Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between…

Excerpt:
 “What is that?”
Adrian’s voice startled me. For a second, I was disoriented, the dream clinging to me as it always did. Yes, I was in a car, but I wasn’t the unknown woman driving away from her baby. That wasn’t real. The glare Adrian leveled at my chest was, though.
“Is that a mirror?” He sounded horrified.
I looked down. My locket was open, the mirrored side facing me. At some point while I was sleeping, I must’ve opened it. Adrian’s hand shot out, but this time, I was too fast for him.
“Don’t you dare,” I snapped, holding it out of his reach. “It’s the only picture I have of my sister after you left everything I own back at that hotel in Bennington!”
He lunged again, actually letting go of the steering wheel to reach the side of the car where I held it. With a sharp yank, he wrested the locket from my hands. I tried to snatch it back, but he shoved me into my seat with one hand, finally grabbing the steering wheel with the other.
“Are you crazy?” I shrieked. “You could’ve gotten us killed!” If this hadn’t been a lonely stretch of desert road, our careening into the next lane might’ve had permanent consequences.
“You’re going to get yourself killed,” was his chilling response. Then, still pinning me to my chair with that single hand, he held my locket up.
I gasped. Something dark poked out of the small mirror, like a snake made of blackest smoke. It disappeared when Adrian smashed the mirror against the steering wheel, but an eerie wind whistled through the car, ruffling my hair and stinging my nostrils with its acrid scent.
Adrian muttered a word in that unknown language, and I didn’t need a translator to tell me it was a curse.
“What was that?” My voice was hoarse.
He threw me a pitying glance, which frightened me even more. If he wasn’t angry, we must really be screwed.
His next words proved that. “Brace yourself, Ivy. You’re about to meet a demon.”

Beyond Series Book 5

I'm a huge fan of Kit Rocha! I was so excited to get a review copy of Beyond Addiction and pretty much dropped everything to read it.

Trix has always been a little bit of a mystery to me. I knew she had started over 4 years ago, but hadn't really though about who she might have left behind. However, everything changed when she was kidnapped and taken back to Sector Five. Trix and Finn see each other for the first time in 4 years.

I loved Finn and Trix as a couple. They had amazing chemistry from the moment they saw each other again. Finn is once again in protective mode of Trix (previously Tracy)and will do everything in his power to get her safely back to Sector Four and the O'Kanes. Finn really doesn't worry about himself, but even after 4 years, Trix still has feelings for him and wants him to be safe as well. I really saw Trix as being just as protective of Finn as he was of her.

Finn must prove himself to remain in Sector Four, as Trix can only protect him so much. The cage fight scene is one of my favorites in the book. Things are changing in all the sectors and Finn must find his place in Four so he can stay with Trix. I loved watching them grow closer the more time they spent together. Their connection and chemistry only grew stronger the more time they spent together. Honestly, the sex scenes are as hot as I've come to expect from the books in this series. I loved we got to spend time with so many of my favorite characters in this book. The scenes with Lex and Dallas are another favorite for me.

My only issue was I felt like at times, Finn didn't see Trix as strong as I saw her. I think their past colored his view of her in the present. I also think he was a little too willing to put himself in harms way in the name of protection.

Overall I loved this book a great deal. I'm excited to see what will happen to the Sectors and Eden in the next book.

Up to Me
Shore Secrets series Book 1

I was lucky enough to be given a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I'm a huge fan of Christi Barth and was excited to start reading her new series.
I loved Ella from the very first page. She has had to heavily rely on her friends and her hometown since her parents were killed 3 years ago, yet is still such a strong person. I could tell that Ella didn't really trust herself completely to make decisions when the book started. It started to change once she met Gray.
Gray was visiting Ella's hotel to establish if it was a good investment for his company to take over. Of course, he didn't let anyone know that was his real reason for his vacation. I loved Gray and Ella together from the moment they met. They had great chemistry and even with Gray's lie between them, I wanted them to work as a couple. I honestly felt like Gray helped Ella to find the strength she had always had and Ella helped Gray to be more human. I also felt like when Gray befriended Ella's friends, he found the first real friends in his life. I knew it would be an issue when Gray's secrets came out, and I completely understood Ella's reaction. Ella showed once again how strong she really was as she stepped up to take care of her hotel and herself. Gray has much to grovel about to make thing right with Ella, and I loved that he showed her how much he not only loved her, but understood her hometown to try and win her back.
Up to Me is a wonderful start to a new series. I'm excited to see each of Ella's friends get their own stories.

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7)

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear…

I was lucky enough to be given a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I can't thank my friend Jen at That's What I'm Talking About enough for introducing me to this series. I've read the entire series since April, and now will be like all the other Kate Daniels fans waiting for the next book.

So Jen and I read Magic Breaks at the same time, though she was able to finish way before me. I knew this could be a tough read based upon rumors I'd read before read, text I'd get from Jen while reading, and my reaction as I read. I'll be totally honest and say I felt like the first 30% of the book moved really slowly. In fact it was almost a struggle to get through that section of the book. However, once I cleared the 30% mark, I couldn't read fast enough.

I still love Kate as much as ever. Didn't really feel like we got enough time with Kate and Curran, but I loved the time we did get with them together. Big changes occur in this book for the world that has been built. I don't really want to give away any spoilers, so I'll just say I personally love where the world is going. Without giving away too much, I can say I loved getting to spend time with my favorite shifters, and even have respect for Ghastek now. In fact, he actually is one of my new favorite characters in the series. I loved that we were able to learn about his past.

I don't think I'm giving anything away to say I hate Hugh with a passion still and am totally intrigued by Roland. Hugh is the type of character I love to hate. He has some of the best dialogue in the book with Kate. I really want to help Kate stab Hugh in the heart. Roland has been talked about since the first book and I now have a need to know even more about him. I’m pretty excited to see where Roland fits in with all the changes that have happened.

Ilona Andrews has quickly become one of my favorite authors and I can’t thank my friends enough for sharing this series with me. I also loved we were given a novella length story following Magic Breaks. Magic Tests is from Julie’s POV and takes place before Magic Breaks. I really like the character Julie and can’t wait to see where Ilona Andrews takes this character in the future.
