STEALING SECOND

Katherine Whitton doesn’t purposely avoid men and relationships, but she doesn’t mind that side effect of immersing herself in her job with the San Francisco Blaze. Years ago she was betrayed by her one true love, and she’s never fully recovered, though she’s tried by building a new life in a city she loves.

It’s taken seventeen years for Tom Morgan to get over Katie—Katherine now. Sober now and faced with the incredible opportunity to manage the Blaze, he thinks he’ll finally be able to handle working with this beautiful woman without falling to pieces…as long as she doesn’t get too close.

A crisis with the team's star pitcher forces Tom and Katherine to put in long hours together. Years of animosity melt away as the sexual tension between them ignites. But it’ll take more than scorching kisses to avoid the wreckage of the past. And neither Tom nor Katie are sure they’re ready to trust each other or risk their hearts for a second chance at happiness.

Liza's Review:

I'm a huge fan of Alison Packard and absolutely love her Feeling the Heat series. I've been a baseball fan my entire life and including my love of baseball with my love of romance means I get two of my favorite things in one book.

I loved both Katie and Tom from the first time we met them both. I knew there was history between them, and was glad we learned their history in Stealing Second. I have to say I loved Katie and Tom as a couple. They had the best chemistry between them and they worked very well together at work. I loved they could still feel the chemistry and were drawn to one another much like when they were teens.

I figured out pretty early on who had been in on keeping them apart when they were teenagers, and knew it was going to break Katie's heart when she found out. I did think it was a little odd that in the 17 years they had been apart, neither had ever tried to find out what had happened to keep the other away. I got the anger each felt with the other disappearing, but figured one or the other would have tried to contact the other at college. I also felt like Tom was too much of an ass when he found out something from the past. Even with his history on the subject, I felt like he was way too rough on Katie. Those were really my only issues with the story and while I had these issues, I don't feel like it made the story any less enjoyable for me.

Stealing Second was a very enjoyable read for me. I felt like it had the perfect balance of sports and romance and think fans of both will really enjoy it. I'm even more excited to discover Ms. Packard is currently working on the next book in this series.
