Sweet baby Jesus, I love me some hot cowboy romance novels! I was excited to be given an ARC of this book. Stacey Kennedy never disappoints...and did I mention the hot cowboy part?

Shep is all kinds of yumminess! He's a cowboy through and through. From the moment Emma moved to River Rock Colorado, he's wanted her. 

I fell hard for Shep. He's got that cowboy swagger that I adore, but he's not cocky. He's just a really nice guy with a filthy mouth that would make most women drop their panties!

The chemistry is off the wall with these two. Seriously, the damn pages sizzled every time they hit the sheets...or the wall. 

I loved how vulnerable Emma was. She didn't make it a secret that part of her heart still cared deeply for her ex. I liked how conflicted she felt. It made the whole situation feel more realistic. 

Shep works hard at earning her trust while trying to keep his families business open. He's being pulled in many directions, but his sense of loyalty was very admirable. I can't say it enough, I really loved this hero! 

The story was fast paced, and made me want to ignore everyone around me. I found myself laughing at the witty banter between Shep and his brothers, Chase and Nash.

Speaking of Chase and Nash...there's going to be more sexy cowboy books from this amazing author! I seriously can't wait for Nash to be brought to his knees. Now there's a man who is crazy cocky!

This book is a fantastic start to what promises to be a decadently delicious series!

I requested this book not realizing that it was part of a series. I quickly discovered that the hero and heroine featured in this book, Dmitri and Presley, are the couple from book 1. So what's an OCD reader such as myself to do? I start with book 1! Firstly, let me just say that I really liked the first novel. And definitely recommend starting there to get a good feel for Dmitri and Presley. It made reading, Mine, so much easier.

This book is a quick read. It was a glance at a moment in time with Dmitri and Presley, 2 years after their relationship began. They are so crazy in love with each other. She is a devoted submissive to her alpha Dom. You get a real sense of the commitment they have to one another and the joy they get from Club Sin. When their sanctuary is threatened though, things turn a little ass over tea kettle. 

I was frustrated with Dmitri and his behaviour. I understand his need to protect his club and the members who are also his friends. But his handling of Presley was disappointing. Apparently, he's trying to protect her, and save her from feeling guilty. I call bullshit. Dmitri treats her like a wilting flower, a child even. I didn't like that aspect. It was rather condescending and I was sad to see two characters that I really liked, on a downward spiral. The whole " I'm acting like a jerk to shelter Presley" left a bad taste in my mouth. And her rather quick acceptance of his apology after he settles everything with the club, made me want to shake her!

The whole book was a hard pill to swallow after reading the brilliant story that brought them together. I was left with a " meh " feeling. I liked the end when Dmitri surprises his love with something to blow her mind. But that's all I really liked. I kinda wish that I didn't read this one. That I just held onto my warm and fuzzies from book 1.

Magic & Mayhem Book 2

I was lucky enough to receive a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I really enjoy Stacey Kennedy's books and was excited to try a new-to-me series. Witches Be Burned is the 2nd book in the Magic and Mayhem series, yet I didn't feel lost at all starting with this book. I felt like Ms. Kennedy did a great job of catching up her readers on what all had happened in the first book.

I enjoyed Witches Be Burned and absolutely loved many of the characters, Kyden especially. I liked Nexi, but honestly felt like she was a bit too whiny at times and sadly this happened way too often during Witches Be Burned. I loved the chemistry between Kyden and Nexi and they totally work as a couple for me, even when Kyden is acting super over protective of Nexi. It was almost endearing to see this huge warrior have the ability to be tender with Nexi when needed. I did have issues that Kyden didn't seem to respect the power Nexi had as both a witch and a guardian.

I loved all the guardians, witches and vampires coming together for the battle. I will say felt completely chaotic as I tried to keep up with all the main players in the battle. As I'm still learning about the various worlds within the series, I will attribute my confusion to that rather than any fault of the author. I find myself having a hard time distinguishing this book as either a paranormal romance or an urban fantasy book. There were elements of both within the story, and the multiple point-of-views for the story read a bit more like an urban fantasy story for me. I did feel that by the end of the book, Kyden saw Nexi as not only his lover, but as a capable warrior who can handle herself in difficult situations. I felt like Kyden and Nexi's characters both matured a bit and hope they continue to grow and progress in the next book in the series.

Witches Be Burned was really did read well as a stand-alone story. However, as I'm a fan of reading all the books in a series, I've already added book 1 to my kindle and my ever-growing To Be Read list. I look forward to reading the 3rd book in this series to see where Ms. Kennedy takes the characters in the future.
