THE BOURBON THIEF

When Cooper McQueen wakes up from a night with a beautiful stranger, it's to discover he's been robbed. The only item stolen—a million-dollar bottle of bourbon. The thief, a mysterious woman named Paris, claims the bottle is rightfully hers. After all, the label itself says it's property of the Maddox family who owned and operated Red Thread Bourbon distillery since the last days of the Civil War until the company went out of business for reasons no one knows… No one except Paris.

In the small hours of a Louisville morning, Paris unspools the lurid tale of Tamara Maddox, heiress to the distillery that became an empire. But the family tree is rooted in tainted soil and has borne rotten fruit. Theirs is a legacy of wealth and power, but also of lies, secrets and sins of omission. The Maddoxes have bourbon in their blood—and blood in their bourbon. Why Paris wants the bottle of Red Thread remains a secret until the truth of her identity is at last revealed, and the century-old vengeance Tamara vowed against her family can finally be completed.

Liza’s Review:

I'm a huge fan of Tiffany Reisz. Her Original Sinners series remains one of my favorite series ever. I was excited to get a new book from Ms. Reisz and couldn't wait to read The Bourbon Thief. While The Bourbon Thief is completely different from the Original Sinners books, readers still get to enjoy the voice they've come to know and love from Ms. Reisz.

I'll be honest and say I don't read many books classified as Women's Fiction any longer. However, when one of your favorite authors puts out a book in that genre, you read the book. The Bourbon Thief was a really good book, though it was a tough read at times. I loved Tamara Maddox from the moment we met her and adored Levi Shelby as well. Part of what I loved about the story was Paris telling the history of the Maddox family to Cooper McQueen as she was stealing a million-dollar bottle of bourbon. I felt shades of Nora sharing her stories in the Original Sinners books as Paris shared the past with Cooper. I'm not a huge fan of bourbon, but loved learning about the history and the process it took to make bourbon.

There are many dark parts to The Bourbon Thief and I'll admit I had to put the book down once or twice because it was pretty tough to read. Ms. Reisz brought the bourbon world to life in this book and I'm glad I read the story. While it isn't my favorite book from Ms. Reisz, it was a very well written story, and I did find myself being pulled in from the beginning.

Liza’s Review:

The Dirty Sexy series is one of my most favorite series I've ever read. I've fall in love with each and every one of the Kincaid brothers as I've read each story. I knew from reading Dirty Sexy Saint and Dirty Sexy Inked the Kincaid brothers had all had a rough childhood, but until we got Levi's story, I had no idea how rough it was for him.

Levi is the youngest of the 3 siblings, so he was left with their prostitute, drug-addict mother during the day while Clay and Mason were in school. If that woman wasn't already dead, I would want to beat the crap out of her for the hell she put her 5 year-old son through. Levi brought me to tears as he shared with Sarah about his childhood. Sarah and Levi connected on so many levels, and one of them was bad childhoods. Sadly Sarah lost her entire family in a fire when she was only 8 years old. Readings Sarah's story again brought tears to my eyes, but for a different reason. I too lost my mom in a house fire, but I was 12 years old at the time. You really never get over that kind of loss, and Sarah continued to feel the loss of her family all those years later. I felt like Ms. Phillips and Ms. Wilde did an amazing job handling the trauma of both characters.

I absolutely loved that Levi pursued Sarah relentlessly. I knew she had to be super special, as in the past 2 books, we'd never seen Levi with another woman. Levi had a greater need than either of his brothers for control thanks to his childhood. I wondered if Sarah would be okay with giving up control following her ex-boyfriend trying to keep her within his cult. I loved that Levi and Sarah totally seemed to get each other from their very first date. Levi moved pretty slowly with Sarah feeling her out with his need for control. I almost felt like she blossomed under Levi's control. They had some of the hottest sex scenes in the series to date, and I absolutely loved how much they each wanted to take care of the other. I also loved that Levi felt safe giving up some of his control to Sarah and she was the first woman he ever had that experience with in his life.

I absolutely loved watching Levi and Sarah fall for one another. They worked as a couple from the very beginning. I loved how well they got one another and really loved that Sarah finally had a family again with Levi and his siblings. I also loved that Sarah had girlfriends again with Samantha and Katrina. Ms. Phillips and Ms. Wilde gave their readers a super sexy, sweet and emotional story that hit on every one of my emotions perfectly. The Dirty Sexy series is such a wonderful series and I'm so glad to see we will get another book in this series in the future.

Nikki’s Review:

This series just keeps getting better and better! I adored the first book. Clay was oh so delicious. I fell head over heels for Mason in book two. But this book just rocked in so many ways!

Levi Kincaid exercises control in every aspect of his life. He doesn't drink or even take prescription painkillers. Letting anything cloud his mind or decisions isn't an option. Having grown up with a drug addicted mother and neglect beyond comprehension; he'll never feel like that lost and scared child again. I've been curious about, Levi from the start. He's quiet and unassuming. I could sense his quiet strength. It was always simmering right below the surface. Each book revealed a bit more. The doors were blown wide open in this book! I loved watching, Levi's layers being peeled back. I loved watching him succumb to love.

Sarah Robins has had a rough go in life. She drifted in and out of foster homes until she aged out of the system. She's struggling to find her way and be happy. When she meets, Levi, he throws her world off of its axis. She isn't looking for love and commitment...neither is he. Funny thing though, the heart doesn't give a damn. I think these two were both shocked at the intense feelings that developed so quickly. Puzzle pieces. That's how I describe them. Nothing and no one "fit" them until they found each other. I loved how they could relate so deeply to each other's pasts and all the trauma from their childhoods. There wasn't any crap between them; there weren't any secrets. Their hearts wouldn't let them hold onto their pain anymore.

I truly think that, Levi and Sarah are kindred spirits; star crossed lovers. The entire relationship was so organic and beautiful. Sure they had obstacles, what relationship doesn't?

Lawd! Levi is sinfully filthy! I can hear his low growly voice in my head. Forget whispering sweet nothings. This man is full dirty sexy nothings! Erika Wilde and Carly Phillips really got my pulse racing with all the sexual tension. And holy hell, when these two get all twisted up in the sheets it's freakin' glorious!

Getting to see, Levi throw his carefully constructed discipline out the window for the one woman who makes him want more than a bang against the wall, is both thrilling and heart warming. I said this was my favourite book in the series. I think the reason I feel that way, is because we get to witness true vulnerability in the characters. I could go on and on about this entire series. But seriously, just read it...from the start. If you love a book with great characters who support each other, solid writing, and seductively wicked love scenes, then Ms. Wilde and Ms. Phillips have you covered!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese, which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty (in her own mind) Facebook comments and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn't lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe.

EXCERPT

Kevin wasn’t sure why he was surprised Holly was here. She was a wedding planner, and from what he’d seen so far, she was a damn good one.
He’d been on his way out of the room, needing a breather from the noise and the chaos of the reception when he’d seen her at the table. He hadn’t planned on asking her to dance—hell, he hated to dance—but he’d been desperate for a reason to talk to her.
When he sat back down at the table, Tyler wore a smirk. “Crashed and burned, huh? I thought you were going to the bathroom to take a piss.”
“I was. I just happened to run into a friend.”
“Run into a friend, my ass. I thought we’d sworn off women. I’ve held up my end of the bachelor brotherhood. And let me add that I had no idea my balls could turn this blue.”
“She’s a friend,” Kevin said, trying not to sound irritated and feed any more fuel to the fire.
“She’s his neighbor,” Matt said, taking a sip of his beer, and giving Kevin a pointed look. “They’re friends.”
Tyler burst out laughing. “You got friend-zoned?”
“No,” Kevin said slowly, picking up his drink, surprised Matt hadn’t told Tyler about the situation he’d stumbled upon. “I was the one who said I wanted to be friends.”
“Why?” Tyler asked, watching Holly with a little more interest than Kevin liked. “She’s hot. Do you know if she’s seeing anyone?”
“No.” Kevin’s irritation grew.
Tyler stood and adjusted his tie, a smirk lighting up his eyes. “Screw the brotherhood. I think I’ll go over and introduce myself.”
Kevin was up in a flash. “I don’t think so.”
“Why not?” he looked surprised. “She looks like she’d be worth a short break from my hiatus from women.”
Kevin stepped in front of his path, his jaw set. “Because you’re a prick who will use her and toss her aside and she deserves a helluva lot better than that.”
Matt was up in an instant, grabbing Kevin’s arm. “Why don’t we get some air?”
“You like her,” Tyler said, slack jawed.
“Of course he likes her,” Matt said. “For someone so smart, sometimes you’re an idiot.”
“In my defense,” Tyler said. “He said they were friends.”
“Okay,” Matt said slowly. “When was the last time you convinced a woman to be just a friend?”
“Never.”
“I rest my case, counselor.”
Tyler sat back down, and Matt tugged on Kevin’s sleeve to get him to join them.
“I can’t believe you didn’t last even a single week,” Tyler said.
“He didn’t last a single day,” Matt told him. “He slept with her the night after our agreement to remain single.”
Tyler burst out laughing. “For a tough-ass former Marine, I expected you to be the last holdout, man. At least a week or two.”
