Lover Mine is the newest book in JR Ward’s NYT best-selling Black Dagger Brotherhood series. From the inside cover flap.~
In the darkest corners of the night in Caldwell, New York, a conflict like no other rages. Long divided as a terrifying battleground for the vampires and their enemies, the city is home to a band of brothers born to defend their race: the warrior vampires of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him. After he was taken in by the Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was-or his true identity. Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny. As a vicious personal vendetta takes John into the heart of the war, he will need to call upon both who he is now and who he once was in order to face off against evil incarnate.
Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between herself and John Matthew. Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow the male of worth to fall prey to the darkness of her twisted life. When fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.
I read Lover Mine as soon as the book was released in April. I’ve held off writing anything until now because I really didn’t think I could say anything that hadn’t already been said. I love the BDB series and think the WARDen totally delivered with John Matthew’s book. Yes, we had to wait a bit before John Matthew and Xhex found one another, but I think it only made their connection to one another even stronger. Both also had to share stories of their past to help bring them closer together. I will say I thought Xhex learned sign language a bit faster than I thought possible, but didn’t really distract me from the story. I also enjoyed reading about Darius and his past. Since he “died” so early in Dark Lover, I never really felt I knew enough about him. I don’t feel like I can really say much more without giving away tons of spoilers, and I already did that with my book signing post a few weeks ago.
The next BDB book will be Payne’s book and it should be released in April 2011, unless the release date is moved. The WARDen will also release Crave, the second book in her Fallen Angel series in October, so her readers will continue to get 2 books each year.
Hey Liza, you forgot to add...'nuff said...LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this book, and I was reading how some people felt disappointed and that they walked away after reading feeling different than they did for the other BDB books. I mean, isn't that great? It shows that the WARDen is handling her business, and not spitting out books that are the same. JM was such a totally different character to read about and I would expect his book to have a different feel as well. His being deaf puts a different flavor on it all especially since we, the readers get a view of him from mostly what's going on in his head as well as how other characters view him. I think if he was able to hear things would have been different, but the trademark BDB signatures were there.
People wanted her to focus more on the other Brothers and they moaned about the South Carolina "episodes" let's say. It might have been uncomfortable, but it gave us some insight into another Brother who will be playing a major role. The seemingly inconsequential characters at the house could in fact be the catalyst for the big "war" let's say, that is going to come to a head in future books. I do recall her saying there will be a major upheaval that takes place in Caldwell. Shouldn't she plant the seeds now?
They complained about Lash too, and I mean...seriously. Can't they figure out the whys and or the possibilities of what happens to him means? Sometimes, I just wonder what is going on in people's heads. Do they really want everything spelled out for them?
Sorry, I used your forum to vent a bit. I was just surprised to see the things that people moaned about when it comes to LM. The WARDen did her thing. I think this one was the best of the series. Maybe, it is because I like the emotional aspects of character development much more than many readers, but she knocked it out of the park.
Peace and love,

Her answer at the book signing about Lash was very much like your response. I had to laugh, since I really didn't need an iron-clad answer as to where Lash went. I figured since he was the Omega's son he went back to the Omega just like any other Lessor.
ReplyDeleteFYI-I agree that she knocked it out of the park with Lover Mine.
By the way, feel free to vent anytime. Venting about a subject always starts up a new conversation and I might see stuff I missed before.
ReplyDeleteThanks my friend. I hope you were able to fall asleep like a baby after your workout. Chat with you in the a.m.
ReplyDeleteHey just finished up a chat with Deidre Knight, agent slash author from The Knight Agency. Her new book in the Gods of Midnight series, Red Demon is out, and she had a chat with wonderful surprise guests. I almost had a heart attack when Gena Showalter showed up, then Jessica Andersen, who I knew about. I was like SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!! After they left, Carly showed up, and it was great. I was so excited to see her. The whole chat was fabulous. It lasted for about 2 and a half hours. Perfect!
Peace and love,
Paula R.
