Second Chance at Passion

Audrey Rodriguez has escaped her family's life styles of the rich and famous by moving to the small town of Holiday, Vermont. She settles into her new role as bookstore owner, never expecting to run into her Vegas hook-up.

Ethan Cartwright has been ordered to take a vacation by his mom, no less. The only people he can imagine spending down time with is his family in Holiday. He discovers that woman he'd had the best sex of his life was living in this storybook town.

When Ethan's family needs help taking down a gold-digging-sperm-stealing- ? Ethan and Audrey go undercover giving them more a second chance at passion.

Release Date: February 20, 2014 Desert Breeze Publishing

I was lucky enough to get a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I'm a really big fan of Heather Lire and love the town she has created in Holiday, Vermont. I've wanted Ethan's story from the moment I first met him. I know it would take a really strong woman to match Ethan, and think Audrey was his perfect match.

I thought the chemistry between Audrey and Ethan was pretty incredible from the very first time they met in the sports bar. I absolutely cracked up that Ethan ate the sandwich with the hottest pepper on earth, while picking Audrey up in the bar. I was a little disappointed that he let her leave at the end of their time in Vegas without trying to get her number, but knew he could find her if he really tried.

Audrey is such a strong woman, even with her hang ups of being in public with her famous family. I swear my favorite part of the book was when she saw Ryan kiss Morgan and she started cussing him out for being a cheater. I loved that she, Morgan and Brynn found friendship so quickly too. I think Ms. Lire showcased how the Sanderson and Cartwright families will help in any way possible to give couples the chance to reconnect.

Audrey and Ethan worked as a couple for me from the beginning. I loved the passion between them, but the tenderness and support they showed for one another just made me even more sure of their relationship. Ethan had much guilt to work through from his past, and I honestly only believe he was able to do so because of the love he gave and received from Audrey.

I honestly feel like the Holiday, Vermont series just gets better with each book. Ms. Lire hooked me with Ryan and Morgan's book, and I can't wait for the next installment, which is currently set for release in August.

Excerpt from Once in a Lifetime:

Aubrey got a look at the man she’d inadvertently drenched and stopped breathing. Oh, God. Had she really thought her day couldn’t get any worse? Why would she tempt fate by even thinking that? Because of course things had gotten worse. They always did.

Ben McDaniel slowly stood up from his barstool, dripping vodka from his hair, eyelashes, nose… He was six feet plus of hard muscles and brute strength on a body that didn’t carry a single extra ounce of fat on him. For the past five years, he’d been in and out of a variety of Third World countries designing and building water systems with the Army Corp of Engineers. His last venture had been for the Department of Defense in Iraq, which Aubrey only knew because Lucky Harbor’s Facebook page was good as gospel.

He swiped his face with his arm, deceptively chill and laid-back.

In truth, he was about as badass as they came.

Aubrey should know, she’d seen him in action. But she managed to meet his gaze. Cool, casual even. One had to be with Ben, the man could spot a weakness a mile away. “I’m sorry,” she said.

“Are you?”

She felt herself flush. He’d always seemed to see right through her. And she was pretty sure he’d never cared for her. He had good reason for that, she reminded herself. He just didn’t know the half of it. “Yes, I am sorry,” she said. Her heart was pounding so loudly she was surprised she could hear herself speak. “Are you okay?”

He ran his fingers through a sexy disorder of sun-streaked brown hair. His eyes were the same color, light milk chocolate marbled with gold caramel. It was hard to make such a warm-colored gaze seem hard, but Ben managed it with no effort at all. “Need to work on your aim,” he said.

Can this unlikely couple defy the odds and win over the little town of Lucky Harbor?

Lucky Harbor #9 Grand Central Publishing February 18, 2014

I was lucky enough to get a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I'm a huge fan of Jill Shalvis and love her Lucky Harbor series so much.

I've really liked Aubrey since she made friends with Ali and Leah. I knew there was more to her that what we had seen, and was excited to get to know more about her.  Aubrey has decided early in this book to try and right as many wrongs as possible from her past. She really was a bit of a mean-girl growing up, and now wants to make amends.

Ben is one of my favorite heroes ever from Jill Shalvis. I loved him so much and really loved how he did anything in his power to spend time with Aubrey. Ben and Aubrey had amazing chemistry from the moment they started spending time together. Even as all of Ben's friends and family are telling him to stay away from Aubrey, Ben can't seem to stay away from her. Ben also knows he is on Aubrey's list of people to make amends with, even as she tells him he isn't. The more time Ben and Aubrey spent together, the more I wanted them to make it as a couple. The sexual tension was off the charts between them and it grew stronger as the book progressed.

I only had one problem with Ben really. He seemed to flip-flop a bit too much with his feelings for Aubrey. He could be so sweet one moment and distant the next. I did love how sweet he was  with the twin little girls he discovered were in foster care in Lucky Harbor. He was so protective of them and the reader saw the softer side of Ben.

I especially loved Lucille's role in this book. Her humor and love for everyone in Lucky Harbor always adds so much to each story. Lucille always seems to be the voice of reason to the couples in Lucky Harbor. She also cracks me up in every single book. I laughed so hard at Lucille getting put into Facebook jail for posting pictures of sexy men.

The Lucky Harbor series is one of my favorites from Jill Shalvis. I'm super excited to find out we will get 3 more books in the Lucky Harbor series in the future.
