VAMPIRE'S FAITH (DARK PROTECTORS #8)

The Dark Protectors are Back!
Vampire King Ronan Kayrs wasn’t supposed to survive the savage sacrifice he willingly endured to rid the world of the ultimate evil. He wasn’t supposed to emerge in this time and place, and he sure as hell wasn’t supposed to finally touch the woman who’s haunted his dreams for centuries. Yet here he is, in an era where vampires are hidden, the enemy has grown stronger, and his mate has no idea of the power she holds.

Dr. Faith Cooper is flummoxed by irrefutable proof that not only do vampires exist . . . they’re hot blooded, able to walk in sunlight, and shockingly sexy. Faith has always depended on science, but the restlessness she feels around this predatory male defies reason. Especially when it grows into a hunger only he can satisfy—that is if they can survive the evil hunting them both.

Nikki’s Review:

This is the first book I've read by Rebecca Zanetti. I was told that this book is a good place to jump into this established series. I suppose that's true, but I did sometimes feel like I was missing out on something.

The beginning of the book packs a bit of a punch. The excitement starts straight away and drew me in. I immediately knew that I was going to like the heroine, Faith. And well, the hero, Ronan seemed pretty damn delicious.

I enjoyed the parts where Ronan was trying to figure all the modern advances in technology. It was both awkward and funny.

The chemistry between the hero and heroine was fiery and exciting. The live scenes were drool worthy!

Like I said, this is my first book by this author, and I'm happy that I decided to read it. I think I may have to go back and start the series from the beginning. The writing is exciting and very detailed The plot was fast paced and kept me engaged.

This book had all the ingredients that I look for in a good paranormal novel. I don't often step into the PN world of romance novels, but Ms. Zanetti has made me want to visit more often!

Nikki's Review:

I love paranormal romance. I love the fantasy of things that go bump in the night. And by bump, I mean sexy shifters, vampires, etc, bumping and grinding! As much as I love this genre, I'm really choosy about which ones I read. They are not all created equal. I have read a few of Rebecca Zanetti's contemporary books and I thought they were great. I had hope that her paranormal series would resonate with me too. Not so much. This one was a DNF (did not finish) for me. Man, I get so sad when that happens! Seriously, it pains me to not finish a book. But alas, it happens.

There is so much going on this book. And so many secondary characters that my head hurt trying to keep everyone straight. I had hoped that this book would read like a stand-alone. I felt like I was missing some background stories. I highly recommend reading book 1 before this one. Ms. Zanetti has built an intricate world full every paranormal being you can imagine. Again, a lot going on with a lot of players.

The hero, Daire, and the heroine, Cee Cee, didn't have a whole lot of chemistry outside of the bed yoga department. Now, I didn't finish the book, so maybe that changes. But I was 46% of the way through, and all I got was a "meh" feeling about them. The sex was yummy! No doubt about the hot sweaty stuff...it was good! But Cee Cee was a manipulative jerk and Daire was the masochist who was running after her all the time. I wanted to love these two, I really did! I kept waiting for that spark; it just never came for me.

I believe I gave this book a fair shot. 46% of the way through is enough for me to devote to a book that was making me think of anything BUT what the characters were getting up to. I suppose, from now on, I'll likely to stick Ms. Zanetti's contemporary reads. She's a fabulous writer! Unfortunately, this series just didn't rev me up.

Nikki's Review:

I was initially attracted to this book by the cover because it’s yummy. Hot and svelte guy…yes please! The blurb sealed the deal for me. I love romantic suspense. It’s easily one of my favourite sub genres. This is where my love for this book ended. I don’t take this lightly and I absolutely hate doing it, but this was a DNF (did not finish). I even hate typing that. When I start a book, I need to see it through to the end. I need to know where the characters end up and how they got there. So when a DNF happens, it kinda makes me sad.

I couldn’t connect with either of the characters in this book. Emm and Ross had zero connection. I managed to make it 30% into the book and they were still completely irritated with each other, with a glimmer of physical attraction. Ross didn’t have the time of day for Emm, and she was polite to him in a condescending way. Now, of course this could have changed, but since I couldn’t finish the book, I’ll never know.

Emm is looking for her kidnapped sister and niece…at least I think she was. I don’t know about anyone else, but if I was searching for my beloved family members that have been taken by a human trafficking cartel, I’d probably be pretty focused on that. Emm seemed more passionate about the historical buildings that she was trying to preserve. So not only did I not sense any connection between the hero and heroine, but I couldn’t sense Emm’s connection to her family or her worry for them.

I swear my eyes were glazing over at times. This book is very wordy. I like detail, I need detail, but there was so much going on in every sentence. And it wasn’t interesting stuff. I found myself playing around with the sentences after I read them to see if I could shorten them. Most of the time I could!

This review is short because I didn’t finish the book. I figure reading 30% of a book is enough to decide if I want to devote my precious reading time to it. This one didn’t make the cut. And I feel horrible about that.
