Along Came Trouble

Along Came Trouble is the 2nd book in the Camelot series from Ruthie Knox. The publisher is Loveswept and the release date is March 11, 2013. From the author’s website.~

Ruthie Knox’s Camelot series continues in this sizzling eBook original novel, featuring two headstrong souls who bump heads—and bodies—as temptation and lust bring nothing but delicious trouble.

An accomplished lawyer and driven single mother, Ellen Callahan isn’t looking for any help. She’s doing just fine on her own. So Ellen’s more than a little peeved when her brother, an international pop star, hires a security guard to protect her from a prying press that will stop at nothing to dig up dirt on him. But when the tanned and toned Caleb Clark shows up at her door, Ellen might just have to plead the fifth.

Back home after a deployment in Iraq and looking for work as a civilian, Caleb signs on as Ellen’s bodyguard. After combat in the hot desert sun, this job should be a breeze. But guarding the willful beauty is harder than he imagined—and Caleb can’t resist the temptation to mix business with pleasure. With their desires growing more undeniable by the day, Ellen and Caleb give in to an evening of steamy passion. But will they ever be able to share more than just a one-night stand?

I was lucky enough to get an early copy of Along Came Trouble thanks to the publisher through NetGalley. I’m a huge fan of Ruthie Knox and was so excited to read more about the Clark family.

Have to say I fell for Caleb pretty quickly. He came home to help out his family and started his own security company. Caleb takes on the job of security for Jamie Callahan to protect Jamie’s sister Ellen, her son Henry, and his ex-girlfriend Carly. Ellen doesn’t thing she needs any security help from Caleb and is very hesitant to trust any men after her ex-husband lied and cheated on her for so many years. However, the attraction between Caleb and Ellen was there from the very beginning.

I loved that Caleb tried to fight his attraction to Ellen and keep their relationship strictly business. I loved even more that Ellen was willing to go after him and move their relationship to the next level. The chemistry between Caleb and Ellen was smoking hot, but you could feel how much they cared about one another even before either would admit it. I got how hesitant Ellen was to take their relationship from physical only to something more. Her ex had done a huge number on her and she really had never had anyone in her corner for most of her life. Her mom always put her brother Jamie first because of his talent and until Caleb, Ellen was never put first.

The secondary romance between Jamie and Carly had me laughing out loud at times and wanting to throw things at Jamie at other times. While he messed up with Carly in a big way, he won me over when he worked to win her back.

Along Came Trouble is another winner from Ruthie Knox. She gives her readers the sexy love story they have come to expect and love. I can’t wait to read Katie Clark’s story, Flirting with Disaster in June 2013. For more information about the Camelot series or other books by Ruthie Knox, check out her website.

Now onto the excerpt!

Being in his arms, being touched by Grayson was nothing like any lovemaking she’d ever experienced before. Yes, Lori knew how to make sure she came while in bed with a man, whether he was focused on her pleasure or not, but with Grayson she knew she wouldn’t need to do one damn thing to make sure she was satisfied. He was still wearing his wet flannel shirt and thick jeans, and the contrast of the rough fabric against her bare skin as she writhed against him only inflamed her more. But then he was putting his hands on her waist and holding her back from his body. She didn’t know why, couldn’t get her brain to process a single reason he might not want to keep touching her, until she felt the heat of his gaze all across the surface of her skin and suddenly understood. No one had ever looked at her like this, as though she was a gift he’d never expected to find waiting for him…and he couldn’t think of one thing he’d done to deserve it. Needing to touch him, she tried to move back into his arms, but he held her where she was. “I’m not done looking yet,” he growled. Even in lovemaking he was bossy, and that realization should have made her pull away, should have reminded her that they were no good together. Instead, it made her want him with a fierceness that stunned her. For Lori, life had always been a journey of jumping from one high peak to another, with the occasional dip into a shallow valley. At least, until everything had come to a head after Victor had chipped away at her piece by piece over the past year and a half. She’d gotten lost in a hole so dark and deep she hadn’t been able to see a way out. And yet, despite her experience with such extremes, she’d never felt such a powerful craving for anyone, or anything, in her life. Doubts, concerns, worries―none of them had a chance against this craving, against the hunger that was eating her up from moment to moment. Oh yes, she loved the way Grayson looked at her, but she needed to have his hands, his mouth, on her, too. And thank God, a few moments later, he was moving his hands up from her waist to cup her breasts with such reverence that the gentle heat of his touch stole what was left of her breath away. “I can’t believe you’re here. That you’re real. That you’re really this beautiful.”

Night Blade

Night Blade (Colbana Files) is the 2nd book in the Colbana Files series from author J.C. Daniels.  The official release date is set for March 4, 2013 and the publisher is Shiloh Walker, Inc. From the author’s website.~

Kit Colbana is always biting off more than she can chew. She has a knack for finding trouble. This time, though, trouble finds her. Someone from her past drops a case into her lap that she just can’t refuse…literally.

People on the Council are dying left and right and she’s been requested to investigate the deaths. The number one suspect? Her lover, Damon. If she doesn’t clear his name, he gets a death sentence. Even if she succeeds? They still might try to execute him. Oh, and she’s not allowed to tell him about the case, either.

The stakes are high this time around, higher than they’ve ever been. Kit may be forced to pay the ultimate price to save her lover’s life…a price that could destroy her and everything she loves.

I was lucky enough to get an early copy of Night Blade from NetGalley thanks to the publisher. I fell in love with this series while reading Blade Song and have been counting down the days until Night Blade would be released.

Kit really is one of my favorite characters ever. She is so strong, yet has a vulnerability about her as well. I love the romance between Damon and Kit, and love how each will do anything to protect the other. When Kit’s friend Justin hires her to look into the suspicious deaths, she is forced to do everything possible to find the evidence to save Damon, while not telling anyone what is going on thanks to a binding charm placed on her by Justin. We got to see many of Kit’s friends and Damon’s pack mates over the course of this book. We also got to see my least favorite character in the series, Jude again. Have to say the hatred I felt for Jude before only grew with this book.

There is always so much information in a J.C. Daniels book, I feel like I would be giving away some major plot points if I say too much about the book. I will say I absolutely loved this book even as much of the story absolutely ripped my heart out. I love this series so much, I’m already dying to read the next book in the series, Broken Blade to see what happens next with Kit, Damon and everyone else in this series.

Crossing Lines

Crossing Lines (Heat Wave) is the 3rd book in the sexy Heat Wave series from Alannah Lynne. The official ebook release date was January 27, 2013. From the author’s website.~

The world's best-stocked toy drawer can only take a gal so far. Bored with her current assortment of vibrating, plastic pieces, building inspector Sam Wallace decides to add a new sex toy to her collection: Kevin Mazze. The sexy Italian is more than happy to help her live out her long-held sexual fantasies, and trusting him with her body is easy. Trusting him with her heart, however, is not... especially when he commits an unforgiveable sin.

Myrtle Beach developer Kevin Mazze is one of the good guys. He's spent his life always doing the right things and making those around him happy. When he meets the woman of his dreams, at the worst possible time, he finds himself making bad choices in the name of good and crossing lines he never thought he would... while praying she never finds out.

Product Warning: "Crossing Lines" contains adult language and adult situations, such as spanking, sex toys, anal play, and a fantasy threesome.

I’ve been a fan of Alannah Lynne since I read her first story Reaction Time years ago. I’ve loved all the books in the Heat Wave series and can only say Lynne delivers again with a hot and sexy love story with Crossing Lines.

I loved both Kevin and Sam from the moment they appeared on the page. I especially loved how sweet Kevin was to Sam’s little girl. The sexual chemistry in this book is off the charts! Loved how both Kevin and Sam were more than ready to explore all of their fantasies together. Have to say the fantasy threesome was one of the hottest scenes in the book.

Alannah Lynne’s books are perfect for readers who love a story with great relationships along side smoking hot love scenes. While I think this book can be read as a stand-alone, I think both Savin’ Me and Last Call are so wonderful, you should read them first. For more information about this book or any other from Alannah Lynne, check out her website.

Alannah is chatting at Mo’s Book Buzz on Wednesday evening February 27 at 9:00 PM EST and giving away one (1) $25 gift card to one lucky person. The link for the chat is below.

The Best Man

The Best Man is book one in the Blue Heron series from Kristan Higgins. The official release date is February 26, 2013 and the publisher is Harlequin HQN. From the back cover.~

SOMETIMES THE BEST MAN IS THE ONE YOU LEAST EXPECT…

Faith Holland left her hometown after being jilted at the altar. Now a little older and wiser, she's ready to return to the Blue Heron Winery, her family's vineyard, to confront the ghosts of her past, and maybe enjoy a glass of red. After all, there's some great scenery there….

Like Levi Cooper, the local police chief—and best friend of her former fiancé. There's a lot about Levi that Faith never noticed, and it's not just those deep green eyes. The only catch is she's having a hard time forgetting that he helped ruin her wedding all those years ago. If she can find a minute amidst all her family drama to stop and smell the rosé, she just might find a reason to stay at Blue Heron, and finish that walk down the aisle.

I was lucky enough to get a review copy from NetGalley thanks to the publisher. I’ve been a fan of Kristan Higgins for years, and have to say without a doubt that The Best Man is my favorite book by her.

I fell in love with Levi from the moment he appeared on the page. He is my favorite hero in all the Kristan Higgins books I’ve read to date. I really liked Faith from the very beginning as well. Just about cracked up that she had no idea her fiancé was gay. Faith’s dating antics are the stories that all single women fear might happen to them…gay men, married men pretending to be single, and even guys who think all women want what is written in the 50 Shades books. I could feel the chemistry between Levi and Faith from the very beginning. The fact that he is the one who made Jeremy step up and tell Faith the truth adds to the tension between Faith and Levi. I did totally get Levi still being jealous of Faith and Jeremy being friends. Kind of made me laugh since Levi had known Jeremy was gay from the minute he met him, but still totally got it.

I loved Faith and Levi as a couple. While they didn’t really have much in common, they really did work perfectly for me. They had the best chemistry and I loved how protective they were of each other.  Not that they didn’t have some bumps in their road to true love, but I absolutely loved how they worked it out. I loved the romance of the love scenes between Levi and Faith. Not that there wasn’t heat, but really more romantic to me.

I think Kristan Higgins fans will fall in love with her new series just like I did. Also think it is a great series to start with if you’ve never read a Kristan Higgins book before. I loved The Best Man and I’m super excited about this new series and can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the Blue Heron series.
