ROUGH RIDE (SOUTH FLORIDA RIDERS #5)

Andre Smoke is the newest arrival to the Riders, an incredibly private defensive player who is feared and revered in the NFL. His trade to South Florida is a little unexpected in the league, but Smoke has his personal reasons for heading to the tropics to play football. Well, one reason. Her name is Kendall Collins and her big brother, Smoke's lifelong best friend, needs someone he can trust to keep an eye on her...without her knowing it, of course.

Loyal and protective, Smoke agrees...but one look at Kendall and things get a little complicated. The sassy designer is definitely not the awkward fourteen-year-old in braces that he remembers, and the attraction between them burns as hot as his name. Smoke hires Kendall to renovate his historic Miami home...but the plan to keep an eye on her soon turns into a desire to keep his whole body on her. Before long, Smoke is falling hard for his best friend's sister who is determined to fix more than his house...she's getting awfully close to his damaged heart and just might have to give it to her.

Liza's Review:

Breezie Bennett is back with another wonderful story in her South Florida Riders series with Rough Ride. Andre Smoke was recently traded to the South Florida Riders. I loved him from the moment he first appeared on the page, and was so excited to get his story with Rough Ride.

Andre Smoke has been best friends with Wyatt Collins since they were kids. When he is traded to South Florida, Wyatt asks Smoke to check in on his little sister Kendall who is living and working in South Florida now. Kendall is all grown up now, and nothing like the young 14-year-old who had such a huge crush on Smoke when they were growing up. Kendall now runs a renovation and redecorating business with her best friend and her husband, and the house Smoke has purchased is perfect for the HGTV house flip contest. As it is a perfect way to keep his eyes on Kendall, Smoke hires her to renovate his historic mansion.

I absolutely loved Smoke and Kendall’s story! I love the friends to lovers trope, and add in the older sibling’s best friend, and it is like catnip! I love that Kendall was still crushing on Smoke, even as an adult. However, my favorite part was how attracted Smoke was to Kendall from the moment he saw her again. Their chemistry was smoking hot, yet there was also a sweetness to them that I didn’t expect but absolutely loved. I loved they each seemed to get each other like no one else every had. Rough Ride gave me all the happy feels and I so wasn’t ready for the story to be over when it ended.

The South Florida Riders series has quickly become one of my favorite. Breezie Bennett gives her readers wonderful, sexy and funny stories with each new installment. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Bennett does with the next book in this series.

Liza's Review:

His Small-Town Girl is the first book I've read by Lacy Williams and the first book in her new Sutter's Hollow series. Both Molly and Cord have something from their pasts they are running from, and are reluctantly thrown together when Molly's truck breaks down on Cord's ranch. Cord is back in Sutter's Hollow to make the repairs needed to sell his grandmother's ranch and head back to Houston and his life.

I enjoyed His Small-Town Girl. It is a sweet contemporary romance. I liked both Molly and Cord, but did wish they each had been a bit more forthcoming with issues from their pasts. Cord was almost unlikeable when he first appeared on the page he was so gruff, and I was so glad to see he had way more heart as the story progressed. Molly seemed really timid at first, but I enjoyed watching her come out of her shell and I felt like she really came into her own by the end of the book. I did feel like the story moved really slowly at times, and wished Cord especially had shared his past sooner. He had lots of thoughts about his past, yet it was a bit vague and made the story slow down as I was trying to figure out why he acted the way he did through much of the story. I did end up liking Cord and Molly as a couple, and their story overall.

His Small-Town Girl was a good start to a new series. It introduced many characters I believe will appear in other books in the series. Fans who love sweet contemporary romances should totally give this book and author a try.

She has him just where she wants him...

Hot and Sexy, a steamy contemporary romance with off-the-charts chemistry from New York Times bestselling author Erika Wilde, is available now!

01 Hot and Sexy

Joelle Sommers is very good at her job as a PI and bail recovery agent, but she’s definitely out of her element when she arrests sexy businessman Dean Colter in a case of mistaken identity. Because unlike her usual fugitives, Dean is cooperative, accommodating, and hot as sin . . . and not at all guilty as charged.  But this bad boy isn’t so innocent either, and she finds it increasingly hard to resist his seductive charm, and their mutual attraction.

After years of working himself to the point of having no life outside the office, Dean Colter is in the mood for an adventure. But being kidnapped by a gorgeous bounty hunter—one he discovers is into bondage, to boot—isn't exactly what he had in mind. Still, it doesn’t take long for him to realize that being a willing captive has its advantages.

Jo might be the one with the handcuffs, but Dean's about to discover the key to unleashing the passionate, uninhibited woman beneath the tough, stubborn facade. And when he does, all bets are off.

“A timeless tale of love and survival amidst a lush backdrop teeming with greed and deceit.”--New York Times bestselling author Darynda Jones
A desperate alliance. . A struggle for survival. And a marriage of convenience with an epic twist of fate. . .

WILL THEIR LOVE STAND THE TEST OF TIME
Queen Euthalia has reigned over her island kingdom of Calanthe with determination, grace, and her magical, undying orchid ring. After she defied an empire to wed Conrí, the former Crown Prince of Oriel—a man of disgraced origins with vengeance in his heart—Lia expected the wizard’s prophecy to come true: Claim the hand that wears the ring and the empire falls. But Lia’s dangerous bid to save her realm doesn’t lead to immediate victory. Instead, destiny hurls her and Conrí towards a future neither could predict…

OR TEAR THEIR WHOLE WORLD APART?
Con has never healed after the death of his family and destruction of his kingdom—he’s been carefully plotting his revenge against his greatest enemy, Emperor Anure, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. When Lia’s spies gather intelligence suggesting that Anure is planning an attack against Calanthe, Con faces an agonizing choice: Can he sacrifice Lia and all she holds dear to destroy the empire? Or does his true loyalty exist in the arms of his beguiling, passionate wife—’til death do they part?

 EXCERPT
“Good morning, Conrí! I must congratulate myself—how did I know I’d find you here?”
I glanced at the wizard, not revealing that he’d surprised me and not bothering to return the empty pleasantries. I hadn’t asked him to find me. In fact, I’d come to the portrait gallery to be alone—not easy in the crowded and convivial court of Calanthe. “I don’t know, Ambrose. Probably one of the many dark arts you practice.”
Ambrose, cheerfully undaunted, shook his head with a smile. He’d decorated his light-brown curls with a garland of flowers in the Calanthean style, and he wore a deep-blue robe lavishly embroidered with glittering silver moons floating in a field of stars in pinprick jewels of every color imaginable. Even his familiar, Merle, a very large raven, sported a silver chain about his neck studded with small jewels that winked in even the dim light from the glass-paned, narrow slits of windows. The raven, perched on the enormous emerald stone topping the wizard’s staff, cocked his head at me and opened his beak in a croak that could be interpreted as a laugh.
“Ah, Conrí, I wouldn’t waste my prodigious magical talents on locating you when simple logic tells me you’d be lurking here in the shadows while Her Highness holds formal court.”
“Shouldn’t you be lurking in your tower, muttering spells over boiling cauldrons?”
Ambrose laughed. “You really know nothing at all of how wizardry and magic work.”
I only grunted, returning my gaze to studying the portrait above me. It was too much to hope that Ambrose would go away, but maybe if I ignored him he’d get bored of poking at me and spit out whatever he wanted to say and then get gone.
But no, he stepped up beside me, keeping his counsel for the moment, and gazed up also. The ornately framed portrait of Oriel’s last, doomed ruling family dominated this section of wall. That wasn’t just me, either. Anyone would be drawn to the portrait for its size and artistic execution, attracting the eye even among the many paintings that had been crowded into the gallery. The long arcade held hundreds, maybe thousands of drawings, etchings, and paintings. They hung shoulder-to-shoulder, like warriors out of history marching in frozen formation, relics of kingdoms scattered to ash.
Lia—and her father before her—had collected these works of art, smuggled out of the many forgotten empires and kingdoms, saving them from the self-styled Emperor Anure’s destruction and greed, bringing them to the island kingdom of Calanthe, to hang quietly in the shadows. It made sense, on one level, to keep the paintings in the dark, preserving them from the tropical sunlight, but a morbid part of me couldn’t help comparing the place to a tomb.
Of course, a tomb was the right location for interring this portrait among the others, along with the dead people it portrayed. My father, as broad-chested and vital as he’d been in my boyhood, stood behind my seated mother, both wearing the crowns of Oriel. He had one big hand braced on the back of her chair, the other on my shoulder. Or rather, on the boy prince of Oriel, a child who’d effectively died along with the rest of his family. That kid grinned with cocky confidence and the innocent joy of a stranger. Nothing at all like the man who looked back at me from Calanthe’s thousands of shining and unflinching mirrors.
I’d visited the painting enough times now that I could make myself look at my mother’s face, her light-brown eyes holding laughter and warmth. The painter had been the best for several kingdoms around—and she’d exactly captured my mother’s keen intelligence, her lips curved in a smile as if she might burst out laughing at any moment. My sister and I had inherited her black hair and tawny eyes, not our father’s bold blond, blue-eyed looks.
My sister . . . I hadn’t yet been able to make myself look at her face.
I tried. I visited the portrait several times a day as a kind of penance, and to test my will. It was the least I could do, when I’d survived and they’d all been consigned to unmarked graves, my mother and sister moldering when they should’ve been cleanly burned to ash. My sister stood between my father and mother, so I should be able to slide my gaze over a few inches from my mother’s face . . . but my will collapsed, the sick grief grabbing me, and I had to look away, taking a deep breath.
“There’s no bringing back the dead,” Ambrose said philosophically, though with a note of compassion in his voice. “Not those who’ve been dead a long time, anyway. It almost never works out well. I could tell you about—”
“Did I ask?” I retorted.
“I just thought I should mention,” he replied reproachfully, more of his usual bite to it. “Since you seem to have such a high opinion of my wizardry. In case your brooding and obsessive study of this painting led your thoughts in that direction.”
I set my teeth, resisting the urge to grind them. “I’m not brooding or obsessive. This is a good place to think. Normally no one bothers me here.” If I had to kick my heels in this oppressively cheerful paradise, growing softer with each wasted moment, I could at least contemplate next steps, anticipate Anure’s strategy to take his own revenge on Calanthe and her queen. “It’s not like I have anything else to do.”
“You could attend court, as consort to Her Highness,” Ambrose pointed out blandly, and I suppressed a growl of frustration. At least my throat hurt less, since Healer Jeaneth had been treating me—one positive of having time on my hands. My voice still sounded like a choked dog most of the time, however.
“Court.” I snarled the word. “I don’t get how Lia can waste time on diplomacy and posturing when she promised to discuss defense.”
“She does have a realm to govern.”
“She won’t if Anure arrives to destroy it while she drags her feet. The woman is uncommonly stubborn.”
“A perfect match for you.” Ambrose narrowed his eyes at my clenched fists. “Isn’t she gathering intelligence from her spies?”
I didn’t answer that. That’s what we waited on, theoretically, but I knew there were things Lia was avoiding telling me. I also suspected that she hoped it would all just go away. Both of us knew that Calanthe couldn’t withstand a full-out, devastating attack. When nothing happened immediately after our wedding, it seemed that Lia began to hope that nothing ever would.
I knew better. The painting helped remind me of all the dead waiting to be avenged—and what happened to those who fell before Anure’s might.

BEYOND JUST US (REMINGTON MEDICAL #5)

Synopsis

Remington’s most cynical doctor is about to get upended by two little words:
I do.

Tess Michaleson runs her ER like she runs her life—
no pretenses, no exceptions.
As a single mother, she can’t afford anything less.
As a woman who’s been burned by love?
She can’t believe in anything more.
Her son and her job are the center of her world.
That’s all Tess needs.

Until Declan Riley falls into her arms…
literally.

His tattoos and his Irish accent are enough to melt her panties
His diagnosis? That’s enough to break her heart.
But Tess can help him get the care he needs…

All she has to do is marry him.

Declan knows he should keep Tess at arm’s length.
What they have is temporary. Necessary.
And he knows from experience just
how dangerous getting close can be.

But the longer he’s around the smart, sexy doctor and her son,
the more Declan realizes
close isn’t enough.

He wants Tess. He wants it all.

Even if he has to do the one thing he swore he never would to have her.

From USA Today best-seller Kimberly Kincaid comes an older woman/younger man marriage-of-convenience story full of sizzle and sass. This full-length romance features an Irish American Air Force veteran-turned-model and a take-no-crap attending physician finding out if fairy tales really do come true.

Excerpt

“Ah, I do love wedding duty,” the judge said, not batting so much as a single lash at the fact that both Tess and Declan were clad in jeans and T-shirts or that one of their “witnesses” was still in diapers. “I’m Judge Esposito, and I’ll be presiding today. Shall we get started?”
“Yes, please,” Tess said. They went through a couple of legalities to establish that she and Declan were both who they claimed to be and that they had witnesses who were who they claimed to be.
Then Judge Esposito threw out a whammy. “Tess. Declan. You may join hands as you recite your vows.”
Oh, hell. She had just watched Charlie and Parker get (re) married. How had she forgotten this part?
Thankfully, Declan covered her hesitation by smoothly scooping up both of her hands. His fingers closed around hers with the perfect amount of pressure to let her know he was there, steady, but not so much that he overpowered her. It put her oddly at ease, and before Tess knew it, Judge Esposito was on to the ceremony. The words were boilerplate, and Tess had, of course, heard them before at her own failed wedding, not to mention a dozen more for family and friends. They got through the intention part easily enough, needing only to say “I do” when called upon. Tess even managed to repeat the judge’s words about richer or poorer and sickness and health, then slide the ring Connor had given her onto Declan’s finger, without much fanfare from her heart. She was a doctor. Sickness and health were the whole point.
But then it was Declan’s turn, and her heart delivered a completely unexpected bitch-slap before galloping through her chest.
“I, Declan, take you, Tess, to be my wife. To have and to hold”—he slid his right hand from her left to cup her chin in illustration, and making Charlie and Harlow and Tess’s traitorous lady bits sigh in unison. This is an act to make things look genuine. The words don’t really apply to you, she reminded herself sternly, meeting his gaze head-on as he continued with the script—“in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer”—Declan’s thumb swept over her cheek. God, he was really selling it—“and I promise my love to you. With this ring, I thee wed.”
He slipped the ring he’d chosen onto her finger, gathering her hands in his again as Judge Esposito took the lead.
“Love is the reason you’re here today, and it should be the core of your marriage.”
Tess’s pulse sped up. Speaking of words that didn’t apply. Still, this had to look legit, so she kept her expression steady, and—whew—Declan did the same.
“But it also will take trust,” Judge Esposito continued. “To know in your hearts you want the best for each other. It will take dedication, to stay open to one another; to learn and to grow together even when it’s not always so easy to do.”
The thump of her heartbeat pressed faster against her ears. “It will take faith, to be willing to go forward to tomorrow, never really knowing what tomorrow will bring. In addition, it will take commitment, to hold true to the journey you both now pledge to share together. Tess and Declan.” The judge smiled so warmly that for a tiny, split second, Tess felt a ribbon of warmth uncurl in her chest, too.
“In so much as the two of you have agreed to live together in matrimony, have promised your love for each other by these vows, I now declare you to be husband and wife.” Judge Esposito’s smile grew even bigger as he added,
“You may now kiss the bride.”

Liza's Review:

Beyond Just Us is the newest release in the Remington Medical series from Kimberly Kincaid. We finally get Dr. Tess Michaleson's book, and it was more than worth the wait!!!

Tess Michaleson is such a strong woman. She runs the Emergency Department at Remington Medical like a drill sergeant, and is always the first one to step up when any of her friends need a hand. She is a rock star mom after her deadbeat ex-husband gave up on their marriage and her need to help others is one of her strongest qualities. The fact that neither her ex-husband or her family see what a wonderful person she is made me really sad, but Tess had her Remington Medical family, and that is part of the reason I love this series so very much.

Declan Riley is Connor's best friend and hasn't really had the easiest life. His mother passes away right before he enlisted in the Air Force, and he really doesn't have any other family to speak of, so when he needs help, he heads to Remington Medical to check in with his best friend Connor. Declan became a romance novel cover model after leaving the Air Force due to a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. However, he has recently discovered his kidneys are starting to have reduced function and he is on borrowed time to stay off of dialysis while waiting for a kidney transplant. When Tess discovers there is a clinical trial that is perfect for Declan, she suggests they marry so her insurance will cover the trial since his VA benefits would reject the option.

I love a good marriage of convenience and it was done so very well in Beyond Just Us. First of all, there was an instant attraction between Tess and Declan from the moment they met each other, although Tess had been attracted to Declan from his cover model days already. First of all I loved that Declan stepped up right away to help out around Tess's house with cleaning and cooking to help make her life easier. I also loved that while he didn't seem to know much about babies at the beginning, he helped take care of Tess's son Jackson from the beginning. Seriously, is there anything sexier than a hot man taking care of a baby?!?!? After the hell Tess's ex had put her though, I loved how open Declan was about how hot he found her and how much he wanted her. Their chemistry was steam of your kindle screen smoking hot!!!

I've read and loved each of the books in the Remington Medical series and have to say Kimberly Kincaid absolutely knocked it out of the ballpark with Beyond Just Us. I've been a fan from the moment I read my first book by Ms. Kincaid, and Beyond Just Us is absolutely my favorite book she has ever written. It was emotional, funny, sweet, and sexy and it was exactly the book I needed in my life right now.
