Nikki’s Review:

I have followed this series from the beginning. Shayla Black took my breath away from the first page of Wicked Ties (book #1 in the series) and has left me starry eyed ever since.

I'm just going to come out and say it...I had a wee bit of a struggle getting into this one. Which was shocking, because in all the previous novels, I devoured them in one sitting. It wasn't that it was bad or anything like that, it was just slow moving. But you know, I could totally get over that. It's not that big of a deal. What I can't get over is when the hero, Heath, picks up a random woman at a bar, has sex with her in said bar, and then later that very same night, has sex with the heroine! Gross! And the kicker, the heroine, Jolie, knows that he hooked up at the bar because she saw him! *shudders* At least Heath was enough of a gentleman to shower first *insert sarcasm here*.

Ok, so I had to make a conscious decision to just move on from that, because in all honesty, I wanted to put the book down. But I couldn't put it down because it's Shayla Black for crying out loud! And she is pretty damn awesome!

I liked, Jolie from the get go! She's strong, independent, and wickedly sassy. She's jaded and shies away from emotional entanglements. But there's something about Heath that gets to her. She wants him and that just pisses her off.

Heath has never gotten over a tragedy that rocked his soul to its core. He merely moves through life, not really living, but drowning himself in his work and faceless women. Jolie is the first woman in a long time that has made him crave more.

I really enjoyed watching Heath work for Jolie's heart. She was an enigma to him. Women normally throw themselves at him, so this was new territory. It was entertaining to say the least!

Once I got passed the bickering between them, the chemistry hit me full force. There was no denying that the bed aerobics was going to be sweaty and delicious! Shayla Black has never let me down in the sexy times department in her books. Her heroes are always so wonderfully filthy. Heath was certainly no exception!

Like all the other books in this series, there is a mystery/suspense back story. It keeps things moving quickly (after the initial slowness at the beginning ) and allowed me to put my super sleuthing to the test, which apparently I'm awful at! I love a good romantic suspense novel as long as it doesn't take over from the love story. The romance is first and foremost for me. It was a good balance. I didn't feel pulled out of Jolie and Heath's journey as a couple.

The writing is incredibly solid in this book. The attention paid to detail is obvious and adds a lot to the overall plot. I often wonder sometimes how Shayla keeps her books from all sounding the same. It would be easy to follow a recipe and just change the characters names, but she doesn't do that. Each book is a different journey with unique characters that draw me in.

So, after a bit of a bumpy start, I was able to fully immerse myself in Shayla's Wicked Lovers world. I'm glad I didn't let the icky bar scene sour me, because I truly loved getting to know Jolie and Heath, and visit with some of the characters from previous books. I'm really looking forward to the next book! Shayla set up the epilogue so it left me wanting the next story right now. But that's how it works with this author...I always want more! I want to stay in her fictional world and go another journey.

Nikki’s Review:

It feels like another life when I opened up book #1 in this series, Wicked Ties. I knew within a few minutes that I'd found an author who could knock me off of my feet and take my breath away. Shayla Black has been an auto-buy for me ever since. Each book sucks me in and holds tight from start to finish. Falling in Deeper is the next instalment to this seductively wicked series, and it didn't disappoint.

Lily Taylor ran away from her old life. She changed her name and hoped that the demons of her past wouldn't catch up to her. Lily witnessed a terrible tragedy when she's just a young teen. She's lived a sad life and had to endure things that would break most adults, but she isn't quite defeated.

Stone Sutter has made his share of mistakes in life. Lily could be his ticket to freedom, his chance at redemption. He's a good man and exactly what, Lily needs.

I love that Stone is sort of an anti-hero. He's done things that put him on the other side of the law, but the core of who he is a protector. He wants to protect, Lily from someone in her past who wants to silence her and send her and the secrets she's holding in, to the grave. I went into this book with a bit of trepidation. I knew, Stone was an ex-con, and I was anxious about him not being redeemable. I was worried that he couldn't be the hero that, Lily needed. I was wrong. He was exactly who she needed to regain her strength and confidence as a woman. He was exactly what she needed to believe in herself. He was the perfect man to love her.

The sexual tension in this book is off the wall. It's a slow simmering burn that singes the pages. When you get to the moment when these two finally come together, it's incredible. It's beautiful and it made my heart thump. In true, Shayla Black fashion, the love scenes were hot, sweaty, and combustible. But there was so much tenderness and raw emotion. Lily needed that. Her heart needed to feel the emotions involved. It couldn't just be sex for her. Stone was with her all way. He was able to master her body and her heart. It was perfect.

One of the things that I love the most about this series is seeing all of my favourite heroes from past books! I love me some, Jack Cole and Hunter and Logan Edgington page time! These guys are all friends but they're brothers too. Not necessarily by blood, but sometimes by choice. They have each other's backs...always!

There's always a suspense theme with the Wicked Lovers series. But there's a fantastic balance that doesn't detract from the romance aspect. It enhances the romance actually. It draws the characters closer together. It tests their loyalty and love. If you can survive the crap thrown at these characters, then your love is forever. Most relationships would crack under the circumstances of this book, but not, Stone and Lily.

You could read this book as a stand alone, though you get the beginning foundation of, Stone and Lily's story in book #10. My recommendation to you is to start with book #1, Wicked Ties. It may seem daunting with 11 books in the series, but it's so worth it. If you're looking for a series that will make you sweat in your socks, fall in love with fictional book boyfriends, and enough suspense to make your race heart, then read these books! Falling in Deeper was an incredible addition to this beautifully written series!
