RACKED AND STACKED (BLACKTOP COWBOY #9)

Growing up with three older brothers, Larissa "Riss" Thorpe defines the term tomboy--a moniker that never mattered to her until she crossed paths with sexy cowboy playboy, Ike Palmer. His declaration that he prefers his women soft and feminine is the one benefit to becoming his business partner. Since Riss is obviously not his type, there's little chance they'll mix business and pleasure when they're in close quarters on the road together.

Former cattle broker Ike Palmer was ready for a new chapter in his life when he partnered with Riss, a contrary redhead who lords her mechanical abilities over him at every turn. Ike raised his three younger sisters; he knows a thing or three about how women work. The problem is...Riss is unlike any woman he's ever met.

With the odds stacked against them, Riss and Ike will have to choose between the stubbornness that keeps them apart and the fiery attraction that could lead to something more...

Nikki’s Review:

Nothing gets me more excited than a brand spanking new Lorelei James book! This book hit the ground running. Larissa (Riss) and Ike have a unique relationship. They start out as "frenemies" with some amazingly funny banter and name calling! I found myself laughing a lot throughout the whole book. Riss is pretty creative in her story telling and cussing. A girl after my own heart!

When Ike and Larissa end up as roommates, things to start heat up. But it was slow, so damn slow. And here's where my frustration began. I get not hopping into bed right away. I understand letting the lust burn a bit, but holy hell, this was slower than the second coming of Christ. I kept look at the page number on my kindle and thinking that it must be coming any minute now. But still I waited. And waited some more.

When these two FINALLY hit the sheets it was amazeballs. I think actually released a breath of relief!

I'm not gonna lie, Riss isn't my favourite Lorelei James heroine. She was a little too flakey for my liking. And sometimes a little too rough around the edges. But like I said, her sassy mouth kept me interested and laughing.

As always in a Lorelei James book, the writing and plot kept me engaged and interested...for the most part. I felt like the ending dragged on a bit more than it needed to.

While this wasn't my favourite book in this series, it was still crazy entertaining! Ike and Riss have a way of communicating that kept me smiling and anticipating their next conversation.

Liza's Review:

We first met Portia Hobbs in A Princess in Theory as Naledi's best friend. She had many personal issues going on and honestly wasn't always the best friend to Naledi, but I just knew there was so much more to Portia and was so excited to see we would get her story in A Duke by Default.

Portia has decided to become new Portia and in doing so, she pretty much is trying to reinvent herself. Portia wasn't super likable in A Princess in Theory, so I was so happy to see Portia try and change parts of herself for the better. Portia has always had so many varied interest yet has never been able to stick with just one thing. I hated she always seemed to compare herself to her super organized twin sister Reggie and always see herself as lacking. I absolutely loved moving to Scotland to be an apprentice to a sword maker was what helped her discover what made her tick and what she loved to do with her life.

Tavish McKenzie was pretty much swoon-worthy from the moment he appeared on the page, yet was a bit of an ass as well. He really did push Portia away pretty much from the moment they met thanks to being so attracted to her. However, Portia being Portia, she set herself to helping every other aspect of Bodotria Armory as well as some of the other businesses in the area. I loved how quickly Portia made friends with the locals and her instinctive need to fix things and how she wanted to learn about her temporary home, which led to discovering Tavish was the legitimate son of a duke.

I loved the fact that the more time Tavish and Portia spent together, the closer they became and the harder it was to avoid their attraction to each other. There was serious chemistry between them that had been there from the moment they met. I loved they seemed to get each other in a way no one else really had before and accepted each other quirks and all. They were very clearly friends first and I loved the pacing of their relationship. The slow build up worked for me as Portia needed to understand more about herself before she was ready to be with anyone. Portia also understood Tavish in a way few others did and used her understanding of him to help him as he navigated the new world he was thrust into.

I loved that Portia was able to figure out she had ADHD thanks to a link sent to her from Reggie. I think it was part of the reason she was able to finally figure out how she need to live her life. It pretty much killed me how her parents treated her, yet I loved once she and Reggie had a real conversation about everything that had gone on, they became even closer than before.  I did wonder why Portia never shared her diagnosis with her parents, but also wondered if they would have really listened to her if she had tried.

A Duke by Default was such a fun and emotional read for me. Ms. Cole has quickly become an auto-buy author for me after just 2 books and I absolutely adore her voice. I loved watching Tavish and Portia fall in love, and I absolutely know they are strong enough to manage anything life throws at them in the future.

NOT QUITE PERFECT by Rebecca Norinne

Releasing September 26th

Blurb:

I cant believe I met the perfect man ...

On the ferry to my mothers wedding, I met the most amazing man—his love of Faulkner notwithstanding. Professor David Carstairs was funny, intelligent, and had the sexiest hands Id ever seen.

A conversation about classic American literature led to a romantic dinner at his house ... and then a whole lot of dessert afterward. Id never done anything like that before, but what we had was something special.

Unfortunately, everything came crashing down the next day. Because my supposedly perfect professor? His dad just married my mom, and now hes my stepbrother!

Thanksgiving dinner just got a whole lot more complicated.

Ive finally found the perfect woman ...

En route to watch my father marry yet another young gold digger, I met the perfect woman—her hatred of Faulkner notwithstanding. Victoria Witherspoon was kind, witty, and had the most kissable lips Id ever seen.

We spent the day together, and then stayed up all night exploring each others bodies. I dont do relationships, but for someone as perfect as Victoria, I was ready to make an exception.

If only her mom hadnt just married my dad, putting the object of all my fantasies firmly in the “off limits”category.

And I thought the holidays were awkward before.

Bibliophile Mystery #12
Cozy Mystery
Review copy provided by publisher

Liza's Review:

The Bibliophile books remain some of my favorite cozy mysteries ever. I know I'm in for a treat as soon as I start reading each book and I love I learn a little about history in each new book as well. With Buried in Books, we were finally getting the payoff of Brooklyn and Derek's wedding and it was so worth the wait.

I was pulled into Brooklyn and Derek's world once again from the very first page. I enjoy the mysteries in each story as they aren't overly gory yet keep me wanting to figure everything out before Brooklyn and Derek can. As it is Brooklyn and Derek's wedding week, I of course hoped they could keep the murders away from their happy day, but no way murder isn't going to continue to follow them around.  Sadly just as Brooklyn is reconnecting with 2 best friends from college, she finds Sara dead, which puts Brooklyn in the middle of yet another murder case.

I found Buried in Books to be a very fast-paced read that kept me guessing almost right until the end. I say guessing as I'd figured out part of the puzzle but not everything. I love we got to spend time with so much of Brooklyn's family in this book as well. I seriously have mad love for both Brooklyn's and Derek's parents and when the 2 moms get together; there is nothing but laughter from me. I love the amount of humor mixed in with each book as it keep them from being too dark and the romance between Derek and Brooklyn is always spot on.

Buried in Books was another winner in the Bibliophile series for me. Twelve books in and I'm still loving the stories and anxiously awaiting each new release. I can't wait to see where Ms. Carlisle takes this series in the future.
