Excerpt

Death.

Heartache.

Vengeance.

This isn’t
a tale for the tender-hearted, the judgmental, or those who refuse to think
outside the box and look at the broader picture. Those who think that
everything is black and white. Simple. Cut and dry.

It’s not.
There’s always shades of gray.

It’s easier
to say “I’d never” when you’re sitting safely at home with the people you love
most right by your side. When grief hasn’t woven itself so deeply in the fabric
of your DNA that it can never be unraveled. There can be no separation. And
even if you try, it would only result in you becoming a frayed and tangled
mess.

It’s easy
to say you’d never walk the treacherous moral tightrope. But you aren’t the one
who plummeted to the depths of hell, littered with the agony of loss and the
anger of injustice, and had to claw your way out.

This story
isn’t scrawled in bold black ink on pristine white pages. Marred, torn, and
blood-spattered, its chapters hold deep gouges inflicted by betrayal.

This story
is about a woman who had everything taken from her.

And how she
took it all back.

Liza's Review:

I've come to love the Black's Bandits series every bit as much as the Hostile Operations Team series and the SEAL Team series of books from Lynn Raye Harris. I've wanted Colt and Angie to get together since we first met them and can only say it was totally worth the wait!

I loved Black Out from start to finish. I literally hated to put this book down as I was reading and really wished I could have read non-stop until I was finished. There has always been chemistry between Colt and Angie, and the fact their best friends Jace and Maddy are in a relationship, and keep throwing them together made me laugh out loud. I honestly loved the growth of Angie's character so much over this series. She really didn't seem that strong when we first met her in in Black List. I felt like she slowly was progressing to a strong woman, and she absolutely blew me away with her strength by the end of Black Out.

I have loved Colt from the first. Seriously the strong and yummy men Ian Black has working for him are just too Alpha for words...but in a really good way. Colt has the protective instinct I feel like all the men in these books have, and he wants to protect Angie from day one. I kinda loved the butted heads a bit in the beginning, but also loved Angie was stronger each passing day she spent with Colt. The chemistry between Colt and Angie built from the moment they met, and only got stronger after they made love for the first. Seriously all the happy sighs for this couple.

The suspense element was very strong in this story, and had a different feel from some of the other books in the series. It started from the very first page and I was pretty much on the edge of my seat trying to piece all the puzzle pieces together. I love when a book keeps me guessing, and Black Out did in spades. I also have to say I loved the time we got to spend with Ian Black. Seriously I'm counting down the minutes until we get his book! It's like I'm waiting for Mendez's book all over again (which was more than worth the wait)!!!

Black Out was definitely another winner from Lynn Raye Harris. Honestly, it is one of my favorite books I've ever read from her. I highly recommend this book and series to all fans of romantic suspense. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Nikki's Review:

Wow. This books was...a lot. A.L. Jackson has gutted me with this one. Jesus. I’m babbling here, but I’m absolutely blown away by Kiss the Stars.

I want to curl myself around the hero, Leif, and take away all his hurt and demons. His pain radiated off of the pages like a living, breathing thing. Mia West was his salvation.

The path to an HEA for Mia and Leif was riddled with crushing angst and searing sexiness. Quite the contradiction, eh? But that’s how it was. The attraction between them is a magnetic and the heat burns bright, but the angst swallows you. I loved all the feelings that were pulled from me. I loved being on that roller coaster of emotions.

While this book was mostly a contemporary romance, in my opinion, it did have a suspense element that was really well done. It fit the plot well and didn’t take away from the love story, which is important to me.

If you’ve read Ms. Jackson’s Bleeding Stars series, then you’ll be excited to know that you get to spend quite a bit of time with the boys of Sunder! Having Ash back on the page was amazing. It was like meeting up with old friends!

If you like angsty romance with likeable characters then you really need to read this one! Seriously, I was struck silent when it ended. I had to process things a bit. A.L. Jackson is brilliant story teller, and she never fails to pull me in deep.

Nikki’s Review:

What could be better than a hot cowboy from Texas? Not much, in my opinion. Well, maybe if that cowboy was also the Sheriff of a quaint little town, and he wears a Stetson!

Case is surly and mean when it comes to Aspen. He sees her as the person, and lawyer, who helped his ex-wife take away his little boy. Of course there are circumstances that he never knew about. Even though he has a crazy hate on for her, I couldn’t help but really like this guy. He was kinda like an onion, you had to peel back all his layers to get to the heart of him.

Aspen is trying to rebuild her life after leaving her husband, and dealing with the Sheriff who was once her childhood crush, but now hates her, is not on her list of fun things to do. Circumstances throw these two together and that’s when the sparks fly. And it wasn’t always the sexy kind.

I loved the push and pull that Case and Aspen had going on. It kinda made my head spin, but being kept on my toes makes things so much more interesting. You could really feel the anger radiating off of Case, but there was also some strong sexual tension simmering under all the that. The author did a great job in making the emotions feel almost tangible.

I really enjoyed watching the relationship between the hero and heroine evolve. There was so much history and hurt surrounding them, and it seemed to cling tightly. There was a ton of character growth in this book. All of their vulnerabilities were laid bare. I think at the end of the day, they were just what the other needed. Even if it took them a long time to figure it out.

This is the first book I’ve read by Jay Crownover, but it won’t be the last. I’m so excited to read the next installment in this series! Good thing I have the ARC of Unforgiven waiting for me, because patience is not one of my virtues.
