There are times when you meet a secondary character in a book and you just want to know more about that character. Gabriel Rossi is that character for me from Roxanne St. Claire. I've wanted Gabe's story from the first time he appeared on the page back in the Guardian Angelinos series. I'm one of those readers who always wanted to know more about Gabe and wanted him to find happiness. Well, Gabriel Rossi fans, Roxanne St. Claire not only gave us Gabe's book, she gave us the perfect book for Gabe.

I'll admit I struggle writing this review. I loved Barefoot with a Bad Boy so much I honestly just want to tell everyone to trust me and go buy and read the book. Seriously, Roxanne St. Claire hit it out of the ballpark with this book. The romantic suspense elements were perfect and the romance made me swoon a few times. Add in Gabe's bad-boy presence and a kick-ass heroine in Isadora/Lila, and I just loved every single minute of this book.

I try to avoid talking about spoilers in my reviews as much as possible, so I'm going to be a vague as possible with my favorite parts of this book. I absolutely loved every single minute Gabriel Rossi was on the page. Whether he was in Mr. Spy mode or trying to keep his language clean around Poppy and Rafe, he was the Gabe I've always loved. I also loved his interactions with Isadora/Lila so very much. The chemistry between the two was so strong and only grew stronger the more time they were back together. The emotional connection was so strong that just being around Gabe effected Lila in a major way that usually only happened when she was around her son Rafe. The banter between Uncle Nino and Poppy makes me smile every single time they are on the page together. I absolutely adore both characters and love the friendship that has developed thanks to Gabe having them both under his wing.

I love a romantic suspense story that keeps me guessing until the very end and will say with all honesty, I did not see the bad guy coming. I had in my mind who it was from somewhat early on, and overlooked the signs of the read bad guy. While I hated the bad guy was able to step between Gabe and Isadora/Lila for a bit, I love the genius way it was accomplished. 

Barefoot with a Bad Boy gave me the story I'd been waiting for when it came to getting Gabriel Rossi's full story and his chance at a Happily Ever After. Thank you Rocki for not only being true to one of your reader's favorite characters ever, but going above and beyond to make his story perfect.

A Shaken Dirty Novel book 3

I can not begin to tell you how ecstatic I was to get an ARC of this book! Two years is a long time to wait to for the next book in a series that you've fallen in love with. Don't get me wrong, I understand that stuff happens and book release dates get pushed back for all sorts of reasons. But the waiting is never easy...at least, not for me. So, my book girl heart was so full when this beauty landed on my iPad!

I met Wyatt in book 1. I immediately wanted to wrap him up in cotton and make him better. I could tell his demons ran deep and he was drowning. Despite his addictions, he's this great guy. You can't help but like him. So, while reading books 1 and 2, I fell in love with him, more and more. I knew he was a tortured soul, which made waiting for his book, that much more difficult. I needed to see him be genuinely happy. I was invested in this character. 

What I loved about this book was the raw truth in it. Wyatt comes out of rehab, yet again, and he isn't magically cured. He's beaten down and you get a real sense of his desperation and his addiction to heroine riding him hard. He's done the detox and counseling. But now the hard stuff starts...life. And living that life without the numbing effects of drugs and alcohol. The "feels" in this book took my breath away. I went through so many emotions in the hours that I spent with Poppy and Wyatt. Sometimes, it almost felt intrusive to watch their journey. It was so intensely private. The struggle was incredible!

Poppy brings Wyatt to his knees. She's a strong woman who wants to be there for him and lift some of the burdens from him. Their relationship starts off hot and heavy...lawd, Wyatt is enough to melt any woman into a messy puddle! But there's some deception on Poppy's part. And you can see that there's going to be a huge hurtle to jump when it all comes to ahead. 

These two characters are magnificent together! Though, I worried at times that, Wyatt was trading his addiction to heroine with an addiction or intense need for Poppy. But, I suppose if you have to be dependant on something, loving someone isn't the worst thing! 

This book is about redemption. It's about a man learning to forgive himself for something that was never his fault to begin with. It's about strength, and digging deep, so deep that you aren't sure you'll find it, but it's there. And then drawing on that strength to get through the next moment, minute, hour, day, and week. I was wrecked by Wyatt's journey. I was torn apart by his struggle to be the man he wants to be. But witnessing the loyalty of his bandmates, his best friends, I was built back up again. Poppy is a pillar of steadiness and while, Wyatt has to do the work himself to get better, she's his flashlight in the darkest moments.

While waiting for this book to come out drove me batty, Tracy Wolff took the time needed to give Wyatt his story. She did this character justice, and he deserved no less than this perfect telling. I loved visiting with all the band members. Though, the overall tone of the book was somber and sometimes difficult to read, there was still some much needed humour among friends. The laughs were placed just right. When I thought Wyatt's pain was most palpable, I'd read a scene that would bring me out of a funk. It was perfect. And the steamy stuff? Hot damn! Tracy Wolff writes good and sweaty sex! Who knew adventures in an alley, behind a club could be so drool worthy!

I suggest starting with book 1, Crash into Me, so you get a full understanding of Wyatt's addictions. You need to see his fall to rock bottom, before you can totally appreciate his journey back from hell. Not to mention, you should totally read Ryder and Quinn's books, because they are pretty freakin' delicious! My only hope is that book 4 doesn't take as long to come out.

Excerpt 

He's watching me. I want to step closer to him but I can't. I won't.

Because I'm not blind to the darkness in Mr. Douglas. It's there, just below the surface. Like a pot of water just before it boils.

The tension is back, now. A slow burning anger I should be getting as far away from as I possibly can.

"What?" I finally ask, needing something to break the spell between us.

"Why do you care why I got angry in class? You don’t even know my name.”

I narrow my eyes at him and open my mouth, then snap it closed, mirroring his earlier action. I didn't expect the question and I have no idea how to answer.

Because in reality, I don’t have an answer for why I’m standing here at the moment.

Damn it.

My brain finally latches onto the first thing I come up with

"Wookie life debt. Payback for you helping me the other night."

I try to leave then. Hoping that he’ll let me go and put all my curiosity away. For good.

"Hey." His voice tugs at me to stop.

I won't look at him now. Because I'm ashamed of what he'll see if he looks into my eyes.

And I can't stand the thought of him seeing the needful loneliness that has become my constant companion since Robert ripped my heart out and left it bleeding on the cobblestone sidewalk.

"What's your name?" His voice is low and quiet. Steady now. Almost calm.

I turn, unable to avoid looking at him now.

It dawns on me that no, I don't know his name.

I stand there for a moment, hesitant. The last time this happened, I fell too far, too fast.

This time will be different. Because I'm not going to make the same mistake twice.

It's like standing too close to an electrical current.

The simplicity of the question is deceptively benign.

I'm drawn to him in a way that is unhealthy and dangerous. He's already consuming my thoughts, drawing my attention away from the matter at hand and luring me down a dark corridor where only dark thoughts and whispered need twist together.

I hold up one hand, needing to break the spell or whatever is going on between us. My hand collides with his chest, and I am flush against the stark reminder of this man's strength and power and capability to do violence.

There's a small cut over his left eye, from the other night. Before the rational part of my brain kicks in, I brush my fingertips gently over the bruised and damaged skin.

He goes still beneath my touch. That full bottom lip opens a little. A tiny space, but I can feel the heat of his breath on my wrist.

His eyes are locked on mine. I'm trapped, unable to move. I'm not sure I want to. I'm furious for him but I'm frozen, burning where my fingers touch his skin.

I cannot move. Cannot look away.

"I'm Josh," he whispers. An answer to an unasked question.

I’m a huge fan of Jessica Scott and was super excited to get a chance to read her new book early. I always know when I start a Jessica Scott book, I’m in for a very emotional ride, and Break My Fall was no different.

Both Josh and Abby have some history of violence in their lives; Abby from her mom’s boyfriend and Josh from fighting in a war. I almost felt like their souls were lost and lucky enough to find one another. There was nothing easy about the relationship between Abby and Josh, but I think I liked them better as a couple for the struggles they had to overcome to be together.

While I can’t imagine how hard it must be for a soldier to return to civilian life, Ms. Scott has done an amazing job over an over again sharing the struggles and the emotions involved with going from soldier to civilian. We get to see not only Josh’s struggles in Break My Fall, but his other friend’s struggles as well. I’ll honestly say I want to know more about both Eli and Caleb so I can understand what they are going through as well.

Break My Fall is a very emotional read which pulled every emotion from me while I was reading it. I also kept thinking about the characters long after I finished reading. I love a book that not only pulls me  in, but keeps me thinking about it long after I’ve finished reading.
