Where did you get the idea for the Hostile Operations Team?
Well, I grew up in a military family and then I married a
military man, so I spent a lot of time on military bases in my life. There’s
just something about a man in uniform, isn’t there? Joining the military is a
big decision, and it comes with a lot of benefits and a lot of challenges. The
kind of men and women who stay, who go to war and defend this country when
called upon to do so, are deserving of our respect.
But there’s another kind of warrior, and those are the ones
who fight the battles no one ever hears about. The kind of warrior who goes
after the terrorists or the pirates or the warlords, and who doesn’t do it for
the glory. I wanted to write about a
team of Special Operators who do just that. Who keep us safe even when we don’t
know it, and who will continue to do so until there’s no breath left in their
bodies. What makes someone willing to sacrifice everything in order to keep the
rest of us safe? I don’t know, but I love exploring that question in my books!
Do you have a specific number of books in mind for the HOT
series?
I don’t! Originally,
I conceived the idea as a 3 to 6 book series that I would hopefully sell to New
York and they would publish them for me. But then self-publishing came along,
and I have the freedom to do what I want. I will write as many of these books
as I have ideas for. Right now, I’m working on the fifth story, and I have
ideas for a sixth and seventh. And a novella for Colonel Mendez, who seems to
be a fan favorite!
Do you have a favorite hero you’ve written?
I always love the one I’m currently writing. At this moment,
it’s Jack Hunter. But Kevin MacDonald in DANGEROUSLY HOT has a special place in
my heart. I wrote the first chapter of his story almost seven years ago now.
And then I put it away for a long time, while I wrote twenty books for
Harlequin, and hoped I’d get to finish it some day. That day came when I
decided to self-publish the series. And I’m thrilled!
I know you got your publishing start with Harlequin. How
cool is it to be able to say you are a Harlequin writer (those were the first
romances I read)?
It’s very cool!
Harlequin Presents were the first romances I ever read, so to be writing
those very romances I loved so much is a thrill I will never get over. I read
Penny Jordan when I was a teenager, and now I write the same kinds of books.
It’s unbelievably rewarding to be a Presents author!
Do you tend to plot your books for fly by the seat of your
pants?
I fly by the seat of my pants, but I’m getting somewhat
better at sketching out a direction. I’ve started using Scrivener and it gives
me the ability to write in chunks and move those chunks around if I need to
(though I’m pretty linear, really). I love that! I also make lots of notes
about what could happen next. And I brainstorm with a couple of other writers,
and they help me to think in terms of stages and turning points.
Do you have a Pinterest board with pictures of your heroes

Hot Pursuit - Book 1
The last man she ever wanted to see…
Evie Baker’s luck just ran out. Thanks to an ex-partner with organized crime ties, she’s lost her restaurant, her money, and nearly all her self-respect. Forced to return to her hometown and work as a shampoo girl in her mother’s salon, she doesn’t think her luck can get any worse.
But then someone starts shooting at her, her sullen baby sister is suddenly missing, and the high school heartthrob who stole her heart—and her virginity—is the only man big enough and bad enough to help.
Might be the only one who can save her…
Captain Matt “Richie Rich” Girard can’t afford to get involved. He’s already on the verge of a court-martial after a Top Secret op gone wrong, and he’s been ordered to stay out of trouble while he’s home for his sister’s wedding.
But when Evie’s ex-partner turns up dead, staying out of trouble is the last thing on Matt’s mind. He failed Evie once before; he can’t fail her again. If he’s going to protect her from a killer, and find her sister before time runs out, he’ll have to risk his entire future—and both their lives—to do it.

When someone threatens Georgie’s life again, Sam will do anything necessary to keep her safe. Even if it means spending the next few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her.
Sam might be used to denying himself what he wants, but he’s about to find out that being cooped up with Georgie will push him to the limit. And maybe beyond.

HOT operator Kevin “Big Mac” MacDonald rescued Lucky the last time. And then he walked away when he couldn’t be what she needed. When Lucky married his teammate, Kev knew it was for the best. But now Marco is dead and Lucky is no longer safe.
When Kev and Lucky team up to capture a terrorist, they’ll have to pretend to be man and wife on an explosive military mission to a war-torn nation. With time running out and the fate of the world hanging in the balance, Kev and Lucky play a perilous game of cat and mouse with a madman during the day.
