Nikki’s Review:

I stumbled upon Mandy Baxter a short time ago, and I was quickly impressed with her writing. Her books are chalked full of hot, sexy alpha males and feisty heroines. I was really looking forward to digging into the 4 novellas contained in this book.

The Blackwell brothers are billionaires who have the world at their fingertips. They can have anything they want. So you can imagine their frustration when they have to work for the women who bring them to their knees. That alone was very entertaining! Mandy Baxter writes sultry, hot, sweaty sex that leaves nothing to the imagination! These brothers have many talents!

While I liked all the stories in this book, I most enjoyed Ryder and Lara's. Why did I like theirs best? Cowboys! Ryder is a smokin' hot cowboy and I'm a sucker for those! He's asked Lara out on many occasions and she's always declined. This stubborn cowboy does not give up and contrives a plan to pin this hardheaded veterinarian down. Lara tries to resist him but umm...cowboy! He's got that Texan swagger and drawl that most women throw their panties at. Lara loses said panties pretty quickly. I can't blame her, Ryder is enough to make me slack jawed and babble like a fool.

Each of the novellas are essentially just a slice of the pie. The stories are over a short period of time and a snippet into the beginnings of a relationship. In the case of Kaleigh and Luke's story, it's a glimpse into rekindled love. If you're looking for well-written novellas that are highly entertaining and full of off the charts chemistry, this compilation is perfect. It's an easy read that'll have you smiling through the whole thing! I have quickly become a fan of Ms. Baxter and I look forward to reading her backlist.

AFTER WE FALL (TAKE THE FALL #3)

Title: After We Fall (Take the Fall #3)
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 26, 2016
Random House Loveswept
Review copy provided by publisher

Book Description:
A tough cop with an even tougher past, Hunter Sloan has never let anyone stop him from getting what he wants—and he wants Evangeline Ambrose bad. With her gentle curves and raw vulnerability, Hunter’s beautiful, mysterious new neighbor awakens his protective side. Determined to do right by a woman who’s gone through hell and back, Hunter could be the one to take away the pain—so long as his own secrets don’t sink their relationship before it begins.

Having escaped an abusive marriage, Evangeline simply wants to start over in the small, quiet town of Forrestville. She’s also avoiding all contact with the opposite sex, because she just can’t trust her instincts when it comes to men—not even with the sinfully sexy cop next door. So why can’t she stop thinking about him? Hunter has darkness in his soul, and yet no one ever made her feel so safe. For all her best laid plans, Evangeline didn’t count on choices this hard—or temptation this hot.

Liza’s Review:

I’m a huge fan of Marquita Valentine and was so excited to see there was a new story in her Take the Fall Series. We first met both Hunter and Evangeline in the second book in the series, and it was absolutely the worst time in Evangeline’s life. I would like to issue a trigger warning to all readers, After We Fall deals with the recovery from an abusive marriage, though Ms. Valentine handles the story in a completely respectful way.

I loved the growth of both Evangeline and Hunter in this book. Hunter grew up with an abusive father, so he could totally sympathize with Evangeline. I liked that he understood her and her situation enough to give her the space she needed to feel comfortable with him. I loved that he was willing to go at any pace Evangeline needed to be in her life.  Yes there was obviously an attraction even in the beginning between them, but I completely understood Evangeline being so hesitant to start something with another man.

I loved Evangeline started making friends again after she moved to Forrestville. Yes she had Hunter as a friend, but she needs girlfriends and I love that her neighbor Saylor becomes a true friend to Evangeline when she needs one the most. I really think having Saylor as a friend actually helped Evangeline be more open to other friendships and relationships.

I loved the slow build to Hunter and Evangeline going from friends to lovers. My only issue was the fact that Hunter wasn’t honest with Evangeline in the beginning about the cage fighting.  I understood his reasoning, but as she hadn’t had choices in the past, I didn’t like he didn’t give her a choice in the beginning. I did love how protective Hunter was, but felt like in this instance, he was a bit overprotective.

I hated that Evangeline’s ex got back in touch with her. I really wanted to kick him in the junk for all he had done to her in the past and the fact that he tried to control her again after she had finally started over. However, I have to say I loved she was no longer the doormat he made her in the past and she was strong enough to actually stand up and take control of her life this time. I know it was partially the fact that Hunter has shown her what real love looked like and she had started to become the woman she was before her ex that helped her find the inner strength she needed.

After We Fall put me through the emotional wringer in the best possible way. I highly recommend this book and the entire series to everyone. I feel like it just gets better with each book. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

THE WEDDING PACT NEW RELEASE SPOTLIGHT

The Wedding Pact by Katee Robert

Date of Publication: April 26, 2016

Blurb

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about the O'Malleys-wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.
Carrigan O'Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she's ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.
Hallorans vs. O'Malleys-that's how it's always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family's empire instead of how silky Carrigan's skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he'll be if he can't get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

About Katee Robert

Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa's knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way-as it often does-and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she'd like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding romance. Because, really, who wouldn't want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time-when not lost in Far Reach worlds-playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

WEDDING PACT
James had thought he'd imagined the fear in Carrigan's voice when she called. If she was in actual trouble, she sure as hell wasn't going to call him—no matter how much he liked the idea of being the one to swoop in and save her from her problems. He liked the idea too much.
But then she walked into the quiet little pub where he was waiting and he realized he hadn't been wrong the first time. There were faint bruises beneath her eyes, like she'd been sleeping even less than he had, and she held herself like a woman who'd been beaten for the first time. He was on his feet before he made a conscious decision to move. "Who hurt you?"
"No one."
"Don't play that martyr bullshit with me, Carrigan. Who the fuck put that look on your face?" She'd gone through hell and back because of him and it hadn't put that haunted expression in her green eyes. He clenched his fists, trying and failing to get control of his temper. She wasn't his to protect. Hell, even if she was, he had a pretty shitty track record of keeping people in his care safe. There was no reason why she'd be any different.
Except that he wanted her to be different.
She brushed past him, drawing his attention to her clothing. "What the hell are you wearing?"
Carrigan spun and glared. "I don't need your shit right now."
"You called me, lovely, so my shit is exactly what you're going to get." She looked like an angel—one that had had its wings clipped. He wasn't sure what gave him that impression, but the long white dress was opposite of everything he'd found the woman to be in the short time they'd known each other. She was wild and impulsive and free. She wasn't…this virginal almost-bride. He didn't like the change. He didn't like it one bit. "Sit your ass down. I'll get us drinks, and then you're telling me what the fuck is going on."
"Don't hold your breath on that."
He wouldn't have to. She might be prickly as all get out, but she wanted to talk. She wouldn't have called him otherwise. The bartender met him halfway, a nervous little mouse of a guy. James made an effort to speak softly because the man looked half a second from pissing himself at the idea of a Halloran in his bar. "Whiskey for me. Dirty martini for the lady."
He made his way back to where Carrigan had picked a booth. Ignoring the empty side, he slid in next to her.
The bartender appeared with their drinks, and James waited for him to scurry away before he spoke again. "Talk to me. I can't help you if I don't know what's wrong."
"No one can help me."
The raw pain in her voice made him want to comfort her, but that was one skill James had never learned. Maybe if his mother had lived…But there was no room in this world for "what if" and "maybe." So he did the one thing that he knew how to do. The single thing guaranteed to distract her.
He kissed her.
Carrigan went rigid for half a second, but he waited, his lips on hers, and let her choose. That hesitation was all it took for her to melt, turning to fire in his arms. He wanted to haul her against him, to let this feeling consume him until none of the bullshit mattered anymore. Right now, in this moment, there was only her. They could be the last two people in the world for all he gave a fuck. Hell, part of him hoped they were. As her tongue stroked his, a small, treacherous thought wormed into his brain and took root.
With this woman by my side, I'd be content to let the rest of the world burn.

Gloria nodded at Evan, and he and Brice made their way through the crowd—which hadn't thinned even a little despite the band leaving the stage—and walked in the direction of the bar. Gloria figured they'd get back about the time the band took the stage again, which left her with Asher in the interim.
"I didn't realize you were invited," she said over the melee.
"I see that." The corners of his mouth turned down.
"Why did he invite you?" she asked, curious.
"He wants me," Asher said, a bored expression on his face.
"No. He wants me." She pressed her fingers into her chest.
Asher leaned closer to speak to her and it took everything in her not to back away a step. Him close had a way of messing with her equilibrium...even more than the whiskey.
"I meant he wants to sign the band, Sarge. He's probably buttering you up to get to me."
"What?" she asked, slightly offended. "How egotistical are you?"
"I'm not being egotistical," he said. "That's a fact. And you're welcome."
Oh, he was too much. "I'm welcome?"
"Yeah. Now that I'm here, you won't have to touch him. He won't get within three feet of you." Stubble lined his jaw, fire burned in his eyes, and he stood close enough that his body heat blanketed her. "Promise."
"Listen, Asher"—she cleared her throat and tore her eyes away from his biceps, which were absolutely delicious and testing the limits of his T-shirt in the most distracting way possible—"I don't know what you think you're doing—"
"No, you listen." He palmed her hip much like Brice had earlier, but unlike Brice, when Asher touched her, her nipples perked up and every inch of her grew warm. Asher's nearness, one hand gripping her firmly as he looked down at her with dark hunger in his eyes, was so hot she couldn't think.
The crowd milling around them were having loud, drunken conversations, so he lowered his face to her ear to speak.
"I'm coming for you, Sarge." His hand moved from her hip to her lower back, his fingers splaying wide and slipping beneath the material of her shirt. "Bet you've never had anyone come for you, have you?" His nose moved along her ear, warm breath tickling her skin. "Bet you were a rebellious teen with a nose ring and a bad attitude and all you wanted was to feel good."
No nose ring, but the rest was scarily accurate.
"Well, guess what, honey?" he continued, his fingertips sizzling on her bare skin. "I'm going to make you feel good. I'm the only one who can."
He pulled his face away and she had to will her mouth to close. Her teeth clacked together as her brain scrambled to figure out what part she should argue with first. Wrenching a fist around his T-shirt, she tugged him close. A small smile played on his mouth, and his hand went higher beneath her shirt. He was anticipating a kiss, but she wasn't going to kiss him.
"Listen up, you arrogant bastard." Anger vibrated through her arms and a charge shot from her toes to the crown of her head. "You don't get to claim me. I'm not your property. I can do whatever I want." Because she wanted to wipe that stupid smirk off his face, she added, "And I can do whomever I want."
His lips flinched, but he didn't back away, stepping even closer and touching the tip of her nose with his. Her vision was now swimming in dark hair, dark eyes, and the sexiest smirk she'd ever seen.
It's not sexy. It's stupid, remember?
But it wasn't. And the rest of her knew it. Her nipples tightened, her body tingled, and the hand she'd wrapped around his shirt began to sweat . . .
