Never say never…Romance isn't an option for Holly Greenwood. With her wedding planner career on the line she needs to stay focused, and that means pleasing her demanding boss, not getting distracted by her mind-alteringly hot neighbor…

Ex-Marine Kevin Vandemeer craves normalcy. Instead, he has a broken-down old house in need of a match and some gasoline, a meddling family, and the uncanny ability to attract the world's craziest women. At least that last one he can fix: he and his buddies have made a pact to swear off women, and this includes his sweetly sexy new neighbor.

After one hot night that looks a whole lot like a disaster in the light of day, Kevin and Holly are about to learn that true love doesn't play by the rules…

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese, which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty (in her own mind) Facebook comments and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn't lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe.

Excerpt:

Kevin wasn’t sure why he was surprised Holly was here. She was a wedding planner, and from what he’d seen so far, she was a damn good one.
He’d been on his way out of the room, needing a breather from the noise and the chaos of the reception when he’d seen her at the table. He hadn’t planned on asking her to dance—hell, he hated to dance—but he’d been desperate for a reason to talk to her.
When he sat back down at the table, Tyler wore a smirk. “Crashed and burned, huh? I thought you were going to the bathroom to take a piss.”
“I was. I just happened to run into a friend.”
“Run into a friend, my ass. I thought we’d sworn off women. I’ve held up my end of the bachelor brotherhood. And let me add that I had no idea my balls could turn this blue.”
“She’s a friend,” Kevin said, trying not to sound irritated and feed any more fuel to the fire.
“She’s his neighbor,” Matt said, taking a sip of his beer, and giving Kevin a pointed look. “They’re friends.”
Tyler burst out laughing. “You got friend-zoned?”
“No,” Kevin said slowly, picking up his drink, surprised Matt hadn’t told Tyler about the situation he’d stumbled upon. “I was the one who said I wanted to be friends.”
“Why?” Tyler asked, watching Holly with a little more interest than Kevin liked. “She’s hot. Do you know if she’s seeing anyone?”
“No.” Kevin’s irritation grew.
Tyler stood and adjusted his tie, a smirk lighting up his eyes. “Screw the brotherhood. I think I’ll go over and introduce myself.”
Kevin was up in a flash. “I don’t think so.”
“Why not?” he looked surprised. “She looks like she’d be worth a short break from my hiatus from women.”
Kevin stepped in front of his path, his jaw set. “Because you’re a prick who will use her and toss her aside and she deserves a helluva lot better than that.”
Matt was up in an instant, grabbing Kevin’s arm. “Why don’t we get some air?”
“You like her,” Tyler said, slack jawed.
“Of course he likes her,” Matt said. “For someone so smart, sometimes you’re an idiot.”
“In my defense,” Tyler said. “He said they were friends.”
“Okay,” Matt said slowly. “When was the last time you convinced a woman to be just a friend?”
“Never.”
“I rest my case, counselor.”
Tyler sat back down, and Matt tugged on Kevin’s sleeve to get him to join them.
“I can’t believe you didn’t last even a single week,” Tyler said.
“He didn’t last a single day,” Matt told him. “He slept with her the night after our agreement to remain single.”
Tyler burst out laughing. “For a tough-ass former Marine, I expected you to be the last holdout, man. At least a week or two.”

Nikki’s Review:

This series is so much fun! The Crane brothers are delectable and so infuriating all at the same time. I was beyond excited to dig into Tag's book.

Tag Crane is the ultimate playboy. He never lets emotions cloud his rendezvous' with the women he spends time with. He enjoys their company, lets them down easy and somehow still remains completely lovable.

Rachel Foster is my favourite kind of heroine. She's smart and spunky with enough vulnerability that makes her relatable. She's been let down and betrayed by someone that she trusted and thought she loved. But she's determined to put the pieces back together and forge a new path...whatever that may be.

I got such a kick out of these two! The witty and sarcastic banter had me giggling through much of the book. Tag is ridiculously cocky and he's aware of his affect on Rachel...and most women. At times I was all like..."did he just say that?" And I totally wanted to smack him a time or two! But damn...I adored him at the same time! He's a good guy. I loved the internal struggle; I loved his confusion at how this spitfire of a woman could make him want things that he's never considered before. Oh the power of lust and then love.

I enjoyed watching Rachel go through an evolution of sorts. At the beginning she's stand offish and not willing to jump. But as her character developed, her bravery started to shine through. She has these breath taking moments of clarity that were so beautiful. I felt like fist pumping when everything just became clear to her!

The chemistry between Tag and Rachel was piping hot! Jessica Lemmon is brilliant at writing sexual tension! Every time they'd get close to smokin' hot monkey sex, Ms. Lemmon would yank them back! It was frustrating but completely necessary. It just made the moment when they finally bumped uglies all the more explosive! And Jesus...what a relief it was when it finally happened! Sigh...it was yummy!

There's lots of push and pull and tons of conflict that has to be plowed over in this book. But what worthwhile journey doesn't? The slow build of their relationship was exactly what the characters needed. It was perfect.

You get a few glimpses of the third Crane brother, Eli in this book. There's a whole lot of emotion and a few tears surrounding his presence in this story. I can hardly wait to get my pudgy little digits on his book! This series is just another example of the wonderful writing that Ms. Lemmon is capable of and known for. The characters are "people" that you come to care about. If a book can make me think about the characters lives long after I've finished reading it, then in my opinion, it's bloody brilliant!

BAREFOOT AT MIDNIGHT (BAREFOOT BAY TIMELESS #3)

Lawson Monroe is a chef without a restaurant...until his friend and mentor makes a deathbed promise to leave Law the only dive bar on Mimosa Key. Law has big plans for the Toasted Pelican until he walks directly into the luscious body and gorgeous face of Libby Chesterfield and her outrageous claim that the bar and restaurant should come to her.

When Libby learned that the man who once owned the crappiest watering hole on the island was actually her biological father, she decided the least he owed her was his unclaimed business. The old man wasn't there for her when she and her brother were growing up in Barefoot Bay, but his legacy can help her build a new future when she transforms the property into Balance, a yoga studio. The only obstacle? Her father apparently named former bad boy and current sexy silver fox Law Monroe his heir.

Law never thought he'd want anything more than the chance to make a living cooking his food for the people of Barefoot Bay...but Libby arouses an irresistible hunger in him. Battling an attraction that sizzles hotter than one of Law's cast-iron skillets and uncovering long-buried secrets with more twists than one of Libby's yoga poses, they'll have to find a way to both get what they want...especially if what they really want is each other.

Liza’s review:

I pretty much fell in love with Lawson "Lawless" Monroe when we met him in Barefoot at Sunset. There is just something about him that made me want to give him a hug and fix all his problems. I knew he needed a super strong woman to be his equal, and Libby Chesterfield more than meets those requirements.

Law and Libby has some pretty amazing chemistry that goes back all the way to high school. I absolutely love the banter between them, which was basically foreplay that had gone on for years...recently months. I loved that both Law and Libby are totally flawed characters, yet totally determined how they each will turn their lives around. However, they both want the Toasted Pelican to make their individual dreams come true, Libby for a yoga studio and Law for a gastropub. I loved they both wanted to have a business that took care of others, even though they had different visions of how it needed to be done.

The chemistry had been there between Libby and Law from the first time we saw them together at their class reunion meeting, and the more time they spent together, the harder it was for either of them to keep their hands to themselves. They had some sizzling hot love scenes and their chemistry was off the charts hot. However, they had both been hurt in the past and trust seemed to be harder for them both to find, especially Libby. Both Libby and Law have family issues from the past, and I really think they got each other even more because of those issues.

I've absolutely loved each of the books in the new Barefoot Bay Timeless series, but have to say Barefoot at Midnight was my absolute favorite so far. It made me laugh out loud at time and cry at others. Any book that pulls multiple emotions from me is always a winner in my book. I highly recommend Barefoot at Midnight to all readers who love contemporary romances, and especially those who love a more mature hero and heroine.
