I was lucky enough to get a review copy thanks to the publisher through NetGalley. I'm a huge fan of Shiloh Walker and have loved each of the stories in her Secrets & Shadows series.

I really enjoyed Darker Than Desire. I knew the final book would have to be David’s and can only say it was totally worth the wait. I loved David and Sybil as a couple. She calmed him as no one had even been able to in his life. Sybil is such a strong character and ended up being one of my favorites in the series. I loved that she knew who David was from the very beginning and accepted him for himself. Whether David was going by his real name or Caine Yoder, he was still the man Sybil loved.

David has been through hell and back and not only survived, but become a whole person. Not that he sees his life that way. Honestly without Sybil in his life I’m not sure David would have survived everything. She gives him a strength he doesn’t see in himself. The romance between David and Sybil gave this very dark story a bit of happiness for the readers.

I have to say there were a few surprises for me in this book. I didn’t realize the connection David had to another main character before it was revealed and it made me want to go back and re-read the other stories to see what I had missed. I also didn’t figure out who had been the one killing the men who were involved in the abuse until it was revealed. I have to say well done on both counts to Ms. Walker as I usually can figure out the who-done-it early in a book or a series of books.

Darker Than Desire is in no way a light read. The subject matter is very hard to read and it was another rough read for me. However, it was so well done, I really enjoyed this story and series.
