently only available in e-format. This is my first every book by Elle Kennedy, but definitely won't be my last!
