A TASTE OF HEAVEN

Good little widow Sophia Brown always follows the rules. When the producer of a cooking competition requests an amuse-bouche, the chefs stick with proteins. Sauces. A savory concoction. She has only one shot to impress the judges on A Taste of Heaven. But in a moment of defiance, she creates an extraordinary dessert, one that combines both the bitter and the sweet, just like her own life.

That one bite changes everything.

After a year grieving for her dead husband, forty-seven-year-old Sophia is finally ready to break out of her shell. Unfortunately, there is a large, angry obstacle standing in her way. Scottish chef Elliott Adamson has a chip on his shoulder the size of Loch Ness, and he’s blocking her path to victory.

Spurred by her daughters, she embarks on a poignant adventure that takes her from the wildflower fields of Vermont to the wind-swept vista of North Berwick, Scotland. Fear, courage, and inspiration from unlikely places will mark this journey, and Sophia is determined to persevere until the very end.

Liza’s Review:

I have really enjoyed Penny Watson's books in the past and when I was given the chance to read her newest release early, I jumped at it.

I really loved both main characters from the very beginning. Sophia is so laid back and go with the flow while Elliott is all it's my way of the highway. I just knew they would find a way to work together, and not only in the kitchen. I really felt like Sophia came into her own as she competed on the cooking show A Taste of Heaven. Yes Sophia went with the flow a bit in the beginning, but she found her voice and improved her mad cooking skills the longer she was on the show with Elliott. I think Elliott learned from Sophia and even became a better chef because of their time on the show. I loved Sophia and Elliott started being called Beauty and the Beast as I totally saw Sophia see past Elliott's beast-like actions and it totally worked for them as a couple. I loved the chemistry between Sophia and Elliott both in the kitchen and the bedroom. They fed off of one another and just meshed so well to me. I felt like Elliott's character grew the most over the course of the story, as he started to be open to more ideas from others. I felt like Sophia always had the strength she showed to the end, yet had lost herself a bit in being a care-giver for so many years. Sophia and Elliott brought out the best in each other.

I really enjoyed A Taste of Heaven. It was a really fast, fun sweet and sexy read. The story totally kept me engaged and I even would love to see some of the secondary characters get their own stories in the future.
