Latest update from doctor and Mamma Mia

I saw my breast doctor this morning and he said the lump was a fibroadenoma and it was benign. However, the tissue around it was diagnosed as Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia. He compared it so seeing smoke before you see fire. There are no breast cancer cells currently, but they could form. So I go see a medical oncologist on 3/24 to talk about our treatment options and what types of meds(would take everyday for 5 years) might help the cells go away and will have to have a diagnostic mammogram in August and again 6 months later to make sure everything comes out ok. If both mammograms come back ok, then I go to only having mammograms every year. He told me we would keep a really good eye on everything and told me to do monthly breast exams and call him if I feel anything that doesn't feel right. I'll post another update once I meet with my new doctor and find out what course of treatment(how many meds) we are taking.

On a fun note, I get to go see Mamma Mia tonight at TPAC here in Nashville. I've always loved Abba's music, I really loved the movie, and can't wait to see the play tonight. I'm meeting my uncle and 2 aunts for dinner and then we are heading over to the show. Thinking I might just have to listen to some Broadway tunes this afternoon to get me really ready for the show.

Hey Liza, YAY on the lump being benign...Take care of yourself and keep a regular check up on the tissue surrounding it okay! You are so BRAVE!!!

I hope you enjoy Mamma Mia. It is on my to see list. I have the movie with Meryl and I watch it ALOT!! I love ABBA's music too. My first introduction was to ABBA Gold when I was in college.

On another note, I hope I get to see you in Nashville this summer.

Peace and love,
Paula R.

I guess I'll really know more after the 24th, but I really trust my doctor so I'm ok right now.

I actually remember ABBA from the 70's. Granted I was pretty young, but my sister had most of the albums. I do have the ABBA Gold cd loaded on my ipod and listen to it all the time.

I can't wait to see everyone this summer. I'm taking the time off for RWA, just have to figure out if I can afford to go to any of the stuff. Luckily, I only live about 15 minutes from the Opryland Hotel. :)

Ooooh, Liza - you're thinking of going to RWA? If you can't fork over the money for the whole conference, you MUST at least attend the Literacy Signing on Wednesday night. It's free to get in, and is open to the public (NOT just conference attendees) and the only cost to you is whatever books you buy. All proceeds go to charity and there is always an obscene number of authors signing.

Also, when it gets closer to July -the bloggers that are going will probably end up planning some sort of "get together." Last year we went out to dinner and then hung out in the hotel bar. At the very least, we need to have a "bar night" again.

Wendy, I'm not a member of RWA, so I guess I have to join before I could even register. I plan on going to the book signing on Wednesday night and will put lots of books in my budget for the signing. Would love to meet everyone for dinner of just to hang out. I only live about 15 minutes from the hotel, so I'll have to decide if I want to stay at the hotel(or one a little cheaper near it) or just drive from my house.

Liza: You don't need to be a RWA member to attend the conference. You would have to pay the non-member registration fee, which is $75 more - but that difference is actually cheaper than the cost of general membership (which I think is around $100?). My advice is to look over the program when it becomes available online and see if the cost of attending the whole conference will be "worth it" for you. Some readers say yes, and others say no :)

Oooooh, I vote for sleeping in your own bed. Plus you'll save $$ if you don't have to get a hotel room :)

If I sleep at home, I can probably swing paying for the conference. Will just let it by my "staycation" this year.

Well...this is like a mixed review isn't it? :( I'm glad that the lump itself is benign but I'm sorry it wasn't totally great news and there's nothing at all that you have to do.

I know from what all I've gone through with Charles, those tiny little "buts" mixed in with the great news seem to just scream at you.

You just want to hear, "Everything looks great, there's nothing in the world to worry about."

I'll continue prayers that the doctor is just being super cautious and that there isn't anything to worry about. Just bi-annual mamograms and that they'll be clear as can be!!

Hugs hugs!!

Jodie, I really was expecting to be told I would just have to come back a couple of times a year for ultrasounds or mammograms. I must admit I freaked out a bit when I first heard my doctor say I needed to see a medical oncologist. However, if this treatment will keep the abnormal cells from becoming cancer cells, I'll do whatever they say. Now I've decided to just wait to find out what the doctor says before I really worry about anything else.

Very promising news, but it's good that they are staying on top of things and using preventive measures. Good for you for following doctor's orders. As the months go by, I hope we continue to get more positive feedback from you :)
