Excerpt:

He settled on the edge of her desk, too close for her peace of mind.
“What are you doing?” she asked.
“Saying hello.”  His breath ruffled her hair, and she shivered.  “And catching up.”
This friendly Alex was new.  Up until now, he’d perfected being completely professional, but since they shared an office, the underlying sexual tension was ever present.  She couldn’t inhale without smelling Alex’s familiar scent, reminding her of hot, passionate nights in his bed.
She couldn’t look up without catching a glimpse of his dark head bent over notes or his computer, bringing up memories of how she’d tangle her fingers in the long strands of his hair as her orgasm washed over her.  The low timbre of his voice echoed through her, causing every nerve ending in her body to tingle with awareness.  And they worked really well together, as it turned out, reminding her that their camaraderie had extended outside the bedroom as well.
On day one, when she’d accused him of not having staying power, it had been a subtle dig at his revolving door of women, not his work ethic.  So she wasn’t at all surprised he’d thrown himself into this job with the same dedication he’d shown in his football career.  She didn’t need anything to soften her toward him, but had to admit, she admired his enthusiasm for their project and the ideas he’d brought to the table so far.
Still, she’d expected him to leave at five.  Instead, he’d stay until seven or eight, always walking her to the parking lot at the end of the day.  What had happened to the parties at his house? The constant rotation of friends and teammates who came through his front door for poker, beer, and pizza?  The bars with the groupies?
She frowned at the reminder.  Maybe he went there afterwards, but he didn’t seem like he was partying.  At all.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.  “You’re looking at me funny.”
She frowned at how well he read her.  “It’s just that you’re surprising me,” she grudgingly admitted.
“In a good way? Or bad?” He leaned in closer.
“Sit back,” she muttered.  “I need breathing room.”
He shot her a knowing grin.  “I don’t mind being so close to you.”  His brown eyes sparkled with mischief.  “You smell good.”  He deliberately inhaled, his nose close to the sensitive spot behind her ear.
“Stop!”  She slid her chair back from her desk.
Chuckling, he raised both hands in the air.  “Fine.  Then spend time with me away from work, and I won’t push any agenda here.”
She raised her eyebrows high.  “So you admit you have an agenda?”
A dimple formed in his cheek.  “I admit I want to spend time with you.  Anything else I say can only get me in trouble.”  He grinned, surely intending to disarm her.  “Let’s go for dinner tonight.”
“I can’t.”
“You mean you won’t.”
“I mean I can’t.  I have a date.”  With her foster brother, Eric, but she wasn’t about to give Alex any information on her family issues.
His smile turned into a deadly scowl she’d only seen on the football field.  Did her after-work plans really bother him so much?
“Who’s the guy? Is it serious?” he asked, suddenly back in her personal space.
She felt lightheaded at his nearness, and the desire to throw herself against his hard body was strong.  “I’m meeting my foster brother,” she said, only realizing she’d buried herself with the truth.
A shimmer of light returned to his gaze.  “Okay, eat light with him, and we’ll go out after.”
She wrinkled her nose in confusion.  “What’s with the persistence? I mean, if you were anyone else, I’d think you don’t want to go home and eat alone.”  But Alex Dare was never alone.
He looked away and awareness dawned.  Could he be lonely? “Alex, what’s going on? Where are all the guys who came in and out of your house at all hours when I was there?” He was the most popular guy she’d ever met, never at a loss for company, male or female, whether in Miami or in Tampa.
“Things changed.”  He didn’t turn to meet her gaze.
This wasn’t the cocky Alex she remembered.  But she wasn’t letting him off the hook.  “Changed how?”
He was silent for so long she didn’t think he’d answer.  When he did, he spoke so low she had to strain to hear.
“After the hit, I wasn’t exactly in a good place.”
She knew that firsthand.  She bit her lip, refusing to snap back a retort because it just might give him insight into how much he’d hurt her.
He glanced up at her, the knowledge already in his eyes.  “I was nasty to my family, my friends.  I didn’t want company.”
“You weren’t at your best,” she agreed.
“True.”  He grinned, the cockiness back.
For some reason, that reassured her.  “And let me guess, not only didn’t you want their help, you didn’t want their pity.”
“Bingo.  And after a while, the guys stopped coming by.”  He shrugged like it didn’t matter.
Without looking at his expression, she knew better.  Knew him better.  Scary, considering a few minutes ago she’d thought she didn’t know him that well at all.
She cleared her throat.  “What about your siblings? I’m sure they were there for you.”
“They were.  They are. But if they think I need them, they’ll smother me.”
She shook her head at how easily he dismissed something so precious.  “You’re lucky you have a brother and sister who care.” Speaking of siblings reminded her of her meeting with her foster brother, and she glanced at her watch.
“I don’t want to keep you,” he said, picking up on her cue.  He slid off the desk and walked to his own corner of the room, looking more isolated than she liked.
She was torn over what to do.  Being with him outside of work was so dangerous to her peace of mind.  Most people she found easy to keep out.  Not Alex.

Lynn Raye Harris Guest Post

I very excited to welcome author Lynn Raye Harris to my blog today. I've been reading Lynn's books pretty much since she was first published with Harlequin. While she continues to write with Harlequin, Lynn started releasing her Hostile Operations Team (HOT) books last year on her own. I've read Hot Pursuit, Hot Mess, and Hot Package so far and I've loved them all. Dangerously Hot, which was released on April 6, 2014 is currently waiting for me on my kindle and I know I'll love Kevin and Lucky's story every bit as much as I loved the first three. I love telling other readers about awesome books, and I think y'all will love the HOT books! Lynn has also agreed to do a giveaway for  a digital copy of Hot Pursuit, book one in the series to one lucky reader. Thanks again for visiting with me today, Lynn!

Where did you get the idea for the Hostile Operations Team?

Well, I grew up in a military family and then I married a military man, so I spent a lot of time on military bases in my life. There’s just something about a man in uniform, isn’t there? Joining the military is a big decision, and it comes with a lot of benefits and a lot of challenges. The kind of men and women who stay, who go to war and defend this country when called upon to do so, are deserving of our respect.

But there’s another kind of warrior, and those are the ones who fight the battles no one ever hears about. The kind of warrior who goes after the terrorists or the pirates or the warlords, and who doesn’t do it for the glory.  I wanted to write about a team of Special Operators who do just that. Who keep us safe even when we don’t know it, and who will continue to do so until there’s no breath left in their bodies. What makes someone willing to sacrifice everything in order to keep the rest of us safe? I don’t know, but I love exploring that question in my books!

Do you have a specific number of books in mind for the HOT series?

I don’t!  Originally, I conceived the idea as a 3 to 6 book series that I would hopefully sell to New York and they would publish them for me. But then self-publishing came along, and I have the freedom to do what I want. I will write as many of these books as I have ideas for. Right now, I’m working on the fifth story, and I have ideas for a sixth and seventh. And a novella for Colonel Mendez, who seems to be a fan favorite!

Do you have a favorite hero you’ve written?

I always love the one I’m currently writing. At this moment, it’s Jack Hunter. But Kevin MacDonald in DANGEROUSLY HOT has a special place in my heart. I wrote the first chapter of his story almost seven years ago now. And then I put it away for a long time, while I wrote twenty books for Harlequin, and hoped I’d get to finish it some day. That day came when I decided to self-publish the series. And I’m thrilled!

I know you got your publishing start with Harlequin. How cool is it to be able to say you are a Harlequin writer (those were the first romances I read)?

It’s very cool!  Harlequin Presents were the first romances I ever read, so to be writing those very romances I loved so much is a thrill I will never get over. I read Penny Jordan when I was a teenager, and now I write the same kinds of books. It’s unbelievably rewarding to be a Presents author!

Do you tend to plot your books for fly by the seat of your pants?

I fly by the seat of my pants, but I’m getting somewhat better at sketching out a direction. I’ve started using Scrivener and it gives me the ability to write in chunks and move those chunks around if I need to (though I’m pretty linear, really). I love that! I also make lots of notes about what could happen next. And I brainstorm with a couple of other writers, and they help me to think in terms of stages and turning points.

Do you have a Pinterest board with pictures of your heroes and heroines?

Do I ever!  You can access all my Pinterest boards here: http://www.pinterest.com/lynnrayeharris/  You’ll see I have boards for many things, including the HOT series and some of my Harlequins.  I even have a fan board for HOT!  Fans can join and pin pictures if they like.  All you have to do is leave a comment on one of the pins and tell me you want to join, and I’ll approve you. You can be up and pinning HOT pictures in no time!

Thanks for having me today, Liza.  Please tell your readers to come visit me at http://www.lynnrayeharris.com/. I look forward to hearing from them!

Hot Pursuit - Book 1

But then someone starts shooting at her, her sullen baby sister is suddenly missing, and the high school heartthrob who stole her heart—and her virginity—is the only man big enough and bad enough to help.

Might be the only one who can save her…

Captain Matt “Richie Rich” Girard can’t afford to get involved. He’s already on the verge of a court-martial after a Top Secret op gone wrong, and he’s been ordered to stay out of trouble while he’s home for his sister’s wedding.
But when Evie’s ex-partner turns up dead, staying out of trouble is the last thing on Matt’s mind. He failed Evie once before; he can’t fail her again. The King JR Ward Signing Recap

J.R. Ward Q&A Session for The King
Cincinnati, OH Millennium Hotel

*******If you have not read The King, you will read spoilers in this post*******
*******You have been warned!!!**************

All spelling mistakes are my own...never sure where to put all those extra "h" in the names. LOL

The next book in the BDB series is called The Shadows. It will be both Trez and iAm’s stories.

Murdher is coming back in The Shadows!!!

Selena has a disease of the Chosen. Ward didn’t really elaborate much on the disease.

Asked about Rhage & Mary’s baby and she can’t say anything about the GD kid, but could be coming soon.

Scribe Virgin (SV) Something major has to happen for the SV to reengage with this world.

She knows who the next 3 books are about, but wouldn’t give any hints, as she knew we would figure it out.

Will we get another Insider’s Guide? Wants to do another one, but her focus for now is on the next 3 books.

Xcor & Layla will be together, but not sure how soon.

Was asked about John Matthew remembering his life as Darius. Ward says he still won’t remember his life as Darius. However his brain will continue to misfire at times.

The Sympaths will be trouble in the future.

The timelines get wonky sometimes when she is writing the books. We moved 6 months forward in Wrath’s book

JM will be a brother.

Once again asked about lying about V. She still won’t say what she lied about, but apologized for lying and ever mentioning the lie.

Someone asked if we might ever get prequels about Darius and some of the other brothers. Ward loved the idea and would enjoy telling what came before. Not sure when or if she will have time to write them.

Is Boo bonded to iAm? Absolutely!!! Boo not exactly a cat

The Fallen Angel series will end with Immortal. Some of the FA characters will transition to the BDB stories.

Lassiter will remain in the BDB world.

The baby stuff was extremely tough for Ward to write. In fact, she cried a bit when she talked about Beth’s delivery.

We will see Aghony (Phury and Cormia’s son) at some point.

Ward really isn’t as interested in writing women characters. She liked dudes. J

Would like to have another chance with Phury, Cormia and Aghony to give readers another chance to see them.

Tohr and Xcor are brothers (she had let that slip at Qhuay’s signing last year and didn’t remember telling us).

Asked if we would see Michael from the short story again and she said it was possible, but not anytime soon.

iAm will not end up with Abe’s daughter. She will end up being “adopted” as a little sister to the members of the brotherhood.

Saxton will get his HEA, but not with iAM. iAM likes women and we haven’t met her yet.

Lash will be coming back (BOO) and with a girlfriend…Devina from FA series

Wants to write and post more Slices of Life

Do you have dreams of the stories? More like watching scenes on Tivo and being able to fast forward and rewind as needed.

Asked if we will see more of the foreman and his family? She said she wasn’t sure, but loved the interaction between Wrath and the foreman and other non-glymera families.

Tohr got his HEA with Autumn.

Lucas – Qhuinn’s brother will be seen again. He has a long road to come back, but will get better. Asked if anything is hidden in him, and she wouldn’t answer.

If Wrath hadn’t done away with the monarchy, Butch would be the next in line as king based on their bloodline.

Asked if Blay and Qhuinn have any terms of endearment for one another and Ward said “bend over and I’ll drive”. The entire room went wild!

Why was V notified about Payne fighting Wrath and not Manny? It was a brother to brother connection. Human world doesn’t get the significance of everything.

Where are the Chosen? They are going back and forth between the great camp and the Sanctuary. Asked why they go between and she joked they don’t have cable at the Sanctuary.

Important things about the future will be figuring out the future of the training program and the Chosen finding purchase.

Assail – She freaking loves him!!!! Says he is one hot MF!!! He is a vampire. (If you don't like him, you better get used to him being in the world. She LOVES him so much)

Some of the authors she loves to read when she gets time to read….which isn’t very often.

Darynda Jones
Laura Kaye
Suzanne Brockman
Karen Marie Moning
Christine Feehan
Charlaine Harris

Xcor and Throe are changing in ways she didn’t see. Xcor is becoming a better man because of Layla. Throe might not be a good guy. She makes her very uncomfortable.

Asked about the Bloodletter  and his bloodline. Doesn’t talk about it much as his bloodline is filled with a bunch of assholes.

Once the Fallen Angel books are done, Ward will still continue to write only 1 BDB book per year. It is exhausting to write the books and she is afraid if she went back to writing 2 per year she will burn through the books and not tell the stories right.

There will be another series, but Ward wouldn’t give any indication as to what or who the series would be about.

Qhuinn & Blay could get each other’s names on their backs like other mated males. Ward says she isn’t sure if or when it will happen.

John Matthew’s induction into the Brotherhood will happen even though Wrath is blind and JM is mute.

Wrath has a scar from being shot.

Lucas will end up with someone but not sure it will be Abe’s daughter. Abe’s daughter will be mated, but she is not sure who her mate is.

We have not met iAm’s mate yet.

Payne might have to go back to keep charged otherwise could stop being able to heal others.

Will Xhex have issues when Murhder returns? No because JM would skin Murhder alive if he touched Xhex.

Autumn is not Throe’s sister. Throe’s sister is lynchpin of two of the favorite characters in the series.

We will see more of Rehv and Ehlena in the future.

Wrath is 6’6”. She said she was a little dyslexic when she put 6’9” in the book.

BDB Movie – Not a priority at all for her. She is more concerned about writing quality books and doesn’t want to worry about writing a screenplay.

Are we going to hear from the glymeria again? Yes

Wrath talked to Tohr about losing his young. She said she could see everything about it, but it was too hard to write.

Xcor leaving lesser body in parts for the humans to find will be important. Also the fact that he has flashed is fangs to humans. Seems like Jose and Butch might get some closure. Humans haven’t figured out that vamps are real. Xcor revealed single most important thing in Lover Reborn.

Butch as Manny’s brother – Manny will never be made into a vampire. Payne and Manny made the decision and Payne can keep Manny perma-preserved not matter what her powers are doing.

Vampires can not convert humans in the BDB world.

Will we ever find out who Manny’s father is? Ward isn’t sure. She isn’t sure if Manny’s father is the same man as Butch’s father or someone within the line. Another reason Manny won’t be made into a vampire.

Lassiter will fall in love.

Graphic Novels of the BDB – publisher owns the rights so it is up to them.

Since Jane is a ghost, how do she and V get it on? He rolls her in flour to f*ck her. Seriously, Ward was pretty much doubled over laughing as she said this.

Ward won’t tell us what is in the lockbox.

Wrath’s eyes – not sure if due to his mother being poisoned or if it was from inbreeding of the race to keep it pure.

SV & Omega’s father is the creator from the FA series.

The BDB compound has always been in a bit of a protective bubble. However, Xcor was able to get to it , so means it is possible for a raid on the mansion.

Asked if she created the Sympath’s barb and she said it just happens when they have sex she had nothing to do with it.

Wrath was able to see his mother in a dream, since he saw her could he possibly see LW at some point? Probably not.

Wrath’s mom came to him as payback for him coming to save her life.

Lassiter like women. He will get his own book, but he isn’t ready for it yet.

Assail selling drugs to the lessers puts him in a very bad position.

Ward would like to do more BDB interviews. Thinks they would be fun.

Xcor could get his hairlip fixed, but not a priority for him. How he looks is part of who he is.

The entire transcript of the Q&A is also on the JR Ward Facebook page.

She loves Assail’s twin cousins and says we will find out more about them. Twins will have love interest, but not the same woman.

Assail and Sola will be reunited at some point.

The BDB series is open ended. She will keep writing them for as long as the readers want to keep reading them.

She wants to come back to Cincinnati for the next BDB signing and hopes it is back at the hotel again. Loves having it where people can stay.

Scene about the lie about V is the only scene too much to write.

Rehv and Shadows relationship will come out soon.

Lassiter does not save Eddie.
